Abstract The potential for disasters in Indonesia is still quite high, especially in disaster potential areas, on December 4, 2021, the Mount Semeru APG (Hot Clouds Fall) disaster occurred which resulted in 48 deaths of people and damage to several areas around Mount Semeru which required 10,158 people to evacuate. The Mount Semeru APG disaster has received treatment from the government and social institutions. One of them is Laznas LMI which also assigns volunteers to go to disaster areas. In addition to searching for missing victims, volunteers also interact directly with survivors, researchers are interested in examining how the communication carried out by volunteers during post-disaster conditions with volunteers' therapeutic communication to the survivors, Therapeutic communication has 4 stages, namely the pre-interaction stage, the orientation stage, the work stage and the termination stage. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, the research informants are the Head of the Central LMI Emergency Response Section and representatives of the LMI Volunteers in Blitar City who also participated in the disaster location. Abstract

This study aims to explore the transformation of Islamic preaching and Muslim entrepreneurship practices conducted by persons with disabilities through social media, grounded in Islamic spiritual values inspired by the thoughts of KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur). Using a qualitative case study approach, this research focuses on three social media accounts owned by disabled Muslim entrepreneurs: @rumahaspirasitunanetra, @thisablebeautycare, and @ekosugeng. The findings reveal that social media not only serves as a communication tool but also functions as a digital preaching space and spiritual marketplace, reinforcing the role of people with disabilities as active agents of change. The participants successfully integrated Islamic values such as amanah (trustworthiness), rahmah (compassion), and maslahah (public good) into their entrepreneurial and preaching activities. These findings highlight the urgency of inclusive preaching approaches and the necessity to expand the Islamic Value-Based Entrepreneurship (IVBE) model to encompass marginalized experiences. The study concludes that spirituality-based preaching and business can be powerful strategies for social emancipation and for shaping an inclusive Islamic discourse.

Abstract

Digital literacy across the urban–rural divide in Indonesia plays a significant role in the adoption/implementation of AI. This study attempts to investigate the principal factors behind AI introduction within a descriptive qualitative study and collaborative case study design. The current study is qualitative, using semi-structured interviews with 180 informants conducted in 36 communities from eight key islands during the period of October to December 2024. The findings indicate that rural areas lag behind urban areas in terms of infrastructure, digital literacy readiness and perceived technological complexity, whereas urban areas benefit from the vibrant ecosystems, institutional support as well as accumulation of training programs. Any vision for digital transformation should be joined up and include increased infrastructure investment, investment in community based digital literacy programs as well as development of AI applications that are locally relevant and culturally sensitive. These results elaborate on the Diffusion of Innovations Theory as articulated by Rogers, showing how infrastructural and sociocultural contexts interact in the adoption of technology, while also offering new perspectives for policy and practice in contrasting low and middle-income contexts.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the public speaking skills of rural youth through a service learning and participatory action research (PAR) approach. Conducted in Suko Village, East Java, the training involved 20 members of Karang Taruna “Laksa Muda.” The program focused on self-confidence, speech structure, and non-verbal communication. Using experiential learning methods, participants engaged in practice-based sessions, peer feedback, and reflective discussions. Theoretical frameworks included public speaking rhetoric (Ethos–Pathos–Logos), Kolb’s experiential learning cycle, and Freire’s empowerment pedagogy. Results indicated significant improvement in participants’ performance and engagement. The program fostered not only communication skills but also youth leadership and community participation. Supported by BPSDMP Kominfo Surabaya, the model shows strong potential for replication in other villages. This study affirms the role of higher education in empowering youth through context-sensitive training.
