Abstract

Introduction: People with Type 2 DM (T2DM) tend to experience indirect health risks due to disturbances in aspects of health services and lifestyle during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, information on self-care among people with T2DM during the pandemic is still limited. This study aimed to know the self-care behavior change among T2DM in Kasihan 2 Community health center during the Covid-19 Pandemic.Method: This was a non-experimental study with a cross-sectional approach. An amount as 187 people with T2DM was recruited from a community health center in a rural area by using an accidental sampling technique. We exclude participants who have severe complications and impairment cognitive.  Data were self-report administered by using The Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Measure (SDSCA). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was performed to examine the hypothesis. Results: Our study found that the average Diabetic self-care score before the COVID-19 pandemic was 65,257(±11,22), meanwhile self-care score during the pandemic was 59,15(±11,08). Wilcoxon test for SDSCA total score resulted in z coefficient was -9.596 with the p-value equal to 0.00 (<0.05). Several aspects of Diabetic self-care had a significant difference (p<0.05) between before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as general diet (z=-9.596); special diet (z=-4,836); physical activity (z=-9.629), and blood glucose monitoring (z=-5.760).Conclusions: There was a significant change in diabetic self-care before and during the COVID-19 pandemic especially in the general diet, special diet, physical activity, and blood glucose monitoring among T2DM in Kasihan 2 Community health center.

Abstract

Background: One learning strategy that may develop a self-directed learner is the project-based learning method. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of project-based learning (PjBL) on undergraduate student’s Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and learning creativity. Methods: The study used a non-equivalent control group design, conducted on May 2024. The eligible participants were undergraduate nursing students at 6th semester in Universitas Alma Ata. Control group participants consist of 64 participants and were given traditional lecture (TL), while experiment group consist of 59 participants and were given PjBL by designing flashcard for health promotion in children and family. Self- directed learning was assessed using Self-Directed Learning Instrument, while learning creativity was assessed using a learning creativity questionnaire. The changes on variables were analyzed used Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: Self-directed learning and learning creativity mean score in the PjBL group (79.74 ± 10.98 and 50.47±10.36, respectively) was higher than that of the TL group (75.80 ± 9.55 and 47.58±8.79, respectively) following the intervention. In comparison of scores before and after intervention, PjBL not significantly (p=0.160) increased SDL, while significantly increase learning creativity (p=0.032). In comparison with TL, PjBL has better increase student’s SDL and learning creativity, but only significant on SDL (p=0.038). Conclusion: Project-based learning by designing flashcard is effective in enhancing student creative learning and SDL. Study program was suggested to designing projects that allow students to actively involved in the learning process, develop ideas, and create real products, thereby fostering creativity through hands-on experiences.

Abstract

Introduction: WHO data shows that 15 million babies are born with low birth weight (LBW) each year, and this number continues to rise. The challenge faced is how to improve healthy living behaviors during pregnancy and early detection of pregnancy risks. The issue of low birth weight is very serious and requires handling through strengthening promotional and preventive measures provided to pregnant women. The role of health cadres is also very important as providers of information and community mobilizers. Therefore, there is a need for effective digital-based empowerment methods for health cadres to improve preventive health behaviors against the occurrence of LBW. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of a health promotion intervention model through the participatory empowerment of digital-based health cadres in preventing LBW incidentsMethods: A Quasi-Experimental research design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design involving 70 health cadre respondents (n: 35 in each intervention and control group) using Purposive Sampling technique, with inclusion criteria for cadres who are active; aged between 25 to 49 years; have at least a junior high school education; and possess a smartphone with a strong internet connection. The research instrument consists of a sociodemographic questionnaire, knowledge, attitudes, and the roles of cadres that have been tested for validity and reliability. Educational media in the form of a website-based e-module on the prevention of LBW. Test the normality of the data using the Shapiro-Wilk test and analyze the data using the Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney test, Paired t-Test, and Independent t-Test.Results: The statistical test results indicate a significant effect with knowledge, attitudes, and the role of cadres showing a p-value of 0.000 (p-value<0.05); this means that the digital-based participatory empowerment model for cadres is more effective in improving the behavior of preventing LBW incidents. The Mann-Whitney test results show that the average knowledge in both groups indicates a significant difference, with a mean value of 44.21 in the intervention group being higher than the control group, which has a mean value of 26.79 (p-value=0.000). The Independent t-Test results show that there is no statistically significant difference in the average attitudes and roles of cadres between the intervention and control groups (p-value>0.05).Conclusion: The model of participatory empowerment of cadres through digital-based training activities and cadre mentoring, along with the use of educational media in the form of e-modules, represents an innovation that can be implemented by health workers and cadres in efforts to promote health regarding the prevention of LBW incidents among pregnant women.
