Abstract

Several scholars have different opinions regarding the law of the Rabu Wekasan amulet that lives in the Javanese Muslim community. However, despite these differences, the East Javanese Muslim community still carries out and uses amulets to carry out these rituals. This research aims to determine amulet users' perspectives on life, mindset, and worldviews, especially in the Sempen, Sumbertengah, Mumbulsari, and Jember communities. Researchers use a rational choice theory where a person's actions are primarily determined by values or choices using data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, and documentation. The research results reveal three typologies of amulet users' mindsets: 1) Tabarrukan, using the Rabu Wekasan Amulet as a wasilah (intermediary) to ask for protection from Allah; 2) Economic aspect, using Rabu Wekasan amulets to protect their economic level from losses; and 3) Social aspect: using Rabu Wekasan amulets to maintain peace and public health.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the design for developing and evaluating the media for learning with a collaborative-contextual model in improving the reading skills and bilingual abilities of early childhood in the Sukorambi Islamic Kindergarten (TK), Jember Regency. This research uses a qualitative type with a descriptive exploratory approach—data collection techniques using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The data were then analyzed using the stages of domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis with the validity of the data, the credibility of the triangulation method and sources, and confirmability. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that the six stages in the design of contextual-collaborative assured-based learning program development in improving reading skills and bilingual communication skills are as follows: Analysis of Early-Age Learners as Digital Natives: Determining learning objectives, selecting methods, media, and materials (including the application of student-centered methods, developing an Outline of Content for Podcast Media, creating Podcast Media Scripts, and formulating Bilingual Learning Implementation Plans). Utilizing media and teaching materials involves reviewing and preparing materials, establishing conducive learning environments, engaging learners, and ensuring enriching learning experiences. Additionally, active learner involvement and thorough evaluation are essential components.

Abstract

Arabic is one of the most widely used languages in the world, especially among Muslims, because it is the language of the Qur'an and hadith. In learning Arabic, there are five skills that must be mastered by students, one of which is writing skills (maharah al-kitabah), which includes insya' muwajjah skills, namely guided composition or composing sentences. However, in practice, many students face obstacles such as boredom, difficulty in composing sentences, and lack of innovation in learning. To overcome this, this study aims to improve the insya' muwajjah skills of class 1 high school students at Madrasah Diniyyah Assunniyyah Kencong Jember by using sentence board media. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection through observation, interviews, documentation, and written tests. Data analysis is carried out by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions, as well as triangulating data sources. The results of the study indicate that the use of sentence board media can increase students' interest in learning, reduce boredom, and make it easier for them to compose sentences in Arabic. This media is also effective in helping teachers deliver materials in a more interesting and interactive way. Thus, it can be concluded that the sentence board media is effective in improving the insya' muwajjah abilities of students and making the learning process more interesting and enjoyable.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of Arabic phonological assimilation among beginner students in Islamic boarding schools, with a particular focus on the application of idghām rules. The research is motivated by the observation that many novice learners struggle to connect written Arabic texts with accurate pronunciation, which affects their reading fluency and comprehension. The study employed a qualitative case study design using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify phonological errors and the underlying factors contributing to assimilation difficulties. The findings reveal that beginner learners encounter significant challenges in applying the rules of idghām, mainly due to limited phonological awareness, the absence of explicit phonological instruction, and interference from their native language. However, the results also indicate that systematic guidance and repeated practice gradually improve students’ pronunciation accuracy. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of developing explicit, contextual, and technology-based phonological instruction that addresses the specific needs of beginner learners in Islamic boarding schools. Furthermore, the study opens avenues for future research to compare phonological acquisition in pesantren and formal schools, evaluate the effectiveness of digital media in supporting phonological awareness, and conduct longitudinal studies to trace the development of assimilation competence over time.
