Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to (1) examine the differences in learning outcomes of programmable logic controllers between cadets who use problem-based learning strategies assisted by mockup media and problem-based learning strategies, (2) examine the differences in learning outcomes of programmable logic controllers between cadets who have high and low initial abilities, and (3) examine the interaction effect between learning strategies and initial abilities on learning outcomes of programmable logic controllers. This research uses a 2 x 2 factorial design with the object of research being the 3rd-semester airport electrical engineering study program students at Aviation Polytechnic Surabaya. The sample of this research includes 47 students of the TLB 11 AB class as the experimental group of problem-based learning strategy assisted by mockup media and 46 students of the TLB 12AB class as the control group of problem-based learning strategy. A learning outcomes test collected the data on learning outcomes in the form of multiple choice. Learning outcomes data were analyzed using two-tailed ANOVA (analysis of variance). The results showed that there is a significant difference in learning outcomes of the programmable logic controller between cadets who learn using problem-based learning assisted by mockup media and problem-based learning, there is a significant difference in learning outcomes of the programmable logic controller between cadets who have high and low initial abilities, there is no interaction effect between learning strategies and cadets' initial abilities on learning outcomes of the programmable logic controller. This research can contribute to improving students' understanding and skills in the field of PLC. Through practical experience and relevant projects, students can develop a deeper understanding of PLC concepts and improve their technical skills in designing, implementing, and solving problems related to PLC systems.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a website-based Learning Material Collaboration System (LMCS) for lecturers at Makassar Aviation Polytechnic. The system is designed to facilitate online collaboration in preparing teaching materials, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of learning using the waterfall method. Currently, teaching materials at the institution are independently prepared by the lecturers responsible for their respective courses, which results in non-standardized materials and limited collaboration between lecturers, practitioners, and cadets. The resulting materials are more comprehensive and sustainable through collaborative efforts in preparing teaching materials. The application requires lecturers to create an account, ensuring only authorized individuals can contribute and compile the teaching materials. This study proposes a collaborative platform that allows teaching materials to be prepared online to improve the effectiveness of learning and the quality of teaching materials. The LMCS application was tested to evaluate its reliability, efficiency, and effectiveness. The test results showed that the application effectively supported the collaboration of teaching materials, although some obstacles remained in managing cadet groups. Based on usability testing conducted with 10 participants, the application was user-friendly, with most testers successfully completing nearly all tasks. Analysis of the questionnaire using a Likert scale revealed positive user feedback, with the ease of use aspect scoring 82.6% and usability achieving a high score of 87.3%. Users felt that the application accelerated and facilitated the collaboration of teaching materials among lecturers and improved operational efficiency. However, for further development, training on the application and improvements to the user interface (UI/UX) are needed to ensure optimal use by all levels of users. The results of this study are expected to contribute to improving the quality of teaching materials and institutional accreditation at Makassar Aviation Polytechnic.

Abstract

Society 5.0 is unavoidable because it is a development of information technology marked by the transformation from analog to digital technology. Society 5.0 is more human centered based on technology. Therefore, this study is considered necessary to examine the characteristics of Human Resources (HR) in society 5.0. HR here refers to cadets who are students of the Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic and will eventually face the world of work. Cadets are human resources who can face challenges in it and are competent in all fields because society 5.0 was born to facilitate quality human life, which is also lived by quality human resources. Using a quantitative approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis, this study involved 216 cadets selected by purposive sampling. This research investigates the influence of Divergent Thinking, Self Efficacy, Critical Thinking, and Self-Regulated Learning on the Learning Outcomes of cadets at Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic by employing the Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) approach. The framework of this study comprises independent variables- namely Divergent Thinking (X1), Self Efficacy (X2), Critical Thinking (X3), and Self-Regulated Learning (X4) and a single dependent variable, Learning Outcomes. Emphasizing the role of cognitive and metacognitive competencies, this study highlights their significance in shaping vocational education strategies aimed at equipping graduates for the multifaceted challenges of Society 5.0, particularly within the highly dynamic aviation industry. The findings contribute meaningful perspectives for enhancing curriculum design and instructional practices to strengthen cadets’ competencies and elevate overall academic achievement.
