Abstract

The research was conducted aiming to an analysis of students’ ability in writing descriptive texts at the ninth grade of SMPIT Sabbihisma Padang. The method used in this research is the qualitative method. The subjects of this study were the 32 students of the IX-1 class. The research investigated the descriptive writing text which had been done by the ninth-grade students of SMPIT Sabbihisma Padang. The researcher analyzed the students’ writing results referring to the five aspects. They were organization ideas, developed ideas, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. After analyzing the texts written by the student, the researcher categorizes them into four categories, namely excellent, good, fair, and poor. The result is 1 student or 3, 13%, there are 6 students or 18, 75%, there are 3 students or 9, 37%, and there are 22 students or 68, 75%. The average students’ capability in writing descriptive text is poor. The problems faced are (1) the students have problems with the limited number of vocabulary, (2) developing the idea in a descriptive text, (3) grammar mastery. Grammar mastery is the most problem faced by the students. The causes of the problem are (1) students’ low motivation, (2) Understanding.

Abstract

Sebagian besar mahasiswa masih memandang bahasa Inggris sangat sulit untuk dipelajari. Selain itu mahasiswa tidak percaya diri dan takut melakukan kesalahan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kemampuan siswa berbicara bahasa Inggris setelah menggunakan metode dubbing dan media video pembelajaran. Model penelitian eksperimen yang digunakan adalah one group of pre-test and post-test eksperimental design. Metode pengumpulan data eksperimen terdiri dari observasi, wawancara, dan perekaman. Analisis data melalui pengelompokan dan perbandingan berdasarkan kategori; kategori tidak puas (AS), kategori cukup (F), kategori baik (G), kategori sangat baik (V), dan kategori sangat baik (E). Hasil penelitian berdasarkan pre-test masuk dalam kategori US = 7 siswa, F = 21 siswa, G = 13 siswa, VG = 3 siswa dan E = 0, tidak ditemukan hasil dan post test hasil belajar siswa US = 0, tidak ditemukan hasil, F = 6 siswa, G = 20 siswa, VG = 17 siswa dan E = 1 siswa. Kemudian efek positif dari penggunaan metode dubbing hasil adalah kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris meningkat lebih tinggi, mengacu pada hasil pre-test kategori kemampuan siswa ditemukan dalam kategori US dan tidak ditemukan kategori yang sama pada hasil post-test, siswa ' kategori kemampuan tidak ada hasil yang ditemukan dalam kategori E dan kategori AS. Jadi metode dubbing bekerja secara efektif dalam proses pengajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membangun sebuah sistem penunjang keputusan yang dapat digunakan oleh toko Al-Fazza Cosmetic untuk memberikan rekomendasi dalam pemilihan supplier. Dalam membangun sistem penunjang keputusan ini penulis menggunakan metode weighted product (wp) untuk melakukan pengolahan data dan melakukan perangkingan alternatif yang akan digunakan sebagai hasil rekomendasi dari sistem penunjang keputusan ini. Metode weighted product (wp) adalah metode yang melakukan perkalian terhadap semua bobot alternatif yang sebelumnya sudah dipangkatkan dengan bobot dari kriteria yang sudah dinormalisasikan. Dalam melakukan pemilihan supplier di toko Al-Fazza Cosmetic kriteria yang dijadikan acuan oleh pembuat keputusan yaitu kelengkapan barang, lama kadaluarsa, harga rata-rata, jarak supplier, dan akses transportasi dengan masing-masing bobot kriteria (5, 4, 3, 2, 1). Dari hasil analisa dan pengolahan data yang didapat dengan menggunakan metode weighted product (wp) sistem penunjang keputusan yang dibangun dapat memberikan perangkingan terhadap alternatif dan memberikan rekomendasi kepada pembuat keputusan di toko al_fazza cosmetic dalam memilih supplier. Hasil rekomendasi yang diberikan sistem penunjang keputusan ini bukan merupakan hasil akhir ataupun keputusan mutlak yang harus diambil, melainkan rekomendasi yang dapat digunakan pembuat keputusan dalam menentukan keputusannya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan pada tulisan siswa, salah satunya adalah penggalan kalimat. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan jenis analisis dokumen. Pengambilan sampel data dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 5 partisipan, dengan jumlah populasinya 22 partisipan. Data yang peneliti lakukan adalah analisis dokumen tugas menulis akademik mahasiswa, berupa menganalisis kalimat tanpa kata kerja atau subjek, kalimat tanpa huruf kapital, kalimat dengan tanda baca yang tidak tepat, dan kalimat tanpa klausa utama atau independen. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah tugas menulis akademik. Analisis data menggunakan bentuk kuis oleh Arnold (2017). Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan diperoleh tugas I < tugas II, dengan selisih total 51 skor. Konstruksi masing-masing jenis penggalan kalimat yang terdapat pada tugas penulisan skripsi mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Putra Indonesia “YPTK” Padang tidak lengkap.

