Abstract

The low writing ability of students is influenced by various factors including the lack of use of learning media and learning models. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there is a significant achievement of using hypnoteaching integrated with extensive reading on students' writing skills at SMA N 6 Bengkulu Tengah. The type of research used is quasi-experiment. The population of this study were tenth grade students at SMA N 6 Bengkulu Tengah. This study used purposive sampling technique in determining two classes as samples, class X1 consisting of 30 students as the control class and class X2 consisting of 30 students as the experimental class consisting of 30 students as the experimental class. Writing test data were taken from control and experimental class students collected by two tests, namely pre-test and post-test. First, the researcher gave a pre-test to both classes. After that, the researcher gave a post-test to both classes. Pre-test and pot-test scores are collected from the essay test. The findings of this research indicate that teaching students' writing skills using a hypnoteaching strategy integrated with extensive reading is very effective. The average pre-test score for the experimental class was 34,00 and the post-test was 68,83. This is proven by the calculated t value (0,231) and t table (2,069) which is greater than the table at the 5% significance level. Next, the hypothesis test obtained a 2-tailed sig (p) of 0.00 while alpha (a) was 0.05 (0.00<0.05). This means that Ho is rejected and H is accepted. So, the use of an hypnoteaching integrated extensive reading to improve students' writing skills has a significant effect.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between the teachers’ personal competence and students’ learning motivation. This research employs a quantitative, correlational method. The study's population comprised all students from Madrasah Aliyah Pancasila Bengkulu, with a total sample size of 66 students from 3 classes. The research and calculation results indicate that the personal competence of the teachers at MA Pancasila Bengkulu meets the "good" criteria, with a frequency of 57 and a percentage of 86.36%. At MA Pancasila Bengkulu, students' learning motivation falls into the "medium" category, with a frequency of 36 and a percentage of 54.55%. Researchers used a two-variable correlation test to find a link between teachers' personal competence and students' motivation to learn. The Pearson Correlation coefficient was (+) 0.354, which is 35.4%, and the coefficient of determination (r²) was (0.354) ²=0.125, which is 12.5%. This means that the teachers’ personal competence variable has an effect of 12.5% on students' learning motivation.

Abstract

This research investigates learning motivation factors on the English vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at Hidayatul Qomariyah Islamic Boarding School. Vocabulary mastery is critical for effective communication, particularly in learning English as a foreign language. This study explores how both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations influence students’ success in acquiring vocabulary. A qualitative approach was employed, using surveys and interviews to gather data from students and teachers. The findings reveal that intrinsic motivations, such as personal interest in mastering the language, significantly enhance students' engagement and persistence in learning. Extrinsic factors, including teacher support and the classroom environment, also play a vital role in encouraging students to improve their vocabulary. However, challenges such as limited access to digital resources and difficulties with pronunciation and grammar hinder their learning process. The study also found that interactive methods like singing and repetition improve vocabulary retention and motivation. Students who engage with audiovisual media and popular culture, such as English songs, show higher motivation to learn English. This research suggests that schools should provide better access to digital learning tools and create more engaging, interactive teaching methods to boost motivation and vocabulary acquisition. Additionally, a stronger focus on motivation-based teaching strategies may lead to better vocabulary outcomes for students, particularly in rural or less technologically equipped environments. Keywords: learning motivation, vocabulary mastery, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation

Abstract

Writing skills are one of the basic competencies that are important for students, but there are often difficulties that become challenges for students. This research aims to determine whether there are significant differences in students' writing skills using the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) in class VII students at SMPN 14 Bengkulu City. PWIM, as stated by Calhoun (1999), is designed to teach reading, writing and language system skills in an integrated manner by utilizing pictures and words as teaching aids. This research method uses a quasi-experimental approach to assess the significance of using PWIM in improving students' writing skills. This research involved two groups, namely an experimental class taught using PWIM and a control class taught using conventional methods, and was carried out in the 2023/2024 academic year. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant average difference between the two groups, where students taught with PWIM show better improvement in writing skills than students taught with conventional methods. Based on these results, it can be concluded that PWIM is effective in improving the writing skills of class VII students at SMPN 14 Bengkulu City.
