Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out if Prediction Strategy significantly affected students’ achievement in listening comprehension. The design applied in this research was experimental research design. This research was conducted at SMK Teladan Indrapura Batubara. The population of this research was 70 students from the two parallel classes; X TKJ-1 and X TKJ-2. Random sampling technique was employed in taking the sample and 60 students were chosen as the sample. X TKJ-1 was selected as the experimental group and X TKJ-2 was selected as the control group. The experimental group was taught by using Prediction Strategy while the control group was taught by conventional strategy. The instrument used to collect the data was multiple-choice test consisted of 40 items. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. After the data analysis, it was obtained tobserved value was higher than that of ttable (6.13 > 2.00) with the degree of freedom df = 58 at the level of significance α = 0.05. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In conclusion, Prediction Strategy significantly affected students’ achievement in listening comprehension.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk memperkaya dan memperluas pengalaman guru-guru dalam penggunaan aplikasi digital pembelajaran daring untuk menudukung kegiatan pembelajaran selama masa pandemi. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan penggunaan beberapa aplikasi digital seperti mentimeter, socrative, dan quizzes. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru-guru yang diberikan pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi digital dapat mengeksplorasi penggunaan aplikasi tersebut dengan baik dan membantu mereka dalam mempersiapkan materi pembelajaran yang lebih menarik perhatian siswa.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk(1) menguji coba apakah model pembelajaran Blended Learning berbasis aplikasi Renderforest dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa MAS Yaspi Labuhan Deli (2) melihat bagaimana aktivitas siswa selama pembelajaran menggunakan Model pembelajaran Blended Learning berbasis Aplikasi Renderforest . Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X MA tahun pelajaran 2020/2021 di MAS Yaspi Labuhan Deli. Secara acak, dipilih dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian, yaitu 30 orang dikelas X1 dan 30 orang dikelas X2 MAS Yaspi Labuhan Deli. Kelas eksperimen diberi perlakuan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Blended Learning berbasis Aplikasi Renderforest dan kelas kontrol diberi perlakuan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi experiment). Desain Penelitian meliputi tiga tahapan, yaitu: (1) Tahap pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran dan instrumen penelitian, (2) Tahap uji coba perangkat pembelajaran dan instrumen penelitian, dan (3). Instrumen yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian adalah tes membaca pemahaman untuk siswa MA kelas X. Data dihitung menggunakan SPSS versi 21 menunjukkan tabel output "Paired Samples Test" pada bagian "Pair" diketahui nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,000 0,05, maka sebagaimana dasar pengambilan keputusan dalam uji Paired Samples Test dapat disimpulkan bahwa ditolak dan diterima. Hal ini menandakan bahwa Blended Learning berbasis aplikasi Renderforest secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan Membaca Pemahaman Pada Siswa MAS Yaspi Labuhan Deli.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui problematika penggunaan Google Classroom sebagai sarana pembelajaran akibat pandemi Covid-19 terhadap motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris mahasiswa FKIP UNIVA Medan serta untuk mengetahui upaya dalam menghadapi problematika penggunaan Google Classroom sebagai sarana pembelajaran akibat pandemi Covid19 terhadap motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris mahasiswa FKIP UNIVA Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia dan mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Matematika semester II. Data diperoleh dengan metode observasi, kuesioner/angket, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Kuesioner/angket dalam bentuk google form yang akan dikirim ke wa grup mahasiswa, wawancara yang akan dilakukan melalui google form yang akan dikirim melalui grup wa mahasiswa, juga wawancara daring kepada dosen-dosen pengampu mata kuliah juga Kaprodi. Analisis data meliputi tahap reduksi data, tahap penyajian data, dan tahap penarikan kesimpulan. Pengecekan keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) problematika yang bersifat internal meliputi mahasiswa kesulitan mengoperasikan Google Classroom seperti mengubah file video dalam bentuk link, terdapat mahasiswa yang yang kurang memahami materi yang diberikan dosen, mahasiswa sulit interaktif di pembelajaran daring melalui Google Classroom. Problematika yang bersifat eksternal berupa orang tua kurang memantau mahasiswa ketika pembelajaran daring, signal internet yang buruk, dan kuota internet yang terbatas. (2) Upaya yang dilakukan Kaprodi adalah mensosialisasikan penggunaan Google Classroom, menggunakan pembelajaran yang bervariasi dengan menyisipkan video, Dosen juga melakukan upaya agar mahasiswa paham materi yang diberikan dengan memberikan penjelasan lanjutan di grup mahasiswa, menyajikan pembelajaran dengan dua Bahasa, Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris. Disamping itu mahasiswa juga melakukan usaha memahami materi yang kurang dipahami dengan menerjemahkan materi yang diberikan dengan google translate, membaca materi yang diberikan berulang kali, menanyakan materi yang kurang dipahami kepada dosen atau teman, mencari referensi bacaan lain selain yang diberikan di Google Classroom melalui Google, buku-buku Bahasa Inggris, dan lain sebagainya. Tingkat motivasi belajar Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran daring melalui Google Classroom tinggi dengan frekuensi 37 dengan persentase 62,7%.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the strategies employed by the students in listening class. Listening is one skill that highly complicated, started from receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating, and responding to what they hear. It becomes a problem to the students especially in an EFL classroom. Sometimes the students are discouraged to this situation. To overcome the problems, one of the solutions is employing the strategies of listening. The research subject were the students of first semester who take Listening for General Communication subject. Data were collected by questionnaire It consisted of 24 questions for metacognitive strategy, cognitive strategy, and socio-affective strategy. It adapted from Listening Comprehension Strategy Inventory (LCSI). The results showed that metacognitive strategy (50,4%) was the most strategy frequently employed by the students. The second strategy was cognitive strategies (33,0%), and the last was socio-affective strategies (16,6%).

