Abstract

HIV/AIDS is one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the health sector, alongside efforts to combat Malaria and Tuberculosis (TB), with a focus on controlling the spread of new cases. One of the measures to control transmission is ensuring that people living with HIV (PLWHA) adhere to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment. Stigma refers to a negative attribute attached to an individual due to environmental influences. This stigma often leads to discrimination, which is defined as unjust treatment of individuals based on their actual or perceived HIV status or overall health condition. This study is a quantitative research using a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires distributed via Google Form. The sample consisted of all first-year students of the Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Catholic University od Santu Paulus Ruteng, totaling 129 participants. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with the inclusion criteria being: willingness to participate and being a first-year student preparing for clinical practice. A chi-square statistical test resulted in a p-value of 0.025, indicating a significant relationship between adolescent knowledge and stigma toward PLWHA. As future nurses, it is essential for nursing students to enhance their knowledge to avoid harboring negative stigma when providing care for PLWHA.

Abstract

Nutrition-sensitive factors, such as infections, are indirect contributors to inadequate nutrient absorption. This study aims to identify the nutrition-sensitive factors associated with stunted growth among under-five children attending a public health center due to infection-related problems. A cross-sectional design was used, involving 47 children who visited the public health center in July 2022. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, a microtoise, and the WHO growth chart. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-square test, while multivariate analysis employed binary logistic regression. The results showed that 35 children had normal growth, while 12 were stunted. The most common nursing diagnosis was ineffective airway clearance (36.2%). Among the nutrition-sensitive factors, household water supply was the most dominant factor associated with stunted growth (OR = 42.317; p = 0.038). Poor access to clean water, mediated by infection, can hinder the linear growth of children.

Abstract

Dietary regulation is one of the main pillars in the management of diabetes mellitus. Effective dietary management requires strong commitment and self-discipline from patients to achieve optimal outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and dietary compliance among patients with diabetes mellitus at Cancar Public Health Center, Manggarai Regency. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, using a total sampling technique involving 30 respondents. Data were analyzed using Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test. The findings revealed that among respondents with high self-efficacy, 13 were compliant with their diet and 2 were less compliant. Among those with moderate self-efficacy, 1 was compliant, 5 were less compliant, and 4 were non-compliant. Meanwhile, respondents with low self-efficacy showed no compliance or low compliance, with 5 individuals categorized as non-compliant. The statistical analysis using Kendall’s Tau-b test demonstrated a significant relationship between self-efficacy and dietary compliance (ρ-value = 0.000). These results suggest that improving self-efficacy in patients with diabetes mellitus is essential to enhance dietary adherence and prevent more severe health complications.
