Abstract

The aims of this research are to describe the types of directive illocutionary acts function in “Enola Holmes” the movie and to find out the type of directive illocutionary acts function which is mostly used by the characters in this movie. This is descriptive qualitative research. The researcher used observation methods in collecting the data. There were some steps in collecting the data: read the novel several times to understand the plot and examined the dialogue to distinguish the types of directive illocutionary act function that found in the utterance between the characters in the movie. The researcher applied Searle (1979) to analyze the data. The result of the research shows that there are 44 utterances containing directive illocutionary act function. The data were classified into four; ordering (16), forbidding (4), requesting (15), and suggesting (9). Of the total 44 directive illocutionary act function, ordering are the most used types of directives illocutionary act function because the character mostly expressed their utterances by ordering.

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyze the types of expressive illocutionary acts found in the movie “True Spirit" by Sarah Spillane. An expressive illocutionary act is a type of expression such as Thanking, Apologizing, Attitude, Greeting, Wishing, and Congratulating. To analyses the data, there are several data collection techniques performed by the researcher, such as; downloading movies, watching movies, and taking notes what some of the characters say. In addition, to classifying data included in expressive illocutionary acts. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method which includes expressions in the form of words or sentences in the form of expressive illocutionary acts in the movie. In this study, the types of expressive illocutionary acts used theory proposed by Searle (1979) to determine expressive illocutionary acts in conversation in the movie “True Spirit”. Based on the data, there are 27 utterances found in the movie. As the result of the analysis there are 6 types of Expressive illocutionary act found in the “True Spirit” movie. There are thanking, apologizing, greeting, attitude, wishing, and also congratulating. The types of Thanking consist of 7 utterances, apologizing consist of 5 utterances, greeting consist of 5 utterances, attitude consist of 5 utterances, wishing consist of 3 utterances and also the last is congratulating consist of 2 utterances.

Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the conflict that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie, and to analyze the moral values of being that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie. This movie narrates about a fat panda who has a solid desire about being the greatest warrior. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research to elaborate the conflict in this movie also, deliver a clear and brief description of the moral values of being. In the data collection, researcher combining between watching and recording techniques. These things are examined using DiYanni (2000) theory to analyze the conflict, and while, Linda & Eyre (1993) to identify the moral values of being in the movie. The subject of this research is the movie entitled Kung Fu Panda 1 by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris. The result of this study showed that are 3 (three) types of conflict that found in the Kung Fu Panda 1 movie, namely between character and themselves, between character and the other characters, and between character and society. Furthermore, there are 5 (five) types of moral values of being, namely honesty, courage, peaceability, self-reliance and potential, and self-discipline and moderation.

Abstract

Nowadays we can meet people with various types of personality that are diverse and sometimes unique. Therefore, this research entitled "A Personality Study of the Main Character in Luca Movie" has the main objective to analyze the personality of the main character in a movie entitled ‘Luca’. The method used is the documentation method to capture every scene and dialogue, which will be used as data in this study, and after that it will be continued by describing each data obtained in order to get a clearer understanding. This research uses the personality type theory proposed by Jason Gale in his book entitled ‘How to Analyze People Ultimate Guide; Learn Psychology, Body Language, Perception, Types of Personalities, and Universal Rules’. This movie has three characters as the main characters; Luca Paguro, Alberto Scorfano, and Giulia Marcovando. The results of this study indicate that Luca Paguro is the protagonist of this story and he also has introverted and feeler nature. While his friend, Alberto Scorfano is an adventurer, he is an extrovert who is also a censor. And lastly, Giulia Marcovando is an extroverted censorship type girl and a defender as seen from how she tries to protect Luca and Alberto.
