Abstract

This paper attempts to investigate the price volatility of fruits with higher economic values, which are avocado, apple, guava, banana, and jackfruit, and analyzes the long-term and short-term period relationship between production and prices of these fruits. The data used are the quarterly productions and prices of avocado, apple, guava, banana, and jackfruit on the producer level for 2012 to 2020 obtained from Agriculture office of Batu Municipality. The volatility evaluation was using the ARCH/GARCH. The long-term relationship was analyzed using the Johansen cointegration test, and the short-term relationship used the Error Corection Mechanism (ECM). The results of the volatility analysis confirmed that every fruit studied had a low volatility rate. In addition, the productions and prices of the commodities studied had been cointegrated in the long-run; however only avocado, guava, and apple have a short-run relationship. The government is suggested to provide price and production information systems to ensure farmers' market access. Keywords: price volatility, fruits, ARCH/GARCH, cointegration, ECM

Abstract

Increasing the amount of rice production is needed to meet the needs of rice as the main food of the Indonesian people. One of the efforts that can be made to increase production and or productivity is to use inputs efficiently. Efficient use of inputs can be influenced by the managerial ability of farmers, where the managerial ability of farmers can have an impact on technical inefficiency. Farmers in Babaan Hamlet as the research location are suspected to be technically inefficient. Some of the causes include management capabilities derived from social factors and the ability to adapt to climate change. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to analyze the factors that affect rice production, analyze the technical efficiency of rice farming in Babaan Hamlet, and analyze the factors that affect technical inefficiency. The method used to answer the first and second objectives is Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) with Cobb Douglass production function and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) approach. While the third objective was answered by using tobit regression analysis. The results showed that rice farming in Babaan Hamlet has not been technically efficient, which has an average of 58% so that it can still be increased by 42%. Factors that positively affect the amount of production are land area and the amount of pesticides. Meanwhile, social factors that negatively affect inefficiency include education and frequency of participation in counseling. On the other hand, the number of adaptation strategies to climate change has a positive effect on technical inefficiency.

Abstract

Abstract

Household food security is an important concern for the government because it can describe food security in the smallest unit, namely household consumption. One of the government's policies regarding food security on the side of food absorption is through the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2012 namely the fulfillment of diverse, nutritious, balanced, and safe food consumption patterns. The research objectives are (1) To analyze the food security of horticultural farmers' households in terms of the Energy Adequacy Rate (EAR) in Probolinggo Regency, (2) To analyze the food security of horticultural farmers' households as seen from the Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) in Probolinggo Regency, and (3) To analyze the factors that influence the Desirable Dietary Pattern (DDP) in Probolinggo Regency. The results showed that food security in terms of quantity and quality still did not meet the recommendations. The actual EAR of horticultural farmers in Probolinggo Regency is 1867.76 kcal/capita/day, which is still below the normative or recommended EAR of 2,100 kcal/capita/day. The actual DDP score is 74.15 which states that the actual DDP is still below the normative DDP of 100. Two parameters have a significant effect on the dependent variable, namely farm income (X1) and dummy nutrition knowledge of housewives (DX2), while dummy education head of household (X3) has no significant effect.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on the agricultural sector, both in terms of trade, prices, and the decline in farmers' income levels. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, food security is something that the government must pay attention to so that there is no food crisis. If farmer households have not realized food security, it won't be easy to create food security at higher levels such as the village, district, provincial, and national levels. This study aims to analyze food security based on EAR and SFE values and determine the effect of socioeconomic factors on household resilience. Determination of the research location was determined purposively, and the number of samples was taken by cluster sampling. The analytical method uses the Jonnson and Toole model to determine household food security and multiple linear regression analysis to determine the effect of socioeconomic factors on EAR. The results of the food security analysis show that 51.7% of households with energy consumption >80% and expenditure of 60% are categorized as food vulnerable. The results of the analysis of socio-economic factors that can affect EAR are income, number of dependents in the family, length of education of housewives, and age of the head of the family with a confidence level of 80%. The analysis results show that most shallot farming households are in a food-insecure state.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of technical efficiency in potato farming (Solanum tuberosum) in East Java Province, using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. The research locations were selected in Sumber Brantas Village, Batu City, and Wonokerso Village, Probolinggo Regency, involving 120 potato farmers as respondents. The analysis results indicate that the majority of respondent farmers are in the Increasing Return to Scale (IRS) production scale, with 36 farmers, or about 30% of the total respondents, being in a Constant Returns to Scale (CRS) condition, which indicates that they are at a relatively optimal efficiency level, with 71 farmers, or approximately 59.17% of the total respondents, achieving an efficient score of 1.00. On the other hand, there are 13 farmers, or about 10.83% of the total respondents, who are in a Decreasing Return to Scale (DRS) production scale. The average technical efficiency of potato farmers in this study reached 81.2%, with a percentage of 48.33%. Most farmers from the total respondents successfully achieved an efficient value with a score of 1.00. However, there are also two farmers categorized as having very low efficiency at 1.67%. Meanwhile, the percentage of low efficiency is 11.67%, moderate efficiency is 22.50%, and high efficiency is 15.83%, indicating significant potential for improvement. These findings suggest that inefficiency is caused by suboptimal input management and the need for training and guidance to enhance farmers' understanding of better cultivation practices. Therefore, this study recommends interventions in agricultural input management and increased access to technology, capital, and infrastructure support as strategic steps to improve the overall technical efficiency of potato farming

Abstract

Climate change is an important issue in agricultural development policy because it has a real impact on decreasing agricultural production, especially in horticultural crops. The research was conducted in October 2022 and January 2023 in Donowarih Village, Karangploso District, Malang Regency. The population in this study were horticultural farmers in Borogragal Hamlet, Donowarih Village. The method of determining respondents is done by using the census method. The analysis used is descriptive statistical analysis, income, and logistic regression. The forms of adaptation strategies carried out by farmers include changing cropping patterns, changing plant varieties, changing types of fertilizers, increasing irrigation, and intercropping. Based on the income analysis, it was found that the largest farmer incomes were farmers who adopted adaptation strategies for changes in cropping patterns, plant varieties, increased irrigation, and intercropping of Rp.11,425,288 per month per hectare, while the smallest incomes of horticulture farmers were farmers who did not adopt climate change adaptation strategy of  Rp.1,311,433 per month per hectare. The results of logistic regression analysis show that farmers' perceptions of access to credit, frequency of participation in agricultural counseling, age and number of dependents of farmer's families have a significant positive effect on farmers' decisions in adopting climate change adaptation strategies.
