Abstract

Nursing students who are prepared to be professional nurses need to have holistic health. Health is not only physical but also mental. The educational process taken; both theories in the classroom and practical learning experiences can cause stress to students. Resilience is the ability to bounce back after facing a problem, which is needed so students can carry out their education process well. This study aimed to identify the relationship between resilience and stress and the mental well-being of nursing students. This research is quantitative correlational research with a cross-sectional design. The study population was nursing students in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, and with the purposive sampling technique, a sample of 223 students was obtained. The instruments used in this study were valid and reliable, including The Resilience 14 questionnaire (alfa Cronbach 0.76), the Stress in Nursing Education Questionnaire (Cronbach 0.946), and The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scales (Cronbach 0.84). The result of the study was that 64.1% of students had high resilience, 62.8% experienced severe stress, and 75.3% had an average mental well-being level. There is a relationship between resilience and stress and the mental well-being of students (p less than 0.05). Severe stress conditions experienced by nursing students do not necessarily decrease their resilience and mental well-being. Stress management interventions are needed so nursing students can complete their education, maintain high and improve mental well-being.

Abstract

Background: Patients with mental disorders such as schizophrenia need family support in home care to reduce relapse and help patients return to productivity. Based on the results of a nursing assessment conducted to patients in the inpatient room of a special hospital in Western Indonesia, the causes of patient relapse include drug withdrawal and psychological stressors. The purpose of this community service is to provide psychoeducation for the patient's family to increase knowledge about how to care for patients with schizophrenia while at home so that they can be more productive and reduce relapse. Methods: This community service was carried out in the form of education and discussion in groups. Participants were families of patients admitted to one of the inpatient units of a regional special hospital with a medical diagnosis of schizophrenia and a problem of violent behavior. A pre and post-test was conducted to determine the level of family knowledge in caring for patients. Family psychoeducation was provided by a psychiatric nurse specialist in the patient's family group. Results: After being given family psychoeducation, it was found that there was an increase in the average family knowledge about how to care for patients with schizophrenia with risk problems for violent behavior. The majority of families said this activity was very useful because they could share experiences in caring for their sick family members, and provide mutual support between families.Recommendation: This activity is expected to form a family support group for patients with schizophrenia and become a medium for exchanging experiences and information about patient care.

Abstract

The use of the internet in higher education is very helpful for the learning process, including for nursing students. The use of the internet has increased since the Covid-19 pandemic provides both benefits and risks for students. Excessive internet use can have an impact on an individual's emotions. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the association between emotional regulation and internet addiction in nursing students. Method: the quantitative correlational design was used in this study. About 279 nursing students were obtained using the purposive sampling technique. Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (cronbach α for the suppression category 0.707 and 0.761 the reappraisal category) and Internet Addiction Test questionnaire (cronbach α 0.895)was used in study. The data were analyzed by univariate and Spearman rank-order bivariate analysis. Results: The nursing students tended to use cognitive appraisal (95.3%) and expressive suppression (87.1%) as a strategy of emotional regulation. The level of internet addiction of the students was mild (40.1%), moderate (29%) and severe (2.5%). There is no relationship between emotion regulation and internet addiction of nursing students (cognitive appraisal p=0.882; expressive suppression p=0.617). Even though the students were in mild internet addiction, they could regulate their emotion well. Conclusions Emotion regulation is not the only thing that can cause internet addiction. The ability to early recognize the symptoms of internet addiction is needed to prevent the condition becoming severe.

A multifaceted approach is needed to prevent and treat diabetes. Community empowerment is a process that enables people to increase control over their lives. Empowering the community is expected to help overcome diabetes risk factors, especially modifiable factors such as diet, physical activity, smoking habits, and alcohol consumption. This activity aimed to describe the health status, including BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, uric acid, and cholesterol, and empowering the community by increasing knowledge through health education regarding risk factors and prevention of diabetes. This activity was conducted on March 10, 2024. The learning methods included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and return-demonstrations. The learning media used were PowerPoint presentations and teaching aids in the form of newspapers. The results of this activity showed that the majority had a normal BMI (41.71%), while others were overweight (35.58%) or obese (17.17%). Most had normal blood pressure (60.73%), but some cases of pre-hypertension and hypertension were observed. Most had abnormal blood glucose levels (52.14%) and cholesterol levels (69.32%). Health interventions are needed to manage these risk factors through community empowerment, ongoing health education, regular monitoring, and lifestyle modifications. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Community Empowerment, Health Education
