Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine whether there is a significant effect of using Blogger on students' achievement in writing recount text. This study was conducted using an experimental research design with two groups. The population in this research was all the 8th grade students of SMP Taman Siswa Tanjung Sari Medan. There were two parallel classes namely 8-1 and 8-2, each class consisted of 30 students and the total of samples was 60 students. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling with Lottery Technique. Class 8-1 was selected as the experimental group and class 8-2 was selected as the control group. The experimental group was taught using Blogger while the control group was taught using paper based. The instrument used in this research was a writing test consisting of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the t_count value was greater than the t_table value (2.50 > 2.00) with the degree of freedom (df) = 58 at the significance level α = 0.05. This means that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was successfully accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was successfully rejected. Therefore it can be concluded that the using Blogger has a significant effect on students' achievement in writing recount text.

This study aims to explore the role of academic supervision in improving teachers’ professionalism at Mawaridussalam Islamic Boarding School. Academic supervision at Mawaridussalam Islamic Boarding School possesses distinct characteristics and is implemented systematically, differing significantly from public schools and several other Islamic boarding schools that have not yet adopted a similar system. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with a case study design, involving several individuals as informants, including the Head of the Boarding School, the Head of the Education Department, the KMI (Kulliyatul Muallimin Al-Islamiyah) Division, and other related parties. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis related to the implementation of academic supervision. Based on the findings, academic supervision plays a significant role in enhancing teachers’ professionalism at Mawaridussalam Islamic Boarding School, particularly in teaching skills, pedagogy, discipline, and self-development. This serves as an innovative model to be applied in public schools and other Islamic boarding schools in an effort to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. Therefore, this research is expected to serve as a reference for developing more effective implementation of such programs in educational institutions and to provide insights for administrative staff in formal education institutions to improve teachers’ professionalism.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using the ELSA Speak Application integrated with the demonstration method on students' pronunciation practice. Pronunciation is an essential aspect of English language teaching that directly influences speaking ability, yet many students face challenges due to native language interference and lack of oral exposure. This research was conducted at SMP Plus Nusantara Medan involving 12 seventh-grade students selected through a purposive sampling technique. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected from the results of students' pre-test and post-test scores, which were then analyzed using statistical tests. Before hypothesis testing, normality and homogeneity tests were conducted, showing that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The result of the paired t-test showed a p-value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is significantly smaller than the significance level (α=0.050). It was obtained that the t-statistical value was higher than the table t-value (43.203 > 2.201). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0 ) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha ) was accepted. The findings demonstrate that the ELSA Speak Application integrated with the demonstration method significantly improved students' pronunciation practice. This approach is recommended as an effective teaching strategy to enhance students' phonetic skills.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of animated videos integrated with Scenario-Based Learning (SBL) on the speaking proficiency of Grade X students at SMA Negeri 17 Medan during the 2025/2026 academic year. Speaking proficiency is frequently recognized as a significant challenge for high school students, necessitating innovative pedagogical approaches to effectively foster student engagement and skill acquisition in modern classrooms. The study employed a quantitative true experimental design featuring a pre-test and post-test control group structure. The population comprised parallel Grade X classes, from which 30 students were meticulously selected through a random sampling technique. This sample was divided into an experimental group (n=15), taught using animated videos integrated with SBL, and a control group (n=15), receiving conventional instruction. Speaking proficiency was assessed through oral performance tests evaluating pronunciation, fluency, accuracy, and vocabulary.Data analysis conducted using a paired samples t-test revealed significant improvements across both groups. The experimental group’s mean score rose from 62.7 to 88.1, while the control group’s score increased from 59.4 to 76.1. Testing yielded a t-value of 7.491, exceeding the t-table value of 2.145 (df=14) with a significance value (p) of 0.000. These results indicate that the integration of animated videos with SBL exerts a statistically significant positive effect on students' speaking proficiency. The findings suggest that this integrated approach creates an engaging, interactive, and meaningful environment. By providing contextualized scenarios through visual media, students can better internalize linguistic components. Consequently, this instructional strategy is recommended as an effective tool for educators to enhance communicative competence.
