Abstract

This study aims to identify the main factors in the selection of majors in college. There were 1283 participants consisting of first, second, and third year students from various universities in Indonesia, both public and private. The research approach was non-experimental quantitative using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that almost 30% of students felt that they chose the wrong major. Those who felt they chose the wrong major had lower knowledge domain (μ = 42.67; t = 20.376, p < 0.05) and help-seeking behavior (μ = 47.89; t = 5.336, p < 0.05) compared to those who felt they chose the right major. Based on the type of university, 274 students from public universities (72.29%) and 105 students from private universities (27.71%). The conclusion was that students who felt they had the wrong major did not have adequate Self Knowledge and Occupational Knowledge. Their need to seek help has not been accompanied by sufficient knowledge about themselves and their intended careers, hence students need to be proactive in gaining knowledge from credible sources. This study mapped the factors that influenced major selection and thus guidance on major selection since high school should be considered.

Abstract

Technological developments make it easier for humans to network widely through social media such as Instagram. Active Instagram users in Indonesia are dominated by teenagers. The existence of social media allows cyberbullying to occur, which is an act of bullying via the internet that can trigger victims to blame themselves. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cyberbullying on adolescents who experience self-blaming via Instagram. The method used in this study is quantitative with a non-experimental regression approach. The data collection technique was carried out using an instrument in the form of a Likert scale, while the data collection method was through a questionnaire filled out via the Google form. Participants in this study were young Instagram users aged 18-22 years. Based on the results of the simple regression test that has been carried out by researchers, it can be concluded that cyberbullying has a significant effect on self-blaming. After conducting this research, it is hoped that further researchers can intervene through education on social media such as distributing e-flyers related to cyberbullying behavior so that they can suppress cyberbullying actions that occur on social media.

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions of PAUD teachers in Lebak, Banten, about critical thinking skills in learning for children aged 4-6 years, learning strategies, and challenges faced. A descriptive quantitative approach was used with an open-ended questionnaire filled out by 131 teachers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with presentation in the form of visual graphs. The results showed that teachers' understanding of critical thinking indicators varied, with 39.6% understanding critical thinking more as the ability to analyze, 14.4% as interpretation, 12.6% as evaluation, 8.2% as inference, 5.4% as explanation, and 4.5% as self-regulation. Teachers emphasized analysis and interpretation through interactive methods, while evaluation and inference were less applied. The novelty of this study lies in the mapping of teachers' understanding based on critical thinking indicators and their impact on learning strategies. Recommendations for training based on direct practice and reflection to improve the implementation of critical thinking evenly are contributions to the research results as well as being the basis for improving policies and developing teacher training in areas with low HDI.

Abstract

Organizational commitment is an important factor in determining whether someone will be actively involved in carrying out their work duties and also helps determine the achievement of the organization. However, not all employees of the organization have high organizational commitment, including administrative staff at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD). This study aims to see the organizational commitment influenced by the career plateau and work ethic of administrative staff at one of the RSUDs in the Jakarta area. This study uses a quantitative approach with 62 participants (n = 62) and data analysis techniques using mediator regression analysis. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire accessed via the google form link. This study was conducted at one of the RSUDs in the Jakarta area. The results of the analysis show that work ethic has a more dominant direct effect on the organizational commitment of administrative staff at the RSUD (β = .271), rather than its indirect effect through career plateau (β = .089). This shows that work ethic has a more consistent impact on the loyalty of administrative staff at the RSUD.

Abstract

Tangerang is a city whose people consist of various ethnicities or religions, such as Muslims, Christians, Catholics, and Buddhists. Even in Tangerang, there are quite a lot of temples / temples. In the last 20 years, the people of Tangerang City have never faced horizontal conflicts between religious believers. But interestingly, based on the results of the Setara Institute study in 2018, Tangerang as a city has a tolerance index of 4.58 from a range of scores of 1-7. This figure puts Tangerang in the 61st position of the 94 cities surveyed. These results can be said to be low. Of course, this is somewhat different from the phenomenon which recorded the absence of horizontal conflicts in Tangerang City. The purpose of this research is to see a picture of religious maturity and religious tolerance in the people of Tangerang city. This study used a quantitative approach, target participants in this study were 150 (n = 150) participants. The research instrument was a questionnaire containing statements / items related to religious tolerance. Data was collected by means of online administration because this study was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the mean difference test show that there is no significant difference, both in terms of religious tolerance and religious maturity based on the demographic group of age, gender, and education. But in terms of histogram distribution, it shows the outlier score on the variable of religious maturity. Therefore, in general, demographic factors do not affect the variation of religious tolerance and religious maturity. However, the religious maturity score of the people of Tangerang City is relatively low.

Abstract

AbstractOne of the critical subjects in school that needs to be assessed is a science subject. Without a science subject, students cannot observe and understand a phenomenon on earth. However, results from an international study such as Trends International in Mathematics and Science (TIMSS), students in Indonesia performed poorly compared to students from another country. Furthermore, science is one of the essential education for children as it included in the STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). From some empirical evidence, student’s attitude and self-efficacy (beliefs about their ability and skill) were found to be dominant predictors of student’s achievement, not excluded, science achievement. However, most of the research analyses the data under conventional regression analysis. Instead of under the structural modelling, and so the results can be considered carefully. This research will analyze a science achievement of Indonesian cohort, and the predictors would be self-efficacy, student’s attitudes toward science, school and teaching. Five hundred seventy-six data of students would be examined path analysis to answer the research questions. The results were found that both student’s attitude and self-efficacy had a significant direct role in determining student achievement in science. To be specific, attitude towards science had the most significant impact on science achievement, over self-efficacy. However, interestingly, the pattern of the effect from those predictors was different toward Science achievement. The practical aspects of the results of this study will be discussed in the discussion section.

Abstract

Moral is an important thing in a person's character. However, today Indonesian society has experienced many moral setbacks, especially among adolescents. This causes a moral crisis in adolescents. Although the crisis was realized, it was never known empirically about the moral crisis that occurred. This study intends to test the construct validity of the moral character instrument by means of a confirmatory factor analysis approach. The author's moral character instrument is compiled using a Likert model. Participants in this study were junior high and high school students in two different schools with a total of 153 (n = 153). The results of the CFA analysis show that the multidimensional model on moral instruments is declared fit with the data. However, there are several notes regarding the considerable number of invalid statement items on moral instruments.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a psychological instrument of family resilience using data derived from Indonesian samples based on a five-dimensional resilience scale: physical resilience, psychological resilience, economic resilience, social resilience, and religiosity resilience. Each dimension was measured with five items (25 items in total) on a 4-point Likert scale.  A total of 841 subjects (n = 841) were gathered through purposive sampling and were required to complete the questionnaire. Data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch analysis, aimed at generating each item’s validity based on the formulated constructs. Results indicated that all item t-values exceeded 1.96 (t > 1.96), and the model’s statistical indices satisfied the criteria for unidimensionality and goodness of fit. According to the Rasch analysis, all items demonstrated good fit and a high Cronbach’s alpha reliability index. A newly developed family resilience measure for Indonesian populations demonstrates strong construct validity across all dimensions and items, including a unique dimension that recognises the role of religion in family coping. While promising for clinical and research use, further validation and cross-cultural studies are needed to address limitations related to purposive sampling and cultural specificity. These studies should employ longitudinal and cross-cultural designs to enhance generalizability. This will ensure that the instrument provides a robust measure of family resilience for diverse applications. Meanwhile, the limitation of the study is the need to conduct a standardised norming of the instrument.
