Abstract

The popularity of celebrities is quantified as capital for political parties to win the competition in the regional election contestation simultaneously in November 2024. The method which later became a model for political parties to win the contest continues to be reproduced every time before the political event. Popularity is considered to be able to increase profitable opportunities amidst public ignorance of politicians or regional head candidates. The emergence of celebrities on the political scene is nominated to increase popularity without considering their ability to lead and solve social problems currently facing society. In consideration of political parties only victory. Other calculations regarding electability can be resolved through the massification of information via social media about prospective candidates. Based on this background, the aim of the research is to understand the popularity and victory of political parties in regional election contestations. The method used is media content analysis with a qualitative approach. This aims to understand the phenomena behind the visible symptoms. The research results show that popularity must be accompanied by electability as a provision for contestation. To develop these two staff, they must communicate intensively both through direct meetings and through communication media.

Abstract

In an era when information does not only come from journalists, but also from various media platforms and even from ordinary people, there is a lot that we consider as "information". Sometimes there is so much, we ignore and get lost in the truth of the information. Now there is the internet and social media, now printed newspapers are not the main source for citizens to obtain information. However, there is a principle that the Jawa Pos newspaper carries out, namely the educational function carried out by the Jawa Pos newspaper to prevent the spread of hoaxes with the rubric "Hoax or Not". This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to the "Hoax or Not" column of the Jawa Pos newspaper. Mass media can play a role in educating the public about the importance of media literacy and how to recognize false information. This includes providing guidance on how to check sources, recognize bias, and evaluate the credibility of news stories. This research concludes that the “Hoax or Not” column can maintain high standards of ethical journalism, such as not publishing unverified information or refraining from sensationalism, building trust with their audience and positioning themselves as a reliable source of information. In the current context, it helps reduce the spread of false information and increases public literacy awareness about the importance of fact verification.

Abstract

The year 2024 is the year of the party as well as the stake of democracy in Indonesia, because in this year the presidential and legislative elections will be held. Ahead of the elections, the mainstream media and social media have provided many issues related to the 2024 elections so that the polarization of opinion in Indonesian society is getting stronger. This polarization divides the public into several groups supporting each candidate pair, namely groups supporting Anis-Muhaimin (AMIN), Prabowo-Gibran and Ganjar-Mahfud. This polarization is also supported by various efforts made by the three groups of candidate pairs, including the change movement carried by Anies-Muhaimin, continuing Jokowi's program carried by the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair and accelerating towards superior Indonesia carried by the Ganjar-Mahfud candidate pair. However, there is a narrative being spread in the community related to the 2024 presidential election, namely dynastic politics, where it seems that there is an imposition of will from Jokowi to pass his son Gibran to become a vice presidential candidate to accompany Prabowo Subianto. This movement is very active in discussing and spreading narratives on social media. This study sought to explore and compare the polarization of opinions that developed in society through social media. This research uses a qualitative approach using the virtual ethnography method. The results show that the polarization of opinion that occurs on social media is not as significant as the polarization of opinion on social media.

Abstract

The perspective of human relations with nature is understood as a reciprocal relationship that should be mutually beneficial. However, humans often only act, appreciate and protect it after the natural environment is difficult to obtain or access. As a follow-up to environmental sustainability efforts, the SDGs concept is applied to sustainable architectural design, one of which is in the development of parks in urban areas. Neighborhood parks are a type of green open space that are often found in residential areas in the city of Bandung.Despite its insignificant size, neighborhood parks are able to play a greater role in influencing the surrounding environment both from an ecological, economic and social interaction perspective. However, the existence of these parks does not necessarily indicate the existence of an environmental sustainability concept. This research intends to examine what design concepts influence the environment, and the extent to which this influence has an impact on environmental sustainability.Using descriptive qualitative methods with main data from observation and literature review, it is hoped that it will be able to provide a complete, systematic picture and provide an appropriate interpretation of existing facts. The case example takes two neighborhood parks located in the city of Bandung, namely Superhero Park and Arcamanik Endah Park, which were selected based on several criteria including accessibility factors, area size, public facilities and services, and post-pandemic development factors that show positive trends towards sustainability environmental aspects. From the observations, it was found that there were indications of the design concept as a catalyst which showed an influence on the sustainability of the surrounding environment

