Abstract

This study examines the factors that cause damage to containers during the loading and unloading process on full geared container deck ships with port destinations including Pasir Panjang Port (Singapore), Laem Chabang Port (Thailand), and Penang Port (Malaysia) and determines the priority problems that must be resolved immediately. This research uses mixed methods by combining quantitative and qualitative methods with an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative analysis used is the Urgency, Seriousness, and Growth (USG) method. Qualitative methods used observation, interviews, and documentation. The sample used is container damage on the MV. SS in the period August 2018 to August 2019. Causes of container damage during the loading and unloading process on the ship include the lack of supervision and concern of the crew for the security of containers during the loading and unloading process on the ship. From the results of USG method, it was found that container security activities were disrupted due to the duty crew participating in routine ship activities while at the port, even though the duty crew was fully responsible for reefer plug/unplug activities. Furthermore, there is no monitoring of the availability of loading and unloading equipment carried out by the crew so that the ship does not know the real number of lashing equipment on board.

Abstract

In supporting the process of monitoring high exhaust gas temperatures on the MV ship. Beautiful Food, still There were several problems with the company and crew related to the treatment of rinse air and high exhaust gas temperatures. The problem is the high level of non-optimal treatment of rinse air and frequent occurrence of surging on the turbocharger on board. Based on these problems, the authors conducted an analysis to determine whether there was an effect of rinse and surging air treatment on the turbocharger on the high exhaust gas temperature. The type of research used is quantitative method. Data was collected by using questionnaires distributed directly to 30 respondents, namely the third machinist who was taking ATT II class at the Jakarta Shipping Science College with a total of 20 statements. In looking for the results of the calculations the author uses the SPSS 25 program and performs several data analyzes, namely: multiple linear regression analysis, correlation test, validity test, determination test, f-test and t-test. Conclusions in this study were carried out by comparing the data obtained from the answers of existing respondents. Based on the acquisition of questionnaire data and data processing. The results showed that the rinse and surging air treatments on the turbocharger together proved to be positive and significant for the high exhaust gas temperature on the MV ship. Beautiful Food with F .value count > F table or 66.633 > 3.3. The author describes several solutions to improve monitoring activities for high temperatures exhaust gases, namely: the company and MV crew. Boga Indah must optimize air treatment rinse well, optimize cooling air temperature in performing rinse air maintenance, improve the cleanliness of the rinse air filter to obtain maximum rinse air quality, provide training to ship crews on proper and proper turbocharger operation can reduce the risk of surging, and the most important thing is to monitor the occurrence of surging on the turbocharger with a good strategy so that there are no obstacles and have a positive influence on the high exhaust gas temperature on the MV ship. Beautiful Food.

Abstract

In accordance with the provisions and regulations in Marpol 73/78 concerning regulations for preventing marine pollution. And Marpol 73/78 Annex III regarding burning oil and waste using a Waste Oil Incinerator, requires knowledge, ability and responsibility for handling it. This world is always developing in the field of waste processing, especially those originating from ships, generally from the Engine Room, so it is better for ships to be equipped with Waste Oil Incinerator, which is a tool commonly used to burn dirty oil and other rubbish and debris on ships that can be burned. Considering its very important role on ships, the Waste Oil Incinerator is very useful and is very important equipment in efforts to prevent pollution at sea. Therefore, maintenance of the Incinerator must be carried out. With routine maintenance and repairs and in accordance with correct maintenance planning, it will provide large economic benefits for the company and participate in preserving marine ecosystems and the marine environment. However, in its implementation, errors often occur which cause a decrease in the quality of the Waste Oil Incinerator, thus damaging the marine ecosystem due to several things as follows: 1) TheWaste Oil Incinerator does not work optimally 2) Lack of maintenance of the Main Burner Incinerator on board the ship 3) Lack of maintenance on the Waste Oil Incinerator 4) Operation of the Waste Oil Incinerator not in accordance with the instructions manual.

Abstract

The maritime industry requires professionals who possess not only technical expertise but also strong ethical foundations and intercultural competence. This study offers a unique contribution by integrating Islamic values, such as humility, responsibility, and intercultural competence, into maritime cadet education, an area that remains underexplored in previous research. Unlike existing studies that primarily focus on technical or multicultural training, this research emphasizes character formation through religious and value-based education, aligning with the ethical demands of global maritime practice. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which Islamic values are embedded in cadet training programs, assess their effectiveness in shaping professional competencies, and recommend strategies for curriculum improvement. A qualitative research design was employed, involving semi-structured interviews and surveys with 20 stakeholders, including maritime professionals, lecturers, and recent graduates from Indonesian maritime institutions. Thematic analysis was used to categorize findings under the three core values. Data reliability was ensured through triangulation, expert validation of instruments, and cross-group comparison. The results reveal strong integration of Islamic values, with responsibility receiving the highest ratings, followed by humility and intercultural competence. While graduates confirmed the relevance of values in real-world settings, gaps were noted in experiential and intercultural training. The study highlights the strategic importance of values-based education in developing ethically grounded and globally competent seafarers. Recommendations include strengthening experiential learning, expanding multicultural exposure, and aligning curriculum with both industry standards and Islamic ethical principles.
