Abstract

Abstract. The ability to argue is one of the 21st century skills that students need to have. The purpose of this study was to determine the scientific argumentation skills of students class XII at the Biringkanaya District High School in answering description questions, especially in the digestive system material. This type of research is a descriptive survey research using purposive sampling technique. The population of this study were students of class XII MIA at State Senior High Schools in Biringkanaya District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The sample used in this study is a study group in which students have heterogeneous cognitive abilities. The argumentation ability data is obtained through giving tests. Based on the test results, the overall argumentation skills of students were in the very poor category with a score of 19.74%. The results of the students' arguments showed that in the aspect of making claims with a percentage of 91.4% (very good); aspects include ground with a percentage of 21.64% (less); aspects include backing with a percentage of  9.88% (very low); aspects include a warranty with a percentage of 5.71% (very low); aspects include qualifier with a percentage of 5% (very low);  and aspects include rebuttals or reservations with a percentage of 7.3% (very low). Keywords: ability to argument, making claims, rebuttal, reservation, high schools Makassar

Abstract

The Waitatiri Watershed (DAS) in Central Maluku is one of the tropical ecosystems that supports biodiversity, including fungi and lichens. Fungi play a significant role in organic matter decomposition, while lichens serve as bioindicators of air and environmental quality. However, information regarding the diversity of these organisms in the Waitatiri watershed remains limited. This study employed purposive random sampling to explore fungi and lichens in the Waitatiri watershed. Samples were collected from substrates such as living tree trunks, deadwood, bark, rocks, and soil. Initial identification was conducted using digital applications, followed by detailed identification based on relevant scientific literature. Data were analyzed descriptively to describe species types, distribution, and ecological roles. The study identified 10 fungal species from the phylum Basidiomycota and 7 lichen species from the phylum Ascomycota were identified, with foliose thalli and crustose thalli growing on living tree trunks, dead bark, and rocks. The presence of crustose lichens indicates relatively good air quality in the region. The diversity of fungi and lichens in the Waitatiri watershed highlights its importance as a local biodiversity habitat. Their ecological roles as decomposers and environmental bioindicators emphasize the need for watershed ecosystem conservation to ensure environmental sustainability. Further research is required to explore the ecological and economic potential of the identified species and support conservation efforts.

Abstract

Education is requires students to have skills to support the learning process in the 21st century. 21st century learning skills can be trained in various ways including through the learning model used by the teacher. The 2P3A learning model consists of 5 main stages, namely the Preparation stage, the Problem Statement stage, the Analyze stage, the Argument stage and the Application stage. This learning model focuses on training and improving argumentation skills, problem solving skills and literacy skills of students. Argumentation skills are enhanced at the Argument stage where students will be trained to state their views about a problem, Problem solving skills are improved through the Analyze stage where students are trained to look for and analyze problems given and Literacy Skills can be trained through the Preparation stage where students will be accustomed to read the learning material before starting the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Environmental Education (EE) courses for second-semester students in the Biology Education Study Program by examining the relationship between the Semester Learning Plan (SLP), lecturers teaching practices, and students learning experiences. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including document analysis, interviews with lecturers, and student interviews. The analysis reveals that the EE curriculum structure incorporates learning outcomes based on ecological literacy and is implemented through active methods such as recycling projects and field trips to environmental institutions. Students demonstrated positive responses and began to exhibit changes in their attitudes toward the environment, though these changes were not yet fully consistent. The study also highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability values across courses and strengthening affective evaluation. In conclusion, the implementation of PLH contributes to the development of students ecological awareness and is relevant for expansion in biology teacher education.

Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has become a strategic approach to developing 21st-century skills and enhancing global competitiveness. The implementation of STEM across Southeast Asia shows significant variation. This study aims to comparatively analyze the pedagogical approaches, key findings, and implementation challenges of STEM education in eight ASEAN countries using a systematic literature review approach. Data were collected from relevant scholarly publications using the Google Scholar search engine and analyzed based on three categories: pedagogical approach, implementation outcomes, and challenges. The findings reveal that countries such as Singapore and Vietnam have successfully built progressive STEM education ecosystems through policy support, continuous teacher training, and adequate infrastructure. Meanwhile, developing countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines face challenges such as unintegrated curricula, limited resources, and low teacher readiness. This study concludes that the success of STEM education heavily depends on the synergy between national policies, teacher preparedness, and supporting facilities. The results are expected to serve as a foundation for designing adaptive and contextual STEM implementation strategies across Southeast Asia.
