Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Forest and land fires are common natural disasters in Indonesia, impacting ecology, economy, and community welfare. This study aims to calculate the spatial risk of Karhutla in Pesawaran Regency as an initial step in disaster management. The data comes from Landsat 8 (OLI) satellite images, slope maps, road maps, rivers, and land cover of Pesawaran Regency. This disaster risk assessment method refers to Decree from the BNPB Head Number 2 on year 2012 with three risk components in the form of vulnerability, hazard, and capacity indices. The hazard index was analyzed using hazard assessment variables, spatial analysis, and attribute analysis. The index of vulnerability is conducted by analyzing the conditions and characteristics of the community and its environment to calculate which factors reduce the ability to cope with disasters. The capacity index is calculated based on five leading indicators: disaster management rules and institutions, early warning systems and disaster risk assessments, disaster education, essential risk factor reduction, and preparedness development at all levels. The calculated hazard, vulnerability, and capacity indices were then combined to assess the risk level of land and forest fire disasters. An analysis from forest and land fire disaster risk assessment results in Pesawaran Regency shows that majority of the area have a medium risk. The largest sub-district with a low-risk level is in Pandan Island Sub-district with an area of 11,332.6 hectare, and the largest sub-district with a high level is in Tegineneng Sub-district of 11,558.3 hectare area, followed by Gedong Meneng sub-district. These sub-districts could be prioritized for a holistic and integrated scheme to add capacity index by all stakeholders.

Abstract

This paper studies the commuting patterns of students and staff at the Sumatera Institute of Technology (ITERA), a rapidly growing university located in a peri-urban area of Lampung Province, Indonesia. The research is grounded in the understanding that peri-urban commuters face unique mobility challenges shaped by transitional land use, limited infrastructure, and high motorcycle dependency. Using both statistical and spatial analyses, the article analyzed distinct travel behaviors and their socioeconomic determinants. Findings reveal that motorcycles dominate as the primary commuting mode for both groups, driven by cultural norms and constrained public transport access. Staff exhibit higher rates of vehicle ownership and longer, more dispersed commutes, while students tend to reside closer to campus and rely on borrowed motorcycles. Temporal analysis shows structured weekday travel among staff and more flexible, weekend-active patterns among students. The findings offer targeted insights for developing sustainable transportation strategies in rapidly expanding peri-urban institutions—such as promoting bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, designing transport policies that account for widespread motorcycle borrowing among students, and differentiating mobility interventions based on the spatial dispersion and financial profiles of staff versus students.

Abstract

Roads play an important role in achieving national development goals, particularly in ensuring equitable development across regions with potential for growth at both regional and national levels. Lampung Province serves as the gateway to Sumatra Island, connecting various other provinces on the island to Java. The province is actively developing its regional potential, especially in the agriculture and plantation sectors. A large portion of these promising sectors, particularly in agriculture and plantations, is concentrated in three regencies: Way Kanan, Tulang Bawang Barat, and North Lampung. To support the development plans of these highly potential regions, the Lampung Provincial Government plans to improve and upgrade road infrastructure in order to boost economic development. This study identifies the financial feasibility of improving and upgrading provincial road infrastructure in Way Kanan, Tulang Bawang Barat, and North Lampung Regencies by using spatial analysis and quantitative analysis of financial feasibility criteria, including calculations of Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Profitability Index (PI), and Payback Period. Based on the analysis, the most feasible alternative road route for development is the Simpang Tulung Randu – Adijaya – Tajab – Sp. Soponyono – Serupa Indah – Negara Ratu – Kotabumi and Serupa Indah – Bumiharjo – Sp. Way Tuba section. Road 1 has the highest IRR at 7.92%, the highest NPV at IDR 614,905,153,799, the highest PI at 2.30, and the fastest Payback Period of 13 years, 9 months, and 11 days.

Abstract

Indonesia, with its second-longest coastline in the world, is vulnerable to coastal disasters such as extreme waves and coastal abrasion. Pesisir Barat Regency in Sumatra is one of the regions that is vulnerable to these threats. Extreme waves, although rarely occur because of tropical cyclones, can be triggered by the influence of cyclones in the Indian Ocean. In addition, coastal abrasion caused by the interaction of waves, currents, and winds is increasingly threatening coastal areas. This research aims to identify the risk of extreme waves and abrasion disasters in Pesisir Barat Regency using a research-based approach to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and multi-criteria analysis. Data on marine hydrodynamics, coastal topography, and land cover conditions are integrated to produce disaster risk maps. The risk analysis results show that the Ngaras sub-district and several other sub-districts, such as Bangkunat, Lemong, and Ngambur, have a high level of risk, with a total risk area reaching 0.398 square kilometers (km2). Meanwhile, most other sub-districts are in the low-risk class. Key factors influencing the risk level include coastal topography, vegetation cover, and the intensity of human activities in coastal areas. This study highlights the importance of coastal zone management based on risk mitigation and the need to protect coastal ecosystems to reduce disaster impacts. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for disaster mitigation policy planning in Pesisir Barat and other coastal areas. Additionally, these results could be utilized to develop holistic and practical disaster reduction effort by related stakeholders and coastal communities.

Abstract

Angkringan has become a cultural symbol, urban feature and social space for the people of Yogyakarta and its surroundings. However, deculturalization and modernity have been considered to be the main challenges for the existence of traditional angkringan (TA) in the city of Yogyakarta. This research aims to explain the potential problems faced by traditional angkringan in the midst of the urban modernity process that is occurring and its relationship with institutional attitudes towards modernity. This research was conducted around the university area of Gadjah Mada University and Yogyakarta State University. Data collection methods were carried out through field observations, informal interviews, and literature review data. The results of this research show that development with the concept of modernity which is interpreted in a limited way, the shift from informal spaces to formal spaces, business competition, technological developments and social changes have more or less influenced the existence of traditional angkringan. Apart from that, modernity can be said to have shifted the role, function and physicality of traditional angkringan from public spaces

Abstract

Panjang Port is a major cargo port in Indonesia. Along with the increasing demand for ports and infrastructure in Panjang Port, it can cause environmental damage. Efforts can be made by applying the green port concept to port infrastructure. However, until now, the implementation of a green port in Panjang Port has not been realized. So that this research was made with the aim of formulating an infrastructure optimization strategy that is in accordance with the application of the green port concept to infrastructure in Panjang Port. Then the data that has been obtained is then analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis methods and SWOT analysis. Based on the literature study, the standards used are international standards and green port indicators. Based on the results of the analysis, Panjang Port is in compliance with international standards in terms of safety and security. Meanwhile, the green port indicator is not appropriate. So that the strategy formulation is based on internal factors and port external factors.
