Abstract

Background: Stunting is a serious problem in fetuses and children up to the age of two, as it can increase infant mortality rates, morbidity, developmental disorders, and lead to low adult productivity. Stunting occurs due to a lack of knowledge about stunting prevention, starting from the preconception period. Therefore, counseling and education for prospective newlyweds are essential components in improving knowledge. This study aimed to determine the effect of educational e-booklet media on the knowledge of prospective newlyweds regarding stunting prevention at the Office of Religious Affairs in the Bululawang District. Methods: The research design used in this study was pre-experimental with a One Group Pre-Test Post-Test approach, involving 30 prospective newlyweds who met the inclusion criteria and were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected by administering research questionnaires before and after providing educational media. Results: Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed that there was an effect of educational e-booklet media on the improvement of knowledge about stunting prevention among prospective newlyweds (p-value less than 0,05). Therefore, health education on stunting prevention needs to be provided for prospective newlyweds.

Abstract

The use of Moringa oleifera as an anti-oxidant should be investigated as an alternative treatment of follicular refinement in Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with insulin resistance. We aimed to prove the effect of Moringa oleifera leaf extract in various dosages to decrease the thecacell thickness of PCOS female rat with insulin resistance. This study was a laboratory experimental research. Three month old Rattus norvegicusstrain Wistar rat weighing 100-130 g were divided into 5 groups (n= 8). PCOS model obtained by giving injection of testosterone propionate for28 days, followed by metformin therapy and Moringa oleifera leaf extract at 250 and 500 mg/kg BW for 14 days. The examination of ovariumhistology showed that leaf extract Moringa oleifera 500 mg/kg BW (0.9310.457) significantly decreased the thickness of theca cells (P0.05)compared to the PCOS control group. The conclusion was Moringa oleifera leaf extract as an anti-oxidant proven to decrease the thickness oftheca cell of the female rat model of PCOS.

Abstract

Candida species, for women are the foremost common cause of parasitic contaminations. Candida species affect contamination in 75% of women and at slightest 6-9% of women involvement repetitive vulvovaginal candidiasis. Candida albicans (CA) accounts for 85-95% of yeast strains separated from the vagina. The treatment which has been administered for candida infections is antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole and fluconazole. When applied topically, synthetic antifungal drugs cause allergic reactions, resistance, and a burning sensation. It is necessary to conduct research on plant-based herbal medicine as an alternative treatment. Kemangi, also recognized as Ocimum Basilicum (OB), is a plant native to Indonesia which has medicinal properties. The objective of this study is to examine how effective OB methanol extract is against CA colonies. The study was performed at Brawijaya University's Microbiology Laboratory in Malang. The experimental laboratories with Posttest Only Control Group Design were employed in this study, with four repetitions of OB concentrations of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% against CA colonies. One-way ANOVA was utilized as the hypothesis test, with a significance level of 0.05. The results demonstrated that OB extract with a concentration of 15% was able to inhibit the growth of CA colonies. In the OB extract with a concentration of 35%, no CA colony growth was revealed. One-way ANOVA test obtained p 0.000 <0.05. Conclusion OB owns adequacy in restraining the development of CA organism with negligible murdering rate at a concentration of 35%.  Research required to be performed to identify the antifungal potential of OB extract in vivo.
