Abstract

The informal sector in the labor market is often regarded as filled with low-quality, low-productivity, low-wage jobs. However, in Indonesia, the informal sector is important in absorbing more than half of the total workforce and providing subsistence wages for those not absorbed in the formal labor market. This study used SUSENAS microdata to determine the workforce determinants in working in the formal and informal sectors. The study results show that higher education, male gender, and living in an urban area increased one's chances of working in the formal sector. This study also found an inverted u-shaped curve on age, where a person's tendency to work in the formal sector would increase at the beginning of their productive age and decrease after entering the age of 27. Marital status in this study increased opportunities to work in the informal sector. This research may use to improve the labor policy and improve the job opportunity in both formal and informal sector.

Abstract

The community service program in Wonosari District, Malang Regency, focuses on training in the management of organic and inorganic waste. This activity is carried out in collaboration with the Malang Waste Bank. The primary objective of the training is to enhance public knowledge about waste management methods and raise awareness of the importance of a clean environment. Based on the identified issues, this program was designed using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The PAR approach emphasizes the empowerment of the community as the primary target of the program. Under the PAR scheme, the implementing team acts as facilitators in the activities. In this program, the team applied the ADDIE method (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The results of the training proved effective, with participants’ average scores increasing from 77.5 during the pre-test to 88.3 in the post-test, indicating a significant improvement in their understanding. Additionally, a satisfaction survey revealed high levels of satisfaction, particularly in the aspects of material completeness, ease of understanding, and interaction with the facilitators. The impact of this training is expected to encourage the community to be more active in managing waste in their own environments, including through the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) introduced during the program. This approach aims to foster a shift in mindset, encouraging the community to view waste as a potential resource rather than mere trash, thereby reducing its negative environmental impact. Overall, this program contributes significantly to building a sustainable culture of environmental care in Wonosari District.

Abstract

Poverty is a complex issue faced by various countries, including Indonesia. One fiscal instrument in poverty alleviation efforts is the allocation of government public spending. Based on this policy, this research aims to analyze the efficiency of government expenditure in alleviating poverty. This study employs two methods: data envelopment analysis and panel data regression analysis. Government expenditure is proxied by education and health expenditure relative to total government spending. The estimation results of this research indicate that education expenditure has a significant negative effect. Meanwhile, health expenditure has a positive, albeit insignificant, effect on poverty. The contributions of this research include policy recommendations that the government should undertake within its fiscal capacity to address social issues such as poverty.
