Abstract

Prostatitis is swelling and regulation of prostate reserves, a measure of the size of walnuts placed just below the bladder in men. Prostatitis occurs in men over 50 years of age and it is estimated that about 50% of men question prostatitis during their lifetime. Treatment for prostatitis depends on the cause. Antibiotics are effective treatments for acute bacterial prostatitis. Antibiotic treatment has several factors that must be used using traditional drugs that have smaller side effects compared to materials produced from chemicals, besides that the use of natural ingredients requires a cheaper cost. Green betel leaf (Piper betle L.) is able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera and Shigella dysenteriae.

Abstract

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is an enlargement of the prostate gland in the form of a histological disorder due to the proliferation of prostate cells. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are 70 million degenerative cases, and BPH is included in that, while in Indonesia there are 9.2 million cases of BPH, with the most occurring in men over 60 years old. There are several risk factors that can increase the likelihood of BPH, such as age, race, family history of BPH, hypertension, obesity, and sexual activity. Men who have had a vasectomy are also at high risk of developing BPH. In addition, a history of diabetes mellitus and smoking habits are also risk factors that can increase the likelihood of BPH. The content of nicotine and conitin in cigarettes can increase the activity of androgen-damaging enzymes, resulting in a decrease in testosterone levels.

Abstract

Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are often bothersome and hinder the quality of life for eldery. The incidence of BPH in Indonesia, namely at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital from 1994-2013, found 3,804 cases with an average age of patients 66.61 years. Adrenoceptor antagonists (α‑blockers, ABs) and 5-Alpha reductase Inhibitors (5-ARIs) are recommended first-line treatment for LUTS due to BPH. Although effective, these medications may have adverse effects, including dizziness, hypotension, and sexual dysfunction. Phosphodiesterase 5 Inhibitors (PDE5-Is) have been used globally as first-line drugs for erectile dysfunction. The first study in 2002 reported that PDE5‑Is could improve urinary tract symptom scores in patients w

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases associated with increased blood glucose. Chronic hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus contributes to the emergence of various complications in the form of damage, dysfunction and failure of various organs, one of which is the kidney. Kidney is a vital organ that plays a very important role in maintaining the stability of the environment in the body. The kidneys regulate the balance of body fluids, electrolytes and acid base by filtering blood through the kidneys, selective reabsorption of water, and excreting excess as urine and removing metabolic waste (urea, creatinine and uric acid) and foreign chemicals. Diabetic nephropathy is a degenerative kidney vascular disorder, associated with disturbances of carbohydrate metabolism or sugar intolerance (diabetes mellitus). This study aims to see the relationship between diabetes mellitus and the incidence of chronic kidney failure. Several journals have found a positive relationship between diabetes mellitus and the incidence of chronic kidney failure.
