Abstract

The poetry book “99 untuk Tuhanku” which was first published in 1983 by Penerbit Pustaka – Perpustakaan Salman ITB Bandung, is the work of Emha Ainun Nadjib (EAN), a well-known writer from Indonesia. The figure of EAN is known for his writings, whether in the form of essays, prose, drama scripts, or poems that are religious, but at the same time critical in looking at the problems of life, including against power in Indonesia. This paper aims to dismantle the EAN Authorial Ideology in poetry book “99 untuk Tuhanku” by using the materialistic literary theory by Terry Eagleton. In dismantling the Authorial Ideology, it will first outline several aspects of external constituents such as the General Mode of Production, Literary Mode of Production, and General Ideology. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research results obtained are the Authorial Ideology produced by EAN is humanism-religious and sufism. Meanwhile, the ideology of the New Order regime (General Ideology) is authoritarianism, militarism, and capitalism. The ideology that was contested by EAN, instead of being a resistance ideology for power, has the potential to become an adaptive ideology and potentially perpetuate the dominance of the New Order regime.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover an Indigenous character named Oentoeng in the short story “Penunjuk Jalan”. The short story is one of Iksaka Banu's works contained in the book Semua untuk Hindia. The identity of the character that is trying to be dismantled includes hybridity, mimicry, and ambivalence. The theory used in this study is the postcolonial theory initiated by Homi K. Bhabha. The study used a qualitative descriptive method. There are three findings in this study. First, the identity of Oentoeng is a hybrid. Oentoeng absorbs Western values continuously, namely from his upbringing, education, and his association in the Dutch family environment. Second, mimicry as mockery by the character can be seen from three aspects, specifically the ability to speak Dutch, possess Western medical knowledge, and to be able to devise a strategy of rebellion that made the VOC troubles as invaders. Third, Oentoeng's attitude of wanting to be angry and willing to provide assistance, treatment, and entertainment to the Dutch doctor and his porter who had an accident could be interpreted as a form of ambivalence in the Indigenous character.

Abstract

This research seeks to dismantle the fetter of patriarchal hegemony and resistance carried out by female characters in the short story Bulan Kuning Sudah Tenggelam by Ahmad Tohari. Gramsci's theory of hegemony and Walby's thoughts on patriarchy are used as analytical tools. The method used is qualitative-descriptive. The findings of this research: The fetter of patriarchal hegemony experienced by Yuning's character occurs because of the hierarchical relationship between her and Raden Barnas as her father and his wife in the family structure. In truth, Yuning has shown resistance to the fetters she has experienced. However, it is anti-climatic because of the forgiveness of her husband's infidelity. At the same time, this condition marks the position of Yuning's figure being re-fettered by patriarchal hegemony, both in the family system and in the order of a country.

Abstract

The poem “Alang-Alang” by Abdul Wachid B.S. explores the struggle of the lyrical “I”, representing the Indonesian people, to break free from the shackles of the New Order political regime. By focusing on the voice of the lyrical “I”, this study aims to dismantle the prophetic structure of the poem by analyzing the aspects of humanization, liberation, and transcendence within it. Kuntowijoyo’s concept of prophetic literature serves as the primary analytical framework, employing a qualitative-descriptive method. The findings of this study are as follows: first, the aspect of humanization is depicted through the lyrical “I”s efforts to challenge the consciousness of power, aiming to restore the people’s conscience to its rightful place; second, the aspect of liberation is demonstrated through attempts to free the people from the constraints imposed by the New Order, including physical violence and ideological control; and third, the aspect of transcendence is reflected in the lyrical “I” awareness of God’s power (Sang Hyang or Allah Swt.), which surpasses human capabilities. This context establishes the lyrical “I” in the poem “Alang-Alang” as meeting the criteria of a prophetic subject in literary texts.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore the internalization of prophetic values in the poems "Sang Utusan" and "Musim Panen" by Kuntowijoyo. The analysis employs a prophetic literary criticism perspective using a descriptive qualitative method. The prophetic values examined in this research include aspects of humanization, liberation, and transcendence. The results of the study indicate that humanization is reflected in the persona’s loving attitude, simplicity, and concern for the suffering of society or the underprivileged. Meanwhile, liberation is expressed as an appeal to break free from the shackles of materialism, hedonism, and the pursuit of power, in favor of a life with moral and spiritual meaning. Transcendence is revealed through the character's spiritual awareness, which enables them to receive and convey the will of God in a profound manner. Through the use of symbolism in the poems, Kuntowijoyo as the author demonstrates that prophetic values have the potential to reach the deepest dimensions of the reader’s self. Therefore, literary works are not merely expressions of aesthetic experience, but also serve as instruments for promoting social and spiritual transformation.

Abstract

The Kappa by Ryunosuke Akutagawa tells about the life of the kappa, a mythological creature that met "I" on his climbing journey. "I" character stumbled, then found himself already in the kappa world. This research will answer: first, how is the reflection of the real world and the possible-world in Kappa's novel?; second, how many of the rules that describe one world are broken by the other? This research used Marie-Laure Ryan's narrative or possible-world concept as the main theory. The method used in this research is descriptive-qualitative. This research concluded two things: first, in the Kappa novel, the dominant condition of the kappa world is described as a possible-world that has an advanced culture, which is pretty similar to what Japan experienced in the 1920s in the real world; and second, the rules that each species breaks (humans and kappa), from the real world to the kappa world, are not explained in detail, except for the part when the "I "is about to return to the human world. Unfortunately, the explanation is still not detailed because it is a transition chapter (from "Part XVI" to "Part XVII"). Also, at the opening of the narration "Part XVII", the narrator has lived an ordinary life (before experiencing symptoms of madness) in the human world. These broken rules happen at the beginning and end of the novel, which means framing the events of the "I "long experience in the kappa world, where he finds a world that is no less vast than the world that humans live inside.
