Abstract

School-age children are at high risk of anaemia, because of their low haemoglobin levels due to lack of iron intake. Anaemia causes pain and death, inhibits brain development, motor, mental, intelligence and physical growth, decreased physical abilities, pale faces which will reduce enthusiasm and learning achievement of school children. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving lemuru fish sausage made from durian seeds on protein intake and haemoglobin levels in children with anaemia. This type of research is a quasi-experimental, namely the pre-test design and post-test experiment. Lemuru fish sausage made from durian seeds was given every day for 30 days to 30 school-age children in SD Negeri Jati Sari Lubuk pakam City, Deli Serdang Residence. Measurement of Haemoglobin and food consumption (energy, protein, vitamin C and iron) was carried out before and after the intervention. The results showed that most of the intake of energy, vitamin C and iron in school children was in the <100% category. The mean Haemoglobin before the intervention was 10.9 g / dl; after the intervention, the mean Haemoglobin was 12.1 g / dl. The mean increase in hemoglobin 1.2 g / dl was statistically significant (p-value = 0.000). It has been recommended to increase the time to intervene and use iron status indicators in other studies.

Abstract

Elementary school children are one of the nutritionally vulnerable groups. This is because children are in a period of growth and development of bones, teeth, muscles and blood, so they need macronutrients such as energy, protein, fat and other nutrients. Noodles are a food that is very popular with the public, including toddlers and children. Its practical nature, relatively cheap price and easy way of serving it make this noodle product accessible to various levels of society. This study aims to determine the effect of adding durian seed flour to wet noodles as a snack for school children. This type of research is experimental, with a randomized experimental design used is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 (three) treatments and 2 (two) repetitions. Data was collected by means of organoleptic tests, namely the color, texture, taste and aroma of durian seed wet noodles by 20 panelists. The results of the study were the color of wet noodles from durian seed flour was yellowish in color, chewy texture, taste was savory, aroma was fragrant. Overall, the wet noodles from durian seed flour that were most preferred by panelists were those who received treatment A with a ratio of wheat flour: seed flour. durian (90% : 10%). The conclusion is that the most preferred consumer acceptance of wet noodles is treatment A with 90% wheat flour and 10% durian seed flour.

Breastmilk provision to babies from birth to age 6 months (exclusive breast milk) is the best food for babies. Considering the importance of exclusive breastfeeding itself is not balanced with the correct breastfeeding, UNICEF said that the mother's ignorance of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, the right way to breastfeed babies, as well as marketing launched aggressively by formula milk, it is an inhibiting factor for the formation of parental awareness in providing parents exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of maternal knowledge and behavior about exclusive breastfeeding in infants of 0-6 months in the working area of ??the tanjung uban community health care of Bintan Utara in Riau islands. This research was conducted in the working area of ??Tanjung Uban community health center, Bintan Utara Islands, Riau Islands, when the data was collected in February 2020. The sample was selected with the criteria of a village close to the Tanjung Uban community health center in Bintan Utara Islands, Riau Islands with a total sample of 45 infants aged 0-6 months. The results of the study illustrate the level of knowledge of respondents in either category as many as 9 people (20%) enough categories of 15 people (33.4%) while 21 people (46.5%) in less category. The description of the level of behavior of respondents in the good category of 7 people (15.6%) enough categories of 14 people (31.1%) while 7 people (53.3%) in the less category. Samples who did not get exclusive breastfeeding were 36 people (80%) while those who received exclusive breastfeeding were only 9 people (20%).

Abstract

Anemia poses a significant risk for women of reproductive age and pregnant women, impacting both their health and the quality of future generations. This condition can adversely affect the growth and development of the fetus, leading to potential complications during pregnancy and childbirth. In severe cases, it may even result in maternal and newborn mortality. The purpose of this community service activity was to enhance the knowledge of women of reproductive age and pregnant women through nutritional counseling and demonstrations on making "sukahitu" cookies, which serve as an alternative for increasing blood hemoglobin levels. “Sukahitu” cookies, made from katuk (Sauropus androgynus) leaf flour and mung bean flour, were provided daily for 30 days to 35 women of reproductive age and pregnant women in Belawan II Village, Medan Belawan District. Knowledge regarding intake, anemia, and hemoglobin was measured before (pretest) and after the intervention (posttest). The results of the activity indicate that the average pretest score is 77.1%, and the posttest score is 91.4%. There is an average increase of 14.28% in knowledge about anemia. It is recommended to regularly conduct nutrition and anemia counseling for women of reproductive age and pregnant women, along with providing hemoglobin-rich foods like “sukahitu” cookies to effectively prevent anemia.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a serious public health challenge that affects child growth and development. Objectives: This study evaluated the impact of nutrient-dense mitekor and maternal nutrition education on the nutritional status of stunted school-aged children in Deli Serdang, Indonesia. Methods: Using a quasi-experimental design, 30 children aged 6-8 years received 100 g of mitekor daily for 30 days, while their mothers participated in weekly education sessions. Nutritional intake, anthropometric measurements, and maternal knowledge were assessed before and after the intervention. Results: The results showed significant increases in children's intake of protein (+6.86 g), carbohydrate (+9.6 g), calcium (+319.27 mg), and zinc (+0.87 mg). The proportion of children with normal height-for-age scores increased from 6.7% to 36.7%, indicating a positive impact on growth. Maternal knowledge scores also improved significantly, indicating the effectiveness of the educational intervention. Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of integrating local food-based solutions with caregiver empowerment in addressing the problem of stunting. The findings suggest that such interventions are feasible and impactful in resource-limited settings. Future research should explore long-term outcomes and the potential to expand this intervention to a wider population.
