Abstract

Human resources (HR) are crucial for vocational education institutions like the West Sumatra Maritime Polytechnic to produce competent graduates ready for the maritime industry. However, evidence indicates that the graduates' skills do not meet industry standards. This study aims to analyze human resource management at the West Sumatra Maritime Polytechnic using SWOT analysis. Data collection methods included observation, documentation studies, and interviews. The analysis results show that the West Sumatra Maritime Polytechnic has strengths in experienced instructors and adequate facilities, but it also has weaknesses in ineffective recruitment and training systems. Opportunities arise from government support, partnerships with the industry, and competition with other educational institutions. Considering the SWOT matrix, collaboration with companies is the best strategy to enhance business outcomes.

Abstract

Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) memegang peranan penting dalam mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi nasional, dengan kontribusi sekitar 60% terhadap Produk Domestik Bruto (PDB) dan menyerap lebih dari 97% tenaga kerja. Di wilayah Jorong Pasa Nagari Paninjauan, Kabupaten Solok, UMKM menjadi fondasi utama dalam menggerakkan ekonomi masyarakat setempat. Namun demikian, masih rendahnya tingkat literasi keuangan menjadi kendala utama yang menghambat kemajuan sektor ini. Berdasarkan hasil survei awal, mayoritas pelaku UMKM belum memiliki pemahaman yang memadai mengenai konsep dasar pengelolaan keuangan, pencatatan transaksi, serta perencanaan anggaran. Hal ini menyebabkan kesulitan dalam pengelolaan modal dan akses terhadap pembiayaan dari lembaga formal. Untuk mengatasi persoalan tersebut, dilaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang mencakup pelatihan literasi keuangan, pendampingan usaha, serta edukasi mengenai akses pembiayaan. Pelatihan ini dilakukan secara partisipatif dan aplikatif, memungkinkan peserta langsung menerapkan materi dalam praktik usaha mereka. Kegiatan pendampingan turut memperkuat kemampuan pelaku usaha dalam pencatatan keuangan, melakukan analisis keuangan, serta mengelola arus kas secara efisien. Berdasarkan evaluasi melalui kuesioner dan wawancara, ditemukan peningkatan tingkat pemahaman peserta dari 45% menjadi 80%. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan bahwa program yang dirancang secara tepat dapat meningkatkan kepercayaan diri dan kemampuan pengambilan keputusan finansial para pelaku UMKM. Untuk memastikan keberlanjutan, program sebaiknya dilaksanakan secara periodik dengan dukungan modul praktis, kolaborasi dengan institusi keuangan, serta digitalisasi sistem pencatatan keuangan.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of a structured and practice-based textbook for ship diesel engine maintenance aimed at Nautical Technology students at West Sumatra Shipping Polytechnic.The background highlights the increasing demand for skilled maritime workforce in Indonesia, contrasted with the lack of adequate teaching materials that combine theory and practice.The study aims to bridge this gap through a project-based learning approach. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation).Data were collected from students of the Nautical Technology study program and validated by two subject matter experts. Findings indicate that students had not been using proper printed resources and relied mostly on internet materials and lecturers explanations.The developed textbook received positive validation from experts with a score categorized as feasible with revision. Students' responses showed the textbook was attractive and effective in improving understanding and practical readiness.The research contributes to enhancing vocational education quality, strengthening the connection between theory and practice, and preparing competent graduates in maritime technology.It is concluded that the developed textbook is suitable for implementation with minor improvements, and further research is suggested to extend its application to other fields of maritime studies

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to improve the knowledge and skills of fishermen in Ketaping Beach, Padang Pariaman Regency, in maintaining and repairing boat engines. The background of this activity is the low awareness of fishermen of safety at sea and the frequent breakdown of boat engines during operation. The methods used are in the form of socialization and training consisting of lectures, discussions, and the practice of disassembling boat engine components. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in fishermen's understanding of work safety and boat engine maintenance techniques. The fishermen also gave a very positive response and hoped that similar activities could continue in the future. This activity is expected to be able to reduce the risk of engine damage at sea, increase the efficiency of seagoing activities, and encourage the improvement of the welfare of fishermen in Ketaping.

Abstract

Pumps play an important role in moving fluids from one place to another. In this study, the Ebara 125 x 100 FS4KA centrifugal pump was used. The thing that made the author interested in conducting this research was the reduction in the performance of the centrifugal pump to circulate water from the training pool to the holding tank and back to the pool. The aim of this was to determine the factors causing the decline in the performance of the centrifugal pump. The method used is observation through data collection and data processing, data obtained from the field, namely wear and tear on the impeller diameter, which greatly influences pump performance. Before the pump was repaired with an impeller diameter of 245 mm, the pump capacity was 78 m3/hour, the pump hydraulic power was 5.8 Kw, the pump head was 27.4 m, the pump efficiency was 43.20%, and the fluid speed was 1,014 m/sec. After repairing the Ebara 125 x 100 FS4KA centrifugal pump by replacing the impeller size by 250 mm, the performance of the Ebara 125 x 100 FS4KA centrifugal pump increased by 80 m3/hour, pump hydraulic power 6.04 KW, pump head 28 m, pump efficiency of 45.24%, and fluid velocity of 1,032 m/sec.
