Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is largely influenced by chronic nutritional deficiencies during the first 1,000 days of life, making maternal knowledge and early prevention essential. Health education plays a key role in shaping maternal behavior regarding feeding practices, childcare, and early stimulation. Digital media such as e-leaflets provide an accessible and practical tool for delivering health information, particularly in community-based settings. Objective: This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers regarding stunting and its prevention through structured health education using lecture methods and e-leaflet media. Method: The program was carried out in collaboration with local midwives and community health volunteers. Activities were delivered in several stages, including preliminary survey, problem analysis, implementation of educational sessions, reporting, and dissemination. The educational intervention consisted of counseling supported by e-leaflets containing key information on stunting, its causes, impacts, and preventive strategies. The target participants were pregnant women and mothers of toddlers, selected based on the needs identified in the area. Result: The activity took place on September 12, 2023, at Posyandu Munjul 1 and involved 28 participants. The session was well-received, with mothers actively engaging in the counseling process. Following the educational intervention, participants demonstrated improved understanding of stunting and appropriate childcare practices. The e-leaflet format was considered helpful in reinforcing the information delivered during the session. Conclusion: Health education using e-leaflets effectively improved maternal knowledge regarding stunting prevention. Strengthening and sustaining similar educational programs is recommended to support long-term improvements in community awareness and child health outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Parenting styles play a crucial role in adolescents’ psychosocial development, including emotional health, social relationships, and cognitive growth. The manner in which parents nurture their children can influence adolescents’ levels of anxiety and depression. Parenting that is authoritative tends to promote better mental health, while an authoritarian style is commonly related to an increased risk of psychological problems. Objective: This systematic review seeks to investigate the impact of various parenting styles authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful on the psychosocial well-being of adolescents. Method: The literature review included studies published from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2024, which were sourced from four different databases: PubMed, ProQuest, JSTOR, and Garuda. The target population was adolescents aged 11 to 19 years. Parenting styles were evaluated using the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ), while mental health outcomes were assessed through various instruments, This included measures such as the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), Multidimensional Psychological Flexibility Inventory (MPFI), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), and the Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument, Version 2 (MAYSI-2), and the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF). Three reviewers independently carried out article screening, data extraction, and quality assessment, following the PRISMA framework. Study quality was further appraised using the CASP checklist. The extracted information included author details, type of intervention, facilitator, research setting, number and length of sessions, as well as the methods or media employed. Result: A total of nine articles involving 2,036 participants were included. The results indicate that parenting styles have a notable influence on adolescents’ psychosocial well-being. Adolescents with authoritative parents showed higher psychological flexibility, whereas those with authoritarian parents experienced increased anxiety, depression, and socio-emotional challenges. Conclusion: The review concludes that authoritative parenting is the most effective approach for promoting adolescents’ psychosocial well-being. It enhances self-esteem and psychological flexibility while lowering anxiety and depression. Parenting education and targeted interventions should therefore be encouraged in clinical practice to foster authoritative parenting and promote adolescents’ mental well-being.

Abstract

Introduction: The postpartum period is a critical phase during which mothers undergo significant physiological and psychological changes that may increase their vulnerability to complications such as perineal wound infections. Perineal injuries remain one of the leading causes of postpartum infection, particularly in developing countries where access to health information and quality midwifery care is limited. Adequate maternal knowledge regarding perineal wound care is essential in preventing infection, promoting healing, and reducing morbidity. However, many postpartum mothers still lack proper understanding of wound care practices due to factors such as limited education, inadequate information sources, and insufficient counseling from healthcare providers. Objective: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers regarding perineal wound care at the Independent Practice of Midwife E, Kalijati District, Subang Regency, in 2025. Method: A descriptive-analytic approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 35 respondents were selected using accidental sampling, and data were collected through structured, validated, and reliable questionnaires. Univariate analysis was conducted to describe respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test examined correlations between variables. Result: The results showed that most respondents were greater than or equal to 25 years old, had intermediate education, were housewives, were multiparous, and primarily received information from healthcare workers. The majority had a fair level of knowledge (48.6%). Significant relationships were found between education level (p = 0.016) and information source (p = 0.027) with knowledge level, while age, occupation, and parity showed no significant associations. Conclusion: In conclusion, education and information sources are key determinants of postpartum mothers knowledge of perineal wound care. Strengthening health education by midwives is essential to enhance maternal understanding, prevent infection, and support optimal postpartum recovery.

Abstract

Introduction: Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) are key indicators of a country's level of public health. One of the leading causes of maternal death during pregnancy and childbirth is Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), which increases the risk of maternal mortality up to 20 times compared to pregnant women with adequate nutrition. In Baregbeg Health Center, Ciamis District, the prevalence of CED remains high, with 75 pregnant women affected in 2024, and a stunting prevalence of 4.75%. This situation is exacerbated by limited public knowledge about CED and stunting, as well as the lack of innovative nutritious food products. Objective: The purpose of this community service was to empower Posyandu cadres and local communities to improve maternal and child nutrition through education on CED and stunting prevention, and by developing an innovative local food product, keripik tapelur (crispy snacks made from tofu, tempeh, and eggs). Method: This public service activity was conducted in Dusun Jelat, Baregbeg Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency, through five stages: problem identification, program planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. Activities included educational sessions using e-leaflets and lectures, training for cadres and community members on making keripik tapelur, and evaluation of knowledge improvement and program sustainability. Result: Health education increased participants’ understanding of CED, stunting, and nutritious food processing. The community successfully produced keripik tapelur as a nutritious and practical complementary food. The product was well received and shows potential for further development as a community-based economic activity. Conclusion: Community empowerment through health education and innovative food processing can be an effective strategy to address CED and stunting. The development of keripik tapelur not only improves nutritional intake but also opens up local economic opportunities. This program supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health and well-being as well as economic growth.
