Abstract

Reducing carbon emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) from diesel engines struggled with engine performance challenges and fossil fuel limitations. Besides, huge transportation such as ships hardly replaced diesel engines due to the higher thermal efficiency and low operation cost. Oxy-hydrogen gas, as a carbon-free gas, could potentially improve diesel engine performance and carbon emissions. Most of the studies tried to identify the effect of oxy-hydrogen induction into diesel engine combustion on performance and emissions. However, this study evaluated oxy-hydrogen injector sizes to the diesel engine performance and carbon emissions at several loads and several engine speed conditions. Overall, the result showed that the oxy-hydrogen gas injection into the diesel engine’s intake port improved the performance and carbon emissions compared to the single diesel fuel as a baseline. High engine performance with low carbon emissions could be achieved at low and medium engine load conditions with high engine speeds. Moreover, smaller oxy-hydrogen injector sizes were suitable for the medium engine load and vice versa, to improve the performance and carbon emissions. At low load, the engine performance improvement of engine torque, specific fuel consumption, and thermal efficiency were 1800 to 2200 rpm. Moreover, the CO2 and CO emissions reductions were also suitable with 2200 rpm with a bigger oxy-hydrogen gas injector (6 mm). Furthermore, at medium load, the engine performance improved at 1400 rpm but the CO2 and CO emissions were lower at 2200 rpm with a small oxy-hydrogen gas injector (4 mm). The engine operation at 2200 rpm with a 4 mm injector also improved the engine performance regarding carbon emissions reduction. However, injecting oxy-hydrogen gas into diesel engines had the potential to enhance the engine performance and reduce carbon emissions, moving closer to achieving zero emissions

Abstract

Abstract

In the coastal areas of East Java, especially in the Blimbing area, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, most of the population works as fishermen who catch marine fish. One of the problems faced by fishermen is the use of ice cubes to preserve fish. However, ice cubes can reduce fish quality, melt easily, and are expensive. Also, it adds to the burden of the ship and increases the consumption of fuel oil (BBM). This socialisation programme aims to overcome these problems by introducing a cooling system that uses renewable energy through solar energy. This activity was carried out by presenting material and designing a solar cooling system on the boat. With this system, fishermen are expected to maintain good fish quality, increase production, and reduce operational costs, especially for fuel and ice, thereby increasing fishermen's income. This solar energy cooling system produces 1050 WP of power per day and has a battery capacity of 2400 Wh, and the ability to cool the freezer for an average of 12 hours per day.

Abstract

The importance of the socio-economic dimension of the utilization of marine potential in an area, with the existence of various regulations and technological developments, both regarding the technology of marine potential utilization tools and technology to develop and preserve the Marine potential itself, so that it can be utilized as much as possible for Prosperity. Contribution to fill the gap with socio-economic assessment of the utilization of the maritime sector of Surabaya city can be done by several steps, namely creating a” framework " for the maritime economy, then collecting and classifying socio-economic indicators that are comparable to be reliable in the maritime world. The Data obtained will allow us to assess the size of the maritime sector of the city of Surabaya and its position in the maritime claster framework made by both the provincial and central governments, as well as discuss the suitability of the strategy to form a claster at the National vs. transnational level. The results show the difference between Central and local government policies, at least at the level of implementation, expanding knowledge about marine potential that will allow to design strategies that address the real issues of marine potential utilization policies so that they become effective.

Abstract

In this paper an attempt has been made to assess how effective waste-collecting use catamaran ship with conveyor in the front. Numerical investigation based on Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) for predicting the flow pattern characteristics, velocity contour, and ship resistance. The focus of the present study is the impact of catamaran ship hull front shape on waste collection in calm water through the numerical methods. The three variations of the front of the hull used are symmetrical hull type, inner flat, and outer flat. It is done using speed variations of 1 to 4 knots. The results show inner flat hull catamaran has the smallest total resistance value than others. In addition, analysis of the flow pattern in front of catamaran shows that outer flat hull catamaran is the easiest to make waste closer to conveyor. From analysis of velocity contours shows that outer flat hull catamaran also has fastest to make the waste close to conveyor.

Abstract

Al-Karimiyyah Islamic Boarding School in Sumenep faces problems in water supply. The female students are forced to use brackish well water for drinking because the availability of potable water is limited, while using the services of a gallon water provider is very expensive. The need for drinking water must be met on an ongoing basis given the large number of female students and staff living there. This training activity aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the use of the reverse osmosis method water purifier. As well as improving the quality of water so that it is suitable for drinking.  The reverse osmosis system will treat and filter water to neutralise taste, odour, and harmful substances, so that it becomes ready-to-drink water. The training method was carried out through workshops and training on the use of tools with reverse osmosis systems that use solar power sources for female students in Beraji Village.  This activity was carried out for three days in the hall of Al-Karimiyyah Islamic boarding school, Braji village, Gapura sub-district, Sumenep district, East Java.   The boarding school residents learnt how to install and maintain a filtration device with reverse osmosis technology to provide ready-to-drink water. The device is placed outdoors for easy access by female students. Solar panel technology is used as the main power source so that this tool is independent in terms of electricity and can be placed in any location. This training activity is also an alternative to providing drinking water that is suitable for consumption, so that it can save time and money. In addition, santriwati also get education about the importance of consuming clean water to avoid disease. Santriwati now have sustainable access to clean drinking water. The application of reverse osmosis technology with solar power not only increases the availability of clean water, but also becomes a solution to electricity scarcity.
