Abstract

Fear of failure is an emotional reaction that causes fear when in a situation that might cause failure. The phenomenon of fear of failure can be related to mindfulness, where mindfulness can reduce fear of failure. This study aims to determine the relationship between mindfulness and fear of failure in students who are working on a thesis at Padang State University. This study uses a correlational quantitative research design. The targets of this study were students who were working on a thesis at Padang State University using proportional sampling technique totalling 236 people. The mindfulness measuring instrument in this study used The Kentucky Inventory of Mindfulness Skills (KIMS) and the fear of failure scale using the Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory (PFAI). Based on the data analysis that has been done, the correlation value is obtained r = -0.298 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates that there is a significant negative relationship between mindfulness and fear of failure of students who are working on their thesis at Padang State University.

Abstract

Vernonia elaeagnifolia, also known as Vernonia elliptica, is a member of the Asteraceae family and is known to contain phenol and flavonoid compounds. The study examining the activity of these active compounds in this plant is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical profile, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of V. elaeagnifolia leaves. Phytochemical screening was conducted using tube tests, while TPC and TFC were measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminium chloride colorimetric methods, respectively. Antioxidant activity was assessed using ABTS and DPPH assays. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols in the methanolic extract. Quantitative analysis showed that TPC and TFC values were 81.26 ± 0.62 mg GAE/g and 54.02 ± 0.70 mg QE/g, respectively. The extract showed moderate antioxidant activity, with IC50 values of 139.81 ± 0.62 µg/mL (ABTS) and 166.62 ± 3.72 µg/mL (DPPH), which were significantly different. These findings suggest that the ABTS assay is more effective in evaluating the antioxidant activity of V. elaeagnifolia leaf extract compared to the DPPH assay, and V. elaeagnifolia leaves have potential as a source of natural antioxidants. Further isolation and characterization of active compounds are recommended

Abstract

A prevalent issue among the elderly is cognitive deterioration. Modifications in behavior and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle have been demonstrated to mitigate cognitive decline in the elderly. The objective of community service initiatives is to disseminate knowledge regarding cognitive health in the elderly and to offer brain workouts to the community, particularly targeting women who are PKK activists in Mliwis Village. This community service initiative employs an instructional methodology that incorporates PowerPoint presentations and leaflets, utilizing a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The event took place at the Posyandu Sidorejo in Mliwis Village, Boyolali. The target audience for this activity was PKK mothers in Mliwis Village, Boyolali Regency, Central Java. To measure the level of knowledge about cognitive health, a questionnaire developed by the community service team was used. This activity consisted of six stages, namely opening, pretest, education, group brain exercises, discussion, and post-test. 51 participants, comprising PKK mothers, attended this activity. The most extensive age range was 31-40 years old, with 16 (31.4%) participants, and the largest occupation was housewife, with 36 (70.6%) participants. The education and discussion activities went well. The enthusiasm of the participants also increased with the joint brain exercises. The average pretest and posttest scores were 90.26 ± 10.78 and 93.68 ± 7.50, respectively. There was a significant difference in knowledge between the pretest and post-test measurements (p = 0.034; < 0.05). It is hoped that this educational activity will help form independent and happy elderly people.

Abstract

Hypertension and nutrition are more health problems that are priorities to be addressed. Complications of hypertension can cause health problems later in life and can cause death. Nutrition is a risk factor for hypertension. For this reason, it is necessary to prevent this problem at the Colomadu Community Health Center. The aim of this activity is to increase the knowledge of posyandu cadres about hypertension and better nutrition so that early prevention can be carried out. The method of activity carried out is by providing outreach and education about preventing overnutrition and hypertension with a healthy lifestyle. This activity was carried out in 2 villages, namely in Bolon Village and Baturan Village, Colomadu District, Karanganyar Regency. This activity was attended by posyandu cadres in the 2 villages. This activity was carried out in conjunction with routine meetings of posyandu cadres in Bolon Village and Baturan Village. In Bol on Village, counseling was carried out on preventing overnutrition with balanced nutrition, which was carried out using the FGD (Focus Group Discussion) method, while in Baturan Village it was carried out in conjunction with a meeting of village posyandu cadres at Siaga Sejahtera Sejahtera (DS3). The cadres were very enthusiastic in participating in the FGD and also asked questions about the material presented. This activity can increase understanding about preventing overnutrition and hypertension. It is hoped that this activity can be passed on to the community in a sustainable manner from cadres to the community.
