Abstract

The success of oil palm cultivation is closely related to the quality of seedlings produced in the nursery phase. This study evaluated the potential acceleration of early growth in oil palm seedlings by optimizing biochar-based growing media combined with organic–inorganic fertilizer formulations. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments: M1 (10 g urea + 50 g organic fertilizer), M2 (10 g NPK + 50 g organic fertilizer), and M3 (10 g urea + 10 g NPK). Each treatment was replicated ten times, resulting in 30 seedlings per replicate. Growth observations were conducted weekly from week 4 to week 20 (approximately four months), covering seedling height, leaf number, and stem diameter. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA at a 5% significance level, complemented by effect size analysis (?² and ?²) at week 20 to quantify the biological treatment's influence, and descriptive evaluation of the growth trend. The results showed no significant differences among treatments (p > 0.05). However, all treatments exceeded the physiological growth standards for four-month-old seedlings. M3 produced the highest growth response, with relative increases of 200% in height, 177.8% in leaf number, and 133.3% in stem diameter compared with the standard. These findings suggest that biochar-based growing media, combined with integrated organic-inorganic fertilizer formulations, can enhance early vegetative growth, although statistical significance has not yet been achieved within four months. Further observation up to ten months is recommended to validate the consistency of this growth acceleration.

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between attitude and leadership in improving the performance of harvest supervisors in oil palm plantations. Harvest supervisors play a strategic role as a link between management and field workers, where their personal attitude and leadership quality directly affect productivity and the quality of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). A quantitative descriptive approach was employed through case studies in several estates in South Sumatra, involving 118 respondents. The attitude variable was measured through indicators such as integrity, commitment, loyalty, innovation, and self-confidence, while the leadership variable included work instructions, task distribution, work evaluation, motivation, and occupational health and safety (OHS). Results show that the average score for attitude was 3.26 and for leadership 3.29 (on a 1–4 scale). Performance distribution indicated 15% of supervisors in category A (76), 65% in category B (56–75), and 20% in category C (55). A positive correlation was found between positive work attitudes and effective leadership, which contributed to higher performance outcomes. Estate E achieved the highest scores (3.93), while Estate C recorded the lowest (3.00–3.06). These findings highlight the need to strengthen innovation, motivation, and OHS practices as priorities in supervisor development programs. The study contributes to human resource management in agribusiness by providing practical recommendations, particularly leadership training based on positive work attitudes, to sustainably improve harvest performance.

Abstract

The Mucuna bracteata plant has various benefits in the world of oil palm plantations. Apart from being a ground cover plant, Mucuna bracteta is also a source of organic matter in oil palm plantations. The availability of less arable land makes the need to develop Mucuna bracteata cultivation as a benchmark in anticipation of the impact of the increasing availability of arable land in oil palm plantations. A study has been carried out to determine the effect of P fertilizer dose and watering frequency on the growth of Mucuna breacteata, which has been carried out in the Education and Research Garden (KP-2) Akademi Komunitas Perkebunan Yogyakarta which is located in Papringan, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This study uses a factorial design consisting of two factors arranged in a complete random design. The first factor is the application of various doses of P fertilizer consisting of 3 levels, namely a dose of 1.5 g/plant, a dose of 3.0 g/plant, and a dose of 4.5 g/plant. The second factor is the frequency of watering which consists of 2 levels, namely 1 time a day and 1 time 2 times a day. The data of the research results were analyzed with various fingerprints at the real level of 5%. If there is a real difference, it will be continued with a test Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) real level 5%. The results of the study showed that the application of P fertilizer with doses of 1.5 g, 3.0 g, and 4.5 g as well as the frequency of watering 1 time a day and 1 time 2 times a day, showed that the interaction of the two treatments had a real effect on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight of crown, and dry weight of crown. Meanwhile, the parameters of root fresh weight, root dry weight, and total number of root nodules showed no real interaction. However, the interaction of the two treatments has an effect on each treatment alone or separately.
