Abstract

Paving block workers are included in the informal sector and have a risk of lower back pain. Documenting the workers’ health status in the informal sector has not been done well so that workers do not get protection from the government. Heavy physical work puts pressure on the spine associated with repeated body twisting. This study aims to determine work attitude, length of employment, and exercise habits related to low back pain in Pontianak paving block workers in 2018. This type of research is observational with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling uses total sampling. The research sample of 56 paving block workers in the city of Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Data is processed with a computer program. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate and tested using the Chi-square test, with α = 5%. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the length of the work (p = 0.013), work attitude (p-value = 0.038), and exercise habits (p = 0.003) with low back pain.

Abstract

Clearing is a vital process in microscopy, aimed at enhancing the transparency of tissue preparations for clearer observation of insect structures. Despite its effectiveness, Toluene poses safety concerns due to its explosive nature. Therefore, clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) has been explored as a safer alternative. This study evaluates the quality of permanent preparations of Pediculus humanus capitis using both toluene and clove oil. Comparative tests were conducted, treating adult head lice specimens with each solvent for three repetitions. Permanent preparations were assessed for clarity, color quality, and morphological integrity. Results indicate a significant difference in quality between the two methods. Toluene yielded mainly poor-quality preparations, while clove oil resulted in a higher proportion of preparations of good quality. The Mann-Whitney test confirmed the significance of this difference (p = 0.002). This study highlights the efficacy of clove oil as a safer alternative to toluene in the clearing process, contributing to entomological practices and chemical safety.

Abstract

Liver cirrhosis is the final stage of various chronic liver diseases characterized by fibrosis and nodule formation in the liver. The pathophysiology of liver cirrhosis involves a complex process, in which the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) is very important. PPARα, which is mainly expressed in the liver, plays an important role in the regulation of hepatic lipid metabolism. In cirrhosis, PPARα expression is decreased, resulting in impaired fatty acid oxidation and increased lipogenesis. This contributes to the accumulation of fat in the liver, which is one of the characteristics of NAFLD that can progress to cirrhosis. PPARγ, although better known for its role in adipose tissue, also has important functions in the liver. In cirrhosis, PPARγ plays a role in inhibiting the activation and proliferation of HSCs, and modulating macrophage polarization. PPARγ activation can reduce liver inflammation and fibrosis, and increase insulin sensitivity. Recent studies have shown that PPARγ agonists can improve steatosis, reduce inflammation, and significantly improve the response to hepatitis viruses. PPARδ, which is widely expressed in various tissues including the liver, plays a role in lipid metabolism and liver inflammation. Moreover PPARs role in viral hepatitis induced liver chirrosis is still remain controversial. Although research on PPARδ in the context of liver cirrhosis is still limited, several studies have shown its potential anti-fibrotic effects. Thus, a deeper understanding of the role of PPARs in the pathophysiology of liver cirrhosis opens up new opportunities for the development of more effective therapies to treat this chronic liver disease.

Abstract

Tofu water and sugar cane juice are trendy drinks, especially in Pontianak City. Pathogenic bacterial contamination in tofu water and sugar cane juice can be a severe threat if the immune system is weak. This research aims to identify pathogenic bacteria in Pontianak City tofu water and sugar cane water. The methods used are culture methods and biochemical tests. The research samples were tofu water and sugar cane juice sold in the community. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. In this study, the bacteria found in the identification of bacteria in tofu water and sugar cane water were Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Salmonella typhi, and Escherichia coli. Bacteria dominate, while in sugarcane juice, it is dominated by Escherichia coli, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae. The research results can also be the basis for better policies and preventive measures related to the safety of the quality of tofu water and sugar cane juice in Pontianak City. Therefore, this research can be relevant to environmental protection and public health in Pontianak.

Abstract

Anxiety is a condition in which an individual experiences a concern about something that is not certain to happen, even some people experiencing anxiety but do not understand the specific cause of the anxiety source they feel. Anxiety problems, which are common in people, can be treated non-pharmacologically with deep muscle relaxation techniques, which do not require guided imagination or cause side effects in patients undergoing progressive muscle relaxation therapy. The objective of this study is to identify how progressive muscle relaxation techniques affected the anxiety levels of hypertension patients at the Kedaung Wetan Public Health Center. The study was conducted to determine if there was a difference in the level of anxiety experienced by hypertensive patients before and after receiving progressive muscle relaxation therapy. The design in this study employed a quasi-experimental pre-post-test with a control group with a progressive muscle relaxation therapy intervention. Result: there is a significant relationship between the period of occurrence of hypertension with anxiety experienced by respondents. Anxiety in hypertensive patients is more prevalent in those who are unfamiliar with hypertension. Thus, anxiety can arise from a sense of concern and fear of more serious complications which occur from the hypertension they are experiencing. The experimental group who received treatment in the form of progressive muscle relaxation therapy had a lower level of anxiety than the control group at the Kedaung Wetan Public Health Center in Tangerang City, with a p-value of 0.000.