Abstract

Rice plant diseases significantly affect crop productivity and food security, making early and accurate disease detection essential for effective agricultural management. Recent advances in deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), have demonstrated strong potential in image-based plant disease classification. This study presents a comparative analysis of the performance of VGG16 and ResNet50 architectures for multi-class classification of rice plant diseases using CNN-based approaches. A dataset of rice leaf images representing multiple disease classes and healthy conditions was collected and preprocessed through image resizing, normalization, and data augmentation to enhance model generalization. Both pre-trained models were fine-tuned using transfer learning to adapt them to the rice disease classification task. Model performance was evaluated using standard metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix analysis. The experimental results show that both architectures achieve high classification performance; however, ResNet50 demonstrates superior accuracy and better generalization capability compared to VGG16, particularly in handling complex disease patterns and intra-class variations. Meanwhile, VGG16 offers a simpler architecture with faster convergence and lower computational complexity. The findings of this study provide insights into the selection of appropriate CNN architectures for rice plant disease classification and support the development of intelligent decision support systems in precision agriculture.

Abstract

The welfare of the village community is built through the communication skills of village empowerment cadres (KPMD). As informal officers recruited from community potential, the cadres work as catalysts connecting the village government with village residents. The relationship between cadres and villagers is mainly related to the delivery and implementation of various programs aimed at all villagers. With these roles and duties, the cadres have a very strategic position. Its existence is a driving force that encourages and awakens villagers to participate in the implementation of village community development programs. Given the importance of the role and position of village cadres, lecturers of Communication Studies at the National University of Indonesia (UKRI) conduct community service which aims to provide communication skills to Kertamulya village cadres, Padalarang District, West Bandung Regency, so that all government programs can be understood and conveyed to all villagers. With the lecture and discussion method, it is possible to identify and solve various problems that arise with regard to the communication of cadres. The PkM results show that the cadres gain applied knowledge that can be used in carrying out all the tasks assigned.

Abstract

Attention to national values and insight has almost disappeared among the majority of residents of Gudangkahuripan village, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency (KBB). In their daily lives, residents are more focused on meeting daily consumption needs than increasing and honing their knowledge of national insight. The only knowledge they ever acquired about national insight was during elementary and secondary school. After graduating, some continued on to college, while most focused on finding work. From that point on, they were almost no longer connected to national symbols and terms. Likewise, refresher courses on national values and insight in the form of seminars, meetings, or discussions were almost never received. Starting from this condition, Community Service (PkM) lecturers and students of the Communication Science Study Program (Prodi Ilkom) of the National University of the Republic of Indonesia (UKRI) were directed to revitalize knowledge of national insight among the residents of Gudang Kahuripan village. The approach used was a lecture method by communicating the elements, components, mission and vision, and goals of nationality. PkM succeeded in raising awareness and interest among Gudangkahuripan villagers to trace the essence and identity as citizens of the nation. Awareness also occurs regarding the position of citizens as part of the digital world cycle.

Abstract

The digital space can be utilized for various purposes. For empowerment goals, it can be used to enhance capabilities, improve quality, or boost community competencies. The same applies to business actors. The great benefits of the digital space are accessible to all without discrimination based on business scale or level—from conglomerate-class businesses, MSME-scale enterprises, to micro-level individual ventures, all have equal opportunities to leverage the digital space. Problems with digital tool usage arise when micro-level individual business actors remain unaware of the digital space's benefits. This is the background for the Community Service (PkM) activities conducted by lecturers and students from the Communication Science program at the National Republic of Indonesia University (Ilkom UKRI) in Madalajati Subdistrict, Bandung City. The PkM aims to provide knowledge and enhance skills for micro-sector business actors in accessibility and trading activities transformed into digital networks. To achieve this, the method used is lectures based on specific themes related to basic digital tool usage skills. PkM results show that residents' knowledge improved after receiving in-depth, comprehensive explanations on digitalization, and even commitments emerged to link their trading activities by first accessing digital networks
