Abstract

The quality of laboratory test results is ensured by implementing quality control measures, which usually require control materials. The high cost of commercial control materials poses a challenge for laboratory quality control. Commonly, laboratory control materials are commercial control serums derived from animal serum that undergoes lyophilization during manufacturing. This study aims to assess the stability of CPDA pooled plasma that has been frozen for 60 days, using precision tests both within-run and between-day. Methods: This experimental research utilized CPDA pooled plasma samples from hematology laboratory waste at Poltekkes Kemenkes Semarang. The samples were frozen at -20℃ for 60 days. Quality control (QC) analysis was conducted using within-run and between-day precision tests without replication, to determine the standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV). The results were then statistically analyzed using a one-way ANOVA to assess the difference in CPDA pooled plasma stability between the within-run and between-day precision tests. The QC results for within-day and between-day precision were as follows: the average for within-day was 4.066 and for between-day 3.2785; SD for within-day was 0.20 and for between-day 0.09; CV for within-day was 4.9% and for between-day 2.9%. The one-way ANOVA test showed a significance value of 0.316, indicating no significant difference between the within-day and between-day QC methods in terms of precision testing. Conclusion: CPDA pooled plasma remains stable in maintaining the precision of QC results for uric acid using the enzymatic colorimetric method (end-point) after 60-80 days of storage and can be used as an alternative to commercial control materials in uric acid QC testing.

Abstract

Fresh vegetables can be a source of transmission of worm infections to humans. The behavior of washing fresh vegetables that are not good by housewives and sellers of fresh vegetables in food stalls becomes large in transmitting worm infections if there are worm eggs that are still attached to fresh vegetables. The most common contamination found in fresh vegetables were eggs of the intestinal nematode Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) as well as non-STH and trematodes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sanitation hygiene and contamination of non-STH worm eggs in fresh vegetables at food stalls in Semarang City. This type of research is an observational study with a cross sectional approach. Based on the results of laboratory tests, from a total of 165 samples examined, eggs of non-STH worms with species of Fasciola sp and Toxocara sp were found in 45 food stalls selling fresh vegetables. Based on bivariate analysis, there was no significant relationship between personal hygiene (p = 0.071) and environmental sanitation (p = 0.334) on contamination of non-STH worm eggs in fresh vegetables in food stalls in Pedurungan District, Semarang.

Abstract

Air pollution can affect health conditions, CO and Pb are one of the compositions of vehicle exhaust gases that are dangerous. Online motorcycle taxi drivers have a high risk of exposure to pollutants. This research aims to determine the risk factors that affect hemoglobin levels in online motorcycle taxi drivers in the Tanjung Emas Area of Semarang City. The method used observational analytics with a cross-sectional approach. The total population in this study was 55 respondents and the number of respondents was determined using total sampling. Based on the results of examining hemoglobin levels using a hematology analyzer, of 55 respondents, 47 respondents had normal hemoglobin levels and 8 respondents had abnormal hemoglobin levels. The results of the Chi square test on smoking status have a significant relationship (p=0.04) to the blood hemoglobin level of online motorcycle taxis in the Tanjung Emas Area of Semarang city while in the status of Education, length of work, and knowledge there is no significant relationship (>0.05) to the hemoglobin level of online motorcycle taxi drivers in the Tanjung Emas Area of Semarang City. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between smoking status and hemoglobin levels of online motorcycle taxi drivers in the Tanjung Emas Area of Semarang City and there is no significant relationship between education factors, length of work time, and knowledge of hemoglobin levels of online motorcycle taxis in the Tanjung Emas Area of Semarang City.