Abstract

The use of Online translation (OT) for doing English assignments is now inevitable. Teachers neither can prevent their students to use OT nor can supervise it when all of the learning process has been running online from home to home. Therefore, both teachers and students should bring out the advantages of OT to improve English competence and to reduce the disadvantages of using OT. This study is aimed to investigate the students’ perspectives of using OT for doing English assignments and to describe the advantages and disadvantages of OT. The study is presented in descriptive qualitative design. The data collection instruments are questionnaires and open-ended questions. The participants are 198 students of Information system department, University of Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang. The findings of this study showed that for about 80% of English students depend their English assignments on OT. Based on the EFL students’ perspective, the advantages of using OT are time saver and instant results and the disadvantages of using OT are inaccuracy in the results relate to cultural context, idiom, sentences with metaphor and pragmatic aspects for learning the structure of English language. The study proposes some ideas for teachers to teach their students strategies and guidance for using OT properly and to avoid making mistakes. Abstract

Film berjudul “Sampai Nanti, Hanna!” sangat unik dengan tindak tutur yang kontras antara konteks pertemanan dan konteks domestik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tentang tindak tutur permintaan dan penolakan, dan kaitannya dengan konteks tuturan, hubungan dan status sosial penutur dan lawan tutur. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, dengan mengumpulkan 13 dialog yang berisi tuturan permintaan dan respon terhadap tuturan tersebut. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan teknik simak, rekam dan catat dari dialog di dalam film. Data dianalisis menggunakan taxonomy permintaan dari Blum-Kulka, dkk., (1989) dan Altameemy, dkk., (2024) dan penolakan dari Beebe (1990) dan Garcia, (2024). Hasil penelitian menemukan terdapat tindak tutur permintaan untuk bantuan, permintaan sikap/perbuatan dan permintaan ijin. Sedangkan semua tindak tutur penolakan merupakan jenis penolakan terhadap sikap/perbuatan. Jenis tindak tutur penolakan yang digunakan hampir semuanya menggunakan tindak tutur tidak langsung, kecuali dalam hubungan hierarki antara suami ke istri dan dari ibu ke anak dalam konteks domestik. Strategi tuturan yang digunakan sangat tergantung pada hierarki dalam hubungan sosial penutur dan lawan tutur.

Abstract

This research developed an educational application based an immersive virtual reality application using a 360-degree camera and a software engine called Unity. The content in the application contains conversations with topics given in the English II course and listening comprehension skill exercises tailored to the needs of users, especially for Computer Science Faculty Students. Each exercise is given a score or value to monitor the improvement of students' listening skills before and after using the application. This research is part of Research and Development (R & D) research. In this study, a descriptive qualitative approach was used to explain the process, appearances, and results of application validation by six English lecturers. The result of this research was  an immersive-based educational application with virtual reality technology for listening comprehension exercises using several features like text to speech, rotating 360-degree ability, and scoring system. This application achieved a validation value of 94 percent.The highest value of the validation results was the suitability of the application to the needs of students, while the lowest value of this application was the video display which still has to be improved again.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the style of language in the closing statement of NajwaShihab on the talk show "Mata Najwa" in Trans 7. This type of research is a qualitative research using a descriptive approach. The data of this research is in the form of NajwaShihab's speech in the closing statement in the talk show "Mata Najwa" which contains language style. The data source for this research is the video recording of Mata Najwa's talk show on Trans 7 March - April 2020 edition. The video was taken on the Narasi Newsroom Youtube Channel. The methods and techniques used at the stage of providing the data are the listening method with tapping techniques and advanced listening techniques, free involvement, conversation and notes. At the stage of data analysis, the method used is the matching method with the technique of sorting the determining elements, while at the stage of presenting the results of data analysis, the method is used the informal method. The language styles found in NajwaShihab's closing statement on the talk show "Mata Najwa" in Trans 7 are hyperbole, personification, metaphor, synecdoche (totem pro parte), association, euphemism, anaphora, epanolepsis, epizeuksis, cynicism, innuendo, sarcasm, paradox, antithesis, and repetition. Repetition is the most dominant language style found in this research (in all data). The repetition in question is in the form of repeating phonemes at the end of the sentence (having a rhyme/rhyme "aa"). Each row in the data has a pair, namely odd and even rows (eg rows 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and so on).
