The results show that the Pemamanan tradition includes various traditional events with the same name, where the implementation process varies depending on the type of event. In the context of marriage, this tradition includes a series of rituals from Ngentat Ken Tebekhas to the Njagai event at night. This research also reveals the dynamics in the implementation of traditions, including debates about the number of gifts to nephews and the scale of events, both simple and large-scale.

Abstract

This article examines the process of the entry of Islam into Mahala Village, Tina District, Pakpak Bharat Regency, an area where the majority of the population still adheres to the school of faith and is located in the interior of North Sumatra. This historical search was carried out to fill the void of local historical literature regarding the spread of Islam in the Pakpak area which has received less attention in academic studies. The main focus of this research is to identify the path of entry of Islam, what are the evidence of Islamic historical heritage and analyze the influence of Islam on the people of Mahala village, especially in social and cultural aspects. This research uses a qualitative method with a historical approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, religious leaders, as well as direct observation of historical sites such as old tombs in Lae Meang Hamlet. In addition, secondary sources of documentation are used in the form of articles, archives, and oral historical records. The results of the study show that Islam began to be known in Mahala Village around the 1920s, as evidenced by the existence of the tombs of Islamic propagators with the year of death written between 1923-1927. The process of spreading Islam took place peacefully through trade routes and social interactions, especially by immigrants from Aceh and Barus. Important figures in this process include Teuku Panjang Rambut and Abdurrahim Berutu. Although the Muslim community in Mahala remains a minority, their existence is harmoniously accepted by the local community. The conclusion of this article shows that the process of Islamization in Mahala Village took place culturally and peacefully, not through confrontation. This shows the importance of a social and locality approach in understanding the dynamics of the spread of religion in multicultural areas such as Pakpak Bharat.

Abstract

The Sitompul clan is one of the Toba Batak clans that originally settled in Tarutung, North Tapanuli. As a result of the Padri War (1803-1838), a conflict between the Padri and the Minangkabau indigenous people which then spread to the Batak region, the Sitompul clan migrated to various places, including to Huraba Village, South Tapanuli Regency. This research aims to analyze the migration process of Sitompul Clan to Huraba Village and the Islamization process in Huraba Village. This research uses the historical method with four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data collection was conducted through document study, field observation, and in-depth interviews. The results show that the migration of the Sitompul clan to Huraba village occurred in several waves, starting in the early 19th century as a direct result of the Padri War. The process of Islamization in Huraba Village took place gradually, starting with the entry of Muslim traders and continued with the spread of Islamic teachings by local religious figures. This Islamization brought significant changes in the social and cultural structure of the Sitompul clan community in Huraba village. This article contributes to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of migration and cultural transformation in the context of local history, as well as enriching insights into the local wisdom of the Batak people.

Abstract

This article discusses the history and development of the Bilah Sultanate which is currently located in Labuhanbatu Regency. This sultanate is one of the influential sultanates in the East Sumatra region, especially Labuhanbatu. This sultanate became the conquered territory of the Siak Indrapura Sultanate which was supported by the Dutch. This article uses a historical research method with four steps, namely: heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The author's data collection was done by directly visiting the locations of the former areas of the Bilah Sultanate, interviews with traditional leaders and descendants, as well as written data from archives, books, journals and so on. The results showed that the Sultanate of Bilah had a period of prosperity as a result of its cooperation with the Dutch Colonial. Plantation investments made by European businessmen in the Labuhanbatu region and its surroundings were the reason this sultanate became so prosperous. However, because of its proximity, the Sultanate of Bilah also became a victim of the ferocity of the anti-feudalism (social revolution) movement in 1946 which targeted the Malay aristocrats in East Sumatra. The tragedy marked the end of the existence of the Blade Sultanate in the Labuhanbatu region.
