Abstract

Nursing students who are prepared to be professional nurses need to have holistic health. Health is not only physical but also mental. The educational process taken; both theories in the classroom and practical learning experiences can cause stress to students. Resilience is the ability to bounce back after facing a problem, which is needed so students can carry out their education process well. This study aimed to identify the relationship between resilience and stress and the mental well-being of nursing students. This research is quantitative correlational research with a cross-sectional design. The study population was nursing students in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, and with the purposive sampling technique, a sample of 223 students was obtained. The instruments used in this study were valid and reliable, including The Resilience 14 questionnaire (alfa Cronbach 0.76), the Stress in Nursing Education Questionnaire (Cronbach 0.946), and The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scales (Cronbach 0.84). The result of the study was that 64.1% of students had high resilience, 62.8% experienced severe stress, and 75.3% had an average mental well-being level. There is a relationship between resilience and stress and the mental well-being of students (p less than 0.05). Severe stress conditions experienced by nursing students do not necessarily decrease their resilience and mental well-being. Stress management interventions are needed so nursing students can complete their education, maintain high and improve mental well-being. Abstrak: Mahasiswa keperawatan yang dipersiapkan menjadi perawat professional membutuhkan kesehatan yang holistic. Abstract

Compassion satisfaction is a positive emotion experienced as a result of helping others and is connected to nurses’ self-care. Self-care is the daily activities that an individual engages in to meet basic physiological and emotional needs, including establishing daily routines, relationships with family, and the environment. A preliminary study discovered that seventeen nurses engaged in self-care activities before or following the COVID-19 pandemic, with 76.5 percent of nurses expressing satisfaction with their jobs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-care practices and nurses’ compassion satisfaction in Indonesia. This quantitative correlation study collected 397 samples through accidental sampling using an online survey. The instruments used were the Indonesian version of the compassion satisfaction scale derived from the Professional Quality of Life Scale (Cronbach alpha 0,795) and the Clinical Version of the Mindful Self-Care Scale (Cronbach alpha 0,966). Ethical clearance was obtained from the institutional review board. The rank spearman correlation was used to analyze the data, indicating a positive correlation between self-care practices and compassion satisfaction (p = 0.0001; r = 0.634). Nurses’ compassion satisfaction is increased through self-care. Assessment of workload and practicing self-care are encouraged to help increase nurses’ compassion satisfaction, specifically during COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Introduction: Deliberate self-harm (DSH) refers to a purposeful and intentional act of self-injury that individuals engage in as a means to regulate their emotions. This phenomenon is frequently observed throughout the period of adolescence, characterized by the onset of both physical and psychological transformations. There are multiple factors that contribute to the emergence of deliberate self-harm (DSH), with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) being one of them. Method: The primary objective of this study was to examine the correlation between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the inclination towards deliberate self-harm (DSH) among adolescents in Indonesia. Results: The study employed a correlational quantitative methodology, and a accidental sampling was used to recruit 397 adolescent participants from Indonesia. The instruments employed in this study included the Indonesian version of the Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire (ACE.Q) with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.817, and the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI) with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.769. The data was analyzed to analysis using descriptive statistics and the Chi Square correlation test. The results of the study revealed a statistically significant association between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and deliberate self-harm (DSH), with a p-value of 0.001. Conclusions: Further investigation aims to reveal additional variables that lead to the initiation of deliberate self-harm (DSH) and other adverse childhood experiences (ACE)-related problems. Parents, educational institutions, government entities, child protection organizations, and medical professionals are obligated to consistently comply with child safety legislation and guidelines.

Abstract

Though blended learning has been applied in nursing schools in Indonesia, the number of studies with regards to students’ motivation and self-readiness in their courses is still lacking. In addition, many student nurses claimed that the Research and Statistics course was more difficult than other nursing courses. This study aimed to assess the nursing students’ motivation and self-learning readiness of blended learning in a Research and Statistics course of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Pelita Harapan. The preliminary study recruited forty nursing students for validity and reliability test purposes. Two questionnaires were translated and tested including the adapted Academic Motivation Scale and the adapted Self-Directed Learning Readiness Scale for Nursing Education. Both Cronbach’s alphas of the questionnaires were above 0.8 (good reliability), however some questions were revised based on its validity test results and its readability. A total of 181 students were involved in the study and descriptive statistics were applied in the data analysis. The findings showed that nursing students had relatively moderate self-directed learning readiness (mean 90.18). With regards to academic motivation, students’ intrinsic motivation to know (mean 3.35) was higher than in other subdimensions of academic motivation. It also means that most of the students felt happy while learning and exploring something new in the course. In conclusion, motivation and self-learning readiness of students are important when applied to a blended course. It is recommended that nurse educators should identify students’ motivation and self-learning readiness to provide student-centered learning especially in a Research and Statistics course.

Abstract

Calling is a strategy for discovering the purpose and significance of every individual, including the nurse. The awareness of a calling can motivate nurses to commit to a career. The greater nurses' awareness of their calling, the greater their devotion and sense of purpose in their work. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between calling and career commitment among Christian nurses in Indonesia. The study utilized a quantitative correlational method and cross-sectional approaches utilizing online survey technique. Accidental sampling was utilized, obtaining 96 Indonesian Christian nurses. The instruments were the Indonesian version of the Calling and Vocation Questionnaire (CVQ) (Alpha Cronbach = 0.873) and the Career Commitment Scale (CCS) questionnaire (Alpha Cronbach = 0.820). Data was analyzed using descriptive and bivariate analysis using Spearman rank correlation test. This study discovered a moderately positive correlation between a nurse's calling and career commitment (p = 0.001; r = 0.362). It is suggested that future research investigates other factors that may affect the nurse's career commitment. Understanding one's own calling as a nurse and acting on it is essential to increasing nurses' commitment to their profession.
