Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the menstrual cycle and anxiety with physical performance in pencak silat athletes. This study used a correlational design with a sample of 30 pencak silat athletes. Data were collected using the Menstrual Disturbance Questionnaire (MEDI-Q) to measure menstrual disorders, the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 questionnaire to measure anxiety, and a physical condition test. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test for bivariate relationships and multiple correlation tests to examine the relationship between the two independent variables and physical condition. The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that both menstrual disorders (p = 0.259) and anxiety (p = 0.802) had a significant effect. The multiple correlation test showed a Sig. F Change value of 0.529 (p > 0.05), indicating that the overall multiple correlation analysis was not statistically significant, with no significant relationship with physical performance. In conclusion, this study offers a new perspective in understanding the complexity of factors influencing the physical performance of pencak silat athletes. Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Physical literacy is crucial for the mental health and quality of life of university sports students, yet a research gap exists in understanding how these constructs interact through a gender-sensitive lens, particularly within sports education programs where psychological distress is rising despite high physical competence. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical literacy, mental health, and quality of life among sports students, considering the role of gender as a covariate. The research design used is quantitative with a descriptive correlational approach. Method: The research sample consisted of 211 students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Education, Indonesia University of Education. The instruments used included the Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument (PPLI), Short Mental Health Scale (SKM-12), and WHOQOL-BREF. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, multiple regression, and ANCOVA. Result: The results show that the average scores for physical literacy, mental health, and quality of life are in the moderate to high range with a normal and homogeneous data distribution. Multiple regression analysis shows that mental health has a significant effect on quality of life (B = 1.217; p < 0.001), while physical literacy has no significant effect (B = 0.171; p = 0.072). Simultaneously, both variables were able to explain 52.6% of the variation in students' quality of life (R² = 0.526; p < 0.001). ANCOVA analysis confirmed that the effect of mental health remained significant after controlling for gender, while physical literacy and gender differences were not significant. Conclusion: These findings indicate that mental health is the primary predictor of student athletes' quality of life, while physical literacy plays a more supportive role. Intervention recommendations focus on strengthening mental health integrated with improving physical literacy to comprehensively support student athletes' well-being.

Abstract

Background: In the past years, Esport has been a phenomenon. It lies in a discussion of whether accepting esport as a part of sport categories or not. In fact, many argue about this because it has an impact on the physical activity and lifestyle of the players. This study focuses on the analysis of physical activity and lifestyle of esport athletes competing in annual sporting events throughout Indonesia. Method: In this study data collected from 50 athletes consisting of all men. The measurement method used in measuring the level of physical activity is the International Physical Activities Questionnaire (IPAQ). Result: From the completed questionnaire, it was found that the level of physical activity of the athletes reached 3120.2 (± 24.3) METs. This figure shows that athletes are still included in the category of high physical activity. Conclusion: The average level of physical activity of esport athletes is in the high category.

Abstract

The expanding popularity of Pencak Silat, particularly in the full-contact sparring category, exposes athletes to significant injury risks caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors, including the implementation of complex new regulations. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of these rules by referees is critical to mitigate injuries and prioritize athlete safety. This study aims to analyze the incidence of injuries among pencak silat athletes participating in the Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Daerah, a regional multi-event Regional Student Sports Week in Indonesia at the district level in the regencies of Banyumas, Cilacap, Purbalingga, and Banjarnegara, Central Java Province. This study employed a cross-sectional survey design, involving 142 adolescent pencak silat athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire adapted from Fuller et al and supplemented by interviews to validate responses. The questionnaire focused on athlete demographics, injury characteristics, and affected body regions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency distribution and percentage calculations, to provide an empirical overview of injury patterns and incidence rates. The majority of injuries occurred during training sessions (87%) rather than competitions (27%). Chronic injuries were more prevalent (85%) compared to acute injuries (15%). The lower extremities were the most affected body parts (77%), particularly the knee (26%), ankle (24%), and hip (24%). Pencak silat athletes are more prone to chronic injuries, particularly in the lower extremities. Injury prevention efforts should focus on proper warm-up routines, injury education, and enhancing technical skills to minimize injury risks during both training and competition. Keywords: pencak silat, sports injuries, injury assessment, injury prevention.

Abstract

The sense of responsibility to educate students as "whole people" which lies on the shoulders of all higher education managers, sports programs will continue to have strategic programs in the higher education system in Indonesia. Therefore, researchers conducted a normative and juridical literature review to examine sports in higher education. The results of this review indicate that Article 35 (3) of the Higher Education Curriculum Law No. 12 of 2012 concerning sports higher education is needed to be used as a compulsory subject in higher education. Overall, this review provides an appropriate reference point for further research by identifying the need for research in the aspect of sports needs, especially making sports a compulsory subject in college as a form of realizing a whole human being. However, there are weaknesses and inequalities in several aspects. This research is a novelty in the study of sports policy analysis in Indonesia.
