Abstract

This study explains al-Ghazali’s argumentative criticism in Tahafut al-Falasifah. It aims to analyze the intentions of al-Ghazali’s argumentative refutation of other alleged rational thinkers considered by irfani epistemology as the cause of decline of Islam and to observe the method used by al-Ghazali in his argument. This study is a library research which is included in the qualitative research cluster. The result of study is that the intentions of al-Ghazali’s argumentative criticism are to discuss the twenty errors of Muslim philosophers, namely al-Farabi and Ibn Sina in matters of metaphysical philosophy. The method used by al-Ghazali is also the same as Aristotle’s criticism of Eudoxus, that is attacking Muslim philosophers in terms of the arguments they built, even labelling them as heretics and infidels/apostates. This method is known as argumentum ad hominem because it attacks Muslim philosophers when it comes to argumentation. It is built on the dialectical method of speech or in other terms known as jawab wa su’al which always recalls an imaginary trial.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, especially in border areas like Sambas Regency, where intervention efforts have seen limited success. This study investigates the biopolitical dimensions of stunting by highlighting the disconnect between national policies and local realities, particularly in community participation and behavioral change. Using a qualitative case study in Lela Village, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Results indicate that low paternal involvement, reliance on traditional medicine, poor health literacy, and smoking habits hinder prevention efforts. State narratives also tend to overburden mothers while neglecting shared responsibility. Biopolitical and gender based approaches to stunting remain underexplored in Indonesia. Stunting is understood here as a complex interaction of power and knowledge that influences public perspectives and government policy. The study calls for a shift from top-down technical fixes to inclusive strategies that promote gender equity, empower communities, and adapt to socio-cultural contexts. It contributes to the discourse on public health governance by advocating participatory, context-sensitive, and transformative solutions for sustainable stunting reduction.

Abstract

The phenomenon of non-Muslim Chinese women being elected as regional leaders in Indonesia is considered unusual, especially when elected amid a predominantly Muslim population and the strengthening of Islamist movements in national politics. This article, therefore, analyses the representation and capabilities of non-Muslim Chinese women as regional heads in Singkawang City, Indonesia, from 2017 to 2022. In the Indonesian context, we refer to this case as a “triple minority.” The research used a socio-legal approach involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion/verification stages. The findings of this study indicate that the representation and capabilities of non-Muslim Chinese women as regional heads in Singkawang City from 2017 to 2022 align with the principles of constitutional politics (siyasah dusturiyah) and Indonesian laws. Non-Muslim Chinese women elected as regional heads of Singkawang City, despite being in a Muslim-majority environment, have succeeded in making Singkawang City the top-ranked Tolerant City in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the transformation and digital adaptation of Jama‘ah Tabligh in the digital era, with a focus on the negotiation and reconfiguration of ritual communication in online spaces. The central issue addressed is the tension between the group’s traditional reliance on khuruj (missionary journeys) and face-to-face interactions, and the adoption of digital platforms that redefine authority and identity. This study employs a qualitative approach by analysing digital proselytizing content, observing practices on platforms such as YouTube, WhatsApp, and Instagram, conducting a critical review of relevant secondary literature, and carrying out in-depth interviews with selected members of Jama‘ah Tabligh. Indonesia is taken as the primary context of analysis while incorporating transnational dimensions to situate local practices within global networks. The findings indicate that digitalization has fostered more personal, visual, and participatory forms of religious expression, while simultaneously contributing to identity fragmentation and a redistribution of authority from seniority-based hierarchy to algorithmic visibility. Ritual communication, which was previously centered in markaz and physical khuruj, has expanded to include digital sermons, podcasts, and visual quotations, generating hybrid forms of piety that combine the values of Jama‘ah Tabligh with the logic of social media. This shift not only demonstrates resilience and adaptation but also raises epistemological challenges, including the risks of oversimplification, exclusion, and debates over authenticity. The article concludes that digitalization is not merely a means of disseminating proselytizing content but also reconstructs the structures of piety, authority, and collective identity in contemporary Islam in Indonesia. The implications extend to debates on digital religion and the sociology of transnational Islam, highlighting how non-political movements such as Jama‘ah Tabligh recalibrate their spiritual mission within the global network society.

Abstract

The focus of this paper is on Josef Van Ess's The Logical Structure of Islamic Theology. An important argument regarding the thought of kalam is that it fully involves the relationship of revelation, reason, and human experience. This writing aims to answer the question whether the discipline of kalam in its logical structure is derived from Greco-Roman or archetypes from the Islamic tradition? This writing includes a qualitative research cluster involving library research, then the ma'na-cum-maghza approach through the stages of data reduction, data exposure, and drawing conclusions or verification. The result of the conclusion is that Ess's opinion always changes and improves the statement regarding the nominalistic term kalam, although according to Ess it is not impossible that the science of kalam and its spectrum such as Islamic Law technically reflects Greco-Roman rhetoric and is preserved in Islamic Tradition.
