Abstract

Food MSMEs play a strategic role in the local economy by sustaining household entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and supporting regional economic continuity. This study analyzes the entrepreneurial characteristics and business development capacity of food MSMEs in Semarang City based on owner gender, age, education, business form, business age, employment size, and geographic distribution. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the study draws on secondary data from 3,506 business units. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, and chi-square tests. The findings show that most businesses are owned by women, operate as sole proprietorships, and employ only 0-1 workers. The average owner age is 49.96 years, while the average business has operated for 11.61 years. Statistically significant but weak associations were found between owner gender and employment size, owner education and employment size, and owner education and business duration. The study concludes that Semarang's food MSME ecosystem is supported largely by mature household-based microenterprises but still faces limitations in scaling labor capacity.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Klipang, Sendangmulyo, Semarang, in developing brand identity through logo design and digital branding. The program involved 30 MSME owners from various business sectors and adopted a participatory approach combined with Design Thinking. The activities were implemented in three stages: preparation, a three-day training program, and a week of mentoring. The program covered brand identity, brand value, logo design, brand story development, simple website development, Google Business Profile, and digital marketing. The results showed improvements across all indicators. The proportion of MSMEs with professional logos increased from 20% to 100%, consistent visual identity from 15% to 100%, brand story ownership from 5% to 100%, social media use for branding from 40% to 90%, and digital marketing understanding from 30% to 85%. Participant satisfaction reached at least 90%. These findings indicate that integrating Design Thinking, brand identity development, and digital branding is effective in strengthening MSME professionalism, product differentiation, and readiness to compete in the digital business environment.

Abstract

Creative micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) often recognize the value of innovation yet struggle to translate creative ideas into coherent business models because execution requires capabilities beyond creativity itself. This study examines whether perception of creativepreneurship and basic business capability predict creativepreneurship readiness, and whether readiness predicts innovative business model quality among creative and potentially creative MSMEs in Semarang, Indonesia. A cross-sectional survey yielded 102 responses; 78 complete cases met the prespecified eligibility criteria and were analyzed using PLS-SEM in SmartPLS 4 with 2,000 bootstrap subsamples. Basic business capability was strongly associated with readiness (β = 0.631, p < 0.001), while perception showed a smaller but positive directional association (β = 0.213, t = 1.907, one-tailed p = 0.028). Readiness strongly predicted innovative business model quality (β = 0.784, p < 0.001). The model explained 59.7% of readiness variance and 61.5% of business-model variance, with positive Q² values. The findings indicate that favorable perceptions are most useful when supported by practical routines in digital marketing, finance, operations, networking, storytelling, and business-model experimentation. Because the design is cross-sectional and some construct content overlaps, the coefficients are interpreted as predictive associations rather than causal effects.
