Abstract

Aims: Older adults are often accompanied by chronic disease which makes nursing care more complex. The experiences of students providing care to older adults can encourage them to gain a deeper understanding, find effective strategies when facing challenges, and realize their own needs as future nurses. This study aimed to determine the experiences of nursing students in carrying out geriatric nursing practice. Methods: This study employed a qualitative study using a narrative research design. The purposive sample consisted of twelve nursing students who had completed 2 weeks of geriatric nursing. The variables explored were experiences of nursing students during geriatric nursing practice. Data collection used in this study was a student’s reflective assignment. The analysis was conducted using a thematic analysis approach. Results: All respondents were willing to participate in the study. Five themes emerged, including family assistance during care, the patient's condition while undergoing treatment, students' feelings and competencies when caring for the elderly, changes in a better understanding of the elderly, and expected goals to be achieved by students. Conclusions: This study focuses on the implementation of care for elderly patients in the hospital, which promotes the need for students to improve their skills in providing nursing care.

Abstract

Background: Sleep deprivation in patients with heart failure can negatively deteriorate its condition. Purpose: Identify the sleep deprivation in patients with heart failure (HF) and related factors, and the impact of sleep deprivation. Method: literature review of quantitative studies. The search strategy employs terms relevant to the research question: HF, sleep deprivation on HF patients. Inclusion criteria papers had to be published in English after 2013 to 2023. 3 databases were searched (Pubmed, Ovid, Ebscohost). Results: 12 studies were identified (cross-sectional (9 studies) secondary from longitudinal observational (2 studies), randomized controlled trial (1 study). Total patients with HF in all studies are 2359 samples. The most questionnaire to measure sleep deprivation used over the papers are Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).PSQI mean score range from 5.04 (2.80) to 12.29 (3.91). The prevalence of sleep deprivation ranges from 36.5% to 98.8%. The related factors with sleep deprivation including older age, women, living in urban, lower employment, smoking, high BMI, HF condition, sleep factors, anxious, depressive, and stress. The consequences of sleep deprivation such as lower self-care behavior, self-confidence, attention, increasing pain, shorter cardiac event-free survival, functional outcome, prognosis, quality of life, increase unplanned hospitalization risks, poorer perfomance in cognitive in adults and worse perfomance on cognitive. Conclusion: Sleep deprivation in HF is higher and related with demographic, HF related factors, lifestyle, sleep factors, and psychosocial. The consequences of sleep deprivation have adverse effects on psychosocial and cognitive.

Abstract

Abstract: Parents are part of the family who have the role of carrying out the family protection function, namely creating a sense of security and comfort for family members, including when children experience emergencies, such as choking in children and infants, and juvenile delinquency. The incidence of choking and juvenile delinquency has a high value, so parental handling is needed to overcome these problems. This community service aims to provide education on handling choking in infants and children, as well as handling juvenile delinquency. The method used was counseling to 25 people at the Integrated Service Post (Posyandu) Melati IV Galuga Village, Binong. Participants filled out a pre-test sheet of 10 questions, and a post-test of 10 questions before and after the material presentation session. Participants were also given the opportunity to discuss the material provided. Based on the results of the pretest and posttest scores, there was an increase of 11.2 points in the average posttest score (66.4) from the average pretest score (75.2). For this reason, it is necessary to re-conduct education related to relevant topics routinely and programmatically by health workers or health center officers in the community.

Abstract

Introduction: Since COVID-19 2019 became a global pandemic, the blended learning method has gained popularity, including in nursing education. A valid and trustworthy questionnaire is required in Indonesia to measure blended learning satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of Indonesian BLSS, a validated tool from Taiwan, among nursing students. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design to assess the validity and reliability of BLSS. The sample included 231 first-year nursing students from a university in Indonesia. The splitting sample method was utilized for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The BLSS was translated using forward and backward translation. Three experts validated the content, while EFA and CFA investigated the structural validity. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. Results: The content validity index (CVI) of BLSS was 0.975. The mean age of the respondents was 19.26 (0.05), with the majority being female (85.07%). In EFA, one factor was retained based on cumulative variance, a scree plot, and parallel analysis. The CFA also showed one factor as retained. The factor loading of each item was greater than 0.5 both in EFA and CFA. This instrument has an internal consistency of 0.955 according to Cronbach’s alpha. Conclusion: The Indonesian BLSS is good, based on CVI, EFA, CFA and internal consistency analysis, which were used to measure satisfaction with blended learning. By measuring satisfaction following blended learning using BLSS, we hope that the learning process can be regarded as satisfactory and improved among nursing students.
