This is a multimodal critical discourse analysis of three Indonesian English language teaching textbooks. The study focused on the representation of the visuals on the cover to describe English as an International Language paradigm in Indonesia. This study was a qualitative study where the data were presented in the form of a narrative story. The researcher also employed themes to answer the research questions. The result showed that the orientation of English language teaching in Indonesia was native-centeredness where correctness was the focus of the process. Meanwhile, the practice would not prepare the student to have cross-cultural communication where English was used as the Lingua Franca. The result was likely to be in accordance with the latest study on Indonesian teachers’ perspective of the EIL paradigm which showed reluctance.

The aim of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of cooperative learning in improving students’ L2 willingness to write in creative writing. To assess the effectiveness of the instrument in the study, classroom action research is the method that will be used to measure in student learning or achievement as a result of an intervention, a pre-test and post-test are commonly used instrument in classroom action research. The study’s finding revealed that the classroom action research group’s L2 willingness to write in creative writing improved significantly after the cycle of cooperative learning instruction. The findings support cooperative learning’s effectiveness in improving students’ L2 willingness to write in creative writing. According to the findings, incorporating cooperative learning into language instruction is a promising approach for improving writing skills in the L2 context. Desa wisata merupakan salah satu tujuan dari Pembangunan Berkelanjutan dengan arah pemberantasan kemiskinan. Desa Wisata memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan, tidak hanya dari potensi alam, tetapi juga dari potensi sumber daya manusia agar memiliki kemampuan di dalam mengelola operasional kegiatan desa sehingga dapat menjadi salah satu pertumbuhan ekonomi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memberikan kegiatan positif yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan masyarakat desa dalam hal pengelolaan desa wisata, diantaranya adalah pelatihan-pelatihan yang berkaitan dengan hygiene dan sanitasi, kebersihan lingkungan, hingga pada pengelolaan sosial media dan pembuatan company profile sebagai salah satu kebutuhan desa wisata agar dapat dipromosikan secara maksimal. Kegiatan ini merupakan salah satu projek desa dengan target peserta adalah masyarakat yang tinggal dan menetap di desa wisata Teluk Mata Ikan, Kecamatan Nongsa, Kelurahan Sambau. Hasil dari kegiatan ini, masyarakat lebih mengenal terkait hygiene dan sanitasi, hingga pentingnya pemanfaatan sosial media agar dapat memperkenalkan desa wisata teluk mata ikan kepada seluruh turis baik yang ada di kota Batam, maupun dari luar Batam.

This study explores the development of English-language digital instructional modules tailored for personnel in the safety divisions of oil and gas industries. Focusing on the difficulties faced with English-language reading comprehension, the researchers crafted a comprehensive English instructional module, comprising the module content itself alongside ten varied quiz formats. Having been developed, the module was subjected to expert evaluation, with end-users offering insights into both the instructional content and quizzes during the implementation phase. Findings indicate that this digital format holds potential for field deployment; however, certain users continue to experience challenges in comprehending reading material while completing quizzes. Digital module developed also has easiness according to participants and therefore it can be developed further for another set of skills or different registers.

As times change, the education curriculum in Indonesia has undergone many modifications, with the latest being the Kurikulum Merdeka. This curriculum is a government response aimed at addressing the decline in meaningful learning during the pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic phases. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka in the English language subject at a private elementary school in Batam City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through classroom observations and interviews with teachers. The results indicate that the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka at the school is not yet fully realized, particularly in terms of applying student-centered learning. On the first day, teaching methods were still predominantly teacher-centered, although there was an increase in interaction between students and teachers on the second day. Additionally, this study found that teachers hold a positive view of the curriculum but face several challenges, such as inadequate facilities and resources, as well as difficulties in student adaptation. This study suggests the need for adequate teacher training and the provision of supportive facilities to enhance the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. Furthermore, further research is needed to explore specific strategies to address these challenges and improve student learning outcomes. By gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and factors affecting the implementation of this curriculum, it is hoped that targeted intervention strategies can be developed to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.

In the realm of language education, the influence of governmental regulations on language programs is substantial, as evidenced by Indonesia’s regulatory framework in Law No. 20/2003. This study examines Foreign Language Teaching Anxiety (FLTA) among pre-service English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers during their teaching practicum, focusing on the role of fear of negative evaluation, self-perception of language proficiency, and teaching inexperience. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, quantitative surveys were conducted with 68 respondents, and qualitative interviews were held with five participants in the Kepulauan Riau area. Results from statistical analyses, including regression, indicate that FLTA has a modest impact on the teaching experience of pre-service teachers. Thematic analyses from qualitative data provide deeper insights into the nuanced interplay of factors contributing to FLTA. The discussion highlights the study’s contributions to the field, advocating for the importance of practical teaching experience, mentorship, and adaptive teaching approaches to mitigate FLTA. This comprehensive approach underscores the necessity of addressing anxiety to enhance the competence and confidence of pre-service English teachers, ultimately contributing to more effective language education.

Speaking skill becomes a very important issue in second language acquisition. Among the four English skills being developed, speaking is crucial for students. Speaking anxiety is one of the burdens experienced by the students so that the exploration of the willingness to communicate is needed to maintain the problem. Moreover, in the Indonesian context, English is still a second/ foreign language so that when the student is required to speak in public using English the problem will be double. This research discussed the implementation of Sidang Akademi (Academic Preliminary Meeting) in a private Senior High School in Central Java as an obligatory activity for the students. This research employs a qualitative study specifically a case study. The result of the study presents that the implementation of the activity causes the student to experience speaking anxiety caused by many factors. There are also some ways in managing speaking performance conducted by the student in the implementation of the activity.

The idea of the new varieties of English produced by many people using English as a lingua franca divides its speakers into three circles; they are inner, outer, and expanding circles. Thus, this study emphasizes the student teachers' perception of the presented phenomena and the practicality of the inclusion of World Englishes as the material taught in the classroom context. The research participants of this study are the student teachers (STs) who the school adapts both national and/ or international curricula as the basis of the teaching and learning process in class. This study employs a qualitative research method. Data triangulation is performed in the study to meet research validity and reliability. In general, STs show a positive attitude toward the concept. Despite their positive view on the concept, there is a lack of effort in practice to introduce students to teaching material that contains WE/ EIL content. It is still a challenge in incorporating this diversity into the classroom in Indonesia, both in national and international schools, as the curriculum and teaching resources remain focused on the inner-circle-country variety. The further pedagogical implementation of ELT is necessary to incorporate a more pluricentric view of English. Moreover, curriculum developers and teacher educators need to advance ELT pedagogy by providing more exposure of varieties to foster enhanced intercultural communication and awareness in language education.