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know whether there is a significant effect of Text Twist Game toward students' English vocabulary mastery at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah academic year 2020-2021. The research methodology applied was quasi experimental design. In this research, the population was the tenth grade students of MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah. The sample consisted of two classes, namely experimental class consisting of 18 students and control class consisting of 18 students. In experimental class, Text Twist Game was used to teach vocabulary while in control class was applied translation technique. The treatments were held in 3 meetings for each class. In collecting the data, the instrument used was in the form of multiple choice questions which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument was given in pre-test and post-test. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS to compute independent sample t-test. Based on the data analysis computed by using SPSS, it was obtained that Sig.= 0.000 and α = 0.05. It means Ha was accepted because Sig.< α = 0.000< 0.05. Therefore, it was concluded that there was a significant effect of Text Twist Game towards students’ vocabulary mastery of English of the tenth grade students at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain empirical evidence about the application of the Flipped Classroom learning method in improving students' speaking skills and how students perceive learning using the Flipped Classroom learning method. This research is a quasi-experimental study with the research population of class XI students at MAS Al Washliyah 12 Perbaungan. Two classes were randomly selected from the school as the research sample, namely 35 students in class XI.2 as the control class and 35 students in class XI.1 as the experimental class. The experimental class was given treatment with the Flipped Classroom model and the control class was treated with conventional learning. The instruments used were speaking tests and questionnaires for MA students in class XI. The data were calculated using SPSS version 26. The results showed that (1) there was a significant difference between the posttest results of the experimental class students and the control class students. This is evidenced by the test results which show the significance of the final score in the experimental class 0.040 lower than 0.05 or can be formulated with 0.040 <0.05. This means that there is a significant difference in the final score between the control class and the experimental class; (2) students are happy with the application of Flipped Classroom, motivated, easier to speak in English, helped in speaking English, and can learn anywhere and anytime.

Abstract

Presidential debate is one of an interesting examples to be analyzed in terms of politeness strategies. This research analyzed the politeness strategies used by the presidential candidates of Indonesia in a presidential debate program during the election period in 2019. This research employed qualitative descriptive. The data were in the form of spoken utterances which were collected from the debate participants. The sources of the data in this research were the videos and transcripts of the second and the fourth presidential debates taken from youtube and google. The data were analyzed using data condensation, data displayed, drawing and verifying conclusion. The results of the research showed that the presidential candidates used several types of politeness strategies and realizations of politeness. There were four types of politeness strategies found in the debates; they were Bald-On Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off Record. In realizations of politeness strategies, there were 30 sub-strategies realized in the second debate and 33 sub-strategies realized in the fourth debate. Positive Politeness was found as the dominant strategy since the candidates wanted to omit any gaps, give good sense, choose words selectively and convey their campaign.

Abstract

This study dealt with critical discourse analysis of SBY’s international speech text. The objective of this study was to describe social cognition, ideology, and social context used by SBY in his international speech. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were taken from SBY’s international speech text. The texts were analyzed by using Van Dijk’s discourse analysis concept by classifiying the elements of the text into Van Dijk’s table. Based on the study, it was found that the social cognition used was the event social cognition, ideology used was the ideology of Pancasila democracy, and the social context used was the diction in accordance with the social status of the invited guests. It could be concluded that the diction chosen by SBY was adjusted to the social status of the guests who were present in the 19th ASEAN Summit and also represented interests of people.

Abstract

This study discussed the speech function in SMS broadcast. The objective of the study was to find out the types of speech function and the dominant type used in SMS broadcast. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The sources of the data were taken randomly from the SMS broadcast in TELKOMSEL collected from December 2018 until May 2019 and there were 25 SMS broadcast. The data were classified based on the types of speech function. Based on the findings, it was found that they were 58 speech function occurred such as Command (19 or 32.76%), Statement (25 or 43.10%), Question (2 or 3.45%), and Offer (12 or 20.69%). The most dominant type of speech function was Statement. This result showed that the most dominant type occurred type was due to the fact that the provider (TELKOMSEL) should deal with the customers’ demand to provide them goods or services or the customers should follow the program provided by the service provider.
