Abstract

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital platforms in global commerce has reshaped conventional transactional norms, including among Indonesian Muslims, raising normative debates on the legitimacy of e-commerce within Islamic jurisprudence. While prior studies have addressed e-commerce in Islamic legal discourse, few have examined the transformation of ʿurf (customary practice) as a legitimate legal source in the digital age. This study introduces the DigitalʿUrf Alignment Model (DUAM), an integrative legal-epistemological framework that systematizes the adaptation of classical ʿurf to digital contexts through maqāṣid al-sharīʿah based validation. Employing a qualitative-normative approach, the research analyzes Fatwa No. 146/2021, issued by the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI), classical and contemporary fiqh sources, and emerging digital transaction models. It integrates concepts from uṣūl al-fiqh, maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and socio-philosophical reasoning to reconceptualize ʿurf as a dynamic category of legal interpretation. The findings affirm that digital ʿurf, structured through DUAM, enables its institutionalization as a normative legal source for fatwa and provides a scalable method for integrating classical jurisprudence with digital finance regulations.

Abstract

This study analyzes the process of negotiating the identity and religious authority of the habaib at the Pesantren Sholahuddin in Surabaya. Historically viewed as descendants of the Prophet, the habaib are no longer accepted unconditionally but are continually negotiated based on their knowledge, morals, and social roles. Using a qualitative approach and ethnographic methods—including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation—the study found that Pesantren Sholahuddin does not rely solely on lineage but also emphasizes scholarly credentials, lineage, and moral integrity. In this negotiation process, there is a dynamic construction of identity and authority, where lineage, scholarly knowledge, and moral character complement and compete with one another. This research makes an important contribution to the study of religious authority and the role of pesantren institutions as spaces for identity negotiation. It also demonstrates that religious leadership in Indonesia is not a monolithic entity but is formed through processes of negotiation and contestation based on multidimensional criteria.

Abstract

Kejawen is often interpreted as harmful, deviant, and far from theological elements. This is inseparable from the mandate that kejawen is synonymous with magical, irrational, and magical things. It is as if there is a demarcation line that separates the two elements, assuming that kejawen is dry with spiritual and theological aspects. However, this research proves that kejawen theology is a theological view that is uniquely Javanese. From kejawen theology, a lot can be extracted about the manifestation of God and other dimensions, including the supernatural, namely ghosts. In addition, kejawen has also become the value of life in Javanese society, full of inner appreciation. And through the interpretation of R.Ng.Ronggowarsito's teachings are contained in the Wirid Hidayat Jati and Paramayoga Fibers; one can get an outline that kejawen is closely related to Islam.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the resilience of moderate Muslims in the midst of the reality of the post truth virus that has spread today. The purpose of this research is to find out the typology, theory and practice of moderate Islam in the post-truth era in Indonesia. The approach used is qualitative and by using descriptive analysis methods to study various data sources: from books, journals, scientific works, newspapers, and so on that have a relationship with the theme of discussion. The results of the study show that the typology of moderate Islam refers to those who reject the application of violence as a line of ideology and struggle. The theory of moderate Islam or wasatiyyah Islam has emerged and developed in three historical periods: 1) the ta'sis period (the formation period); 2) tathwir period (development period); 3) the period of tahdits (modernization). The practice of moderate Islam or wasatiyyah Islam in the post-truth era is fused into three scopes of lines of action, including: 1) epistemological lines, moderate Islam is not only inclined to one methodological door in obtaining the truth, but uses various sides of approach to obtain factual truth, so it is less likely to be exposed to hoaxes in the post truth era; 2) the ontological line, the existence of Islamic wasat}iyyah is also a response to cases of stigmatizing Islamophobia in Indonesia; 3) the axiological line, the dimensions of wisdom and wisdom values wrapped in the concepts of tasamuh (tolerance), ta'adul (fair), tawazun (balanced) in moderate Islam, are very effectively applied in the post truth era to fight hoaxes and doctrines of extremist acts that terrorist groups continue to do today.

Abstract

This study examines the ideological contestation between two Sufi organizations within Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), namely Jam’iyyah Ahluth Thariqah al-Mu’tabarah an-Nahdliyyah (JATMAN) and Jam’iyyah Ahlith Thariqah al-Mu’tabarah Aswaja (JATMA Aswaja). Both entities share a similar vision of spiritual da‘wah but pursue different paths in constructing religious authority. JATMAN emphasizes the continuity of NU’s traditions and institutional structures, while JATMA Aswaja—led by Habib Luthfi bin Yahya—promotes a more inclusive, progressive, and community-empowering Sufi approach. The purpose of this study is to analyze their ideological narratives, religious symbols, and socio-religious impacts. Employing qualitative library research, this study applies Clifford Geertz’s symbolic theory, which views religion as a system of meaning expressed through symbols and rituals. Data were collected from organizational documents, public sermons, online news, journal articles, and related theses. The findings indicate that the conflict between JATMAN and JATMA Aswaja is not merely structural but also symbolic. Differences in the use of symbols and ritual styles reflect divergent ideologies and da‘wah strategies. This contestation significantly influences the social, educational, economic, and cultural aspects of traditionalist Muslim communities. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of Sufi authority and symbolic construction within the broader context of Indonesia’s moderate Islamic movements.
