Abstract

COVID-19 is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). First identifiedin Wuhan, China, in December 2019, and declared an International Public Health Emergency in January2020, the WHO declared a pandemic in March 2020. Hypertension, a disease that has long been a problemfor most people in Indonesia and around the world . COVID-19 can affect blood pressure control for peoplewith hypertension due to obstruction of the RAAS system. This research was conducted to find out whateffect COVID-19 has on blood pressure control in people with hypertension. In the condition of COVID-19patients with comorbid hypertension, SARS-CoV-2 which attacks ACE2 can eliminate the role of ACE2 inthe RAAS system. Inhibition of ACE2 can also cause buildup of angiotensin II which has a vasoconstrictiveeffect. This results in the absence of homeostasis in the blood pressure control system and makes bloodpressure conditions that continue to be at high pressure.

Abstract

Background: Administration of high-dose paracetamol had been indicated to induce several molecular and biochemical cascades of hepatotoxicity. The abundant amount of ROS formation following the uptake of the medication exceeds the physiologic antioxidant capacity of the body, leading to the occurrence of oxidative stress. Wild strawberries (Fragaria vesca L)extractsare thought to have hepatoprotective activities regarding the high activity of antioxidants contained.Method: Aspartate Transaminase (AST) activity was used as a marker of hepatotoxicity. In the 10 days trial, randomized samples of 24 male Wistar rats (Rattus Norvegicus) were used and divided into three groups: 1 group without treatment, 1 group receiving oral paracetamol 1750 mg/kg in CMC-Na suspension, and 1 group receiving oral paracetamol 1750 mg/kg following administration of strawberry extract 400 mg/kg. The strawberry extract was administered from day 1 to 10, while high-dose paracetamol was administered on day 9. AST activity analysis was done on day 10 of the trial. Significant results were found showing an increased AST activity in the paracetamol-only group (p=0.001) and a decreased AST activity in the group receiving strawberry extract (p=0.001). Conclusion: Fragaria vesca L extracts were proven in vivo to have hepatoprotective activities against paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity

Abstract

Anemia is still a high prevalence disease in Indonesia, caused by a lack of iron in the body. The components from brown seaweed such as cobalamin (vitamin B12), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), chlorophyll and iron (Fe) can increase red blood cells in the body. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of brown seaweed (Sargassum duplicatum) which can increase hematocrit levels in the blood of white male wistar strain rat (Rattus norvegicus) suffered from anemia in induction NaNO2. This research uses an experimental laboratory method with a post test only control group design. The samples were 30 male rats divided into 3 treatment groups, the negative control group (K0) without treatment, the positive control (K1) be treated anemia given NaNO2 for 18 days without Sargassum duplicatum extract and treatment group (K2) treated with anemia given NaNO2 for 18 days without Sargassum duplicatum extract at a dose of 2,45gr / kgBB. On the 40th day, a blood sample was taken, then measured the hematocrit level. The results showed that the mean number of blood hematocrit levels in K2 was higher than K1, it showed a significant difference descriptively. Based on the KruskalWallis test, a value of 0.260 was obtained that p > 0,05 showed that there were no statistically significant differences between groups of experimental animals. From the results of this research, the conclusion is the administration of brown seaweed extract (Sargassum duplicatum) descriptively increased, but not statistically significant.

Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia reaches 25,2 percent, it indicates that anemia is a medical condition in society that needs attention. Brown seaweed (Sargassum duplicatum) is a group of algae that contains minerals such as iron and vitamin B12. So that the content in Sargassum duplicatum can be used for anemia therapy that serves as the main forming hemoglobin. Objective: The purpose of this experimental research was to determine the administration of Sargassum duplicatum affects the increase in blood haemoglobin levels of rats that are anemia induced NaNO2..Methods: This research used the Post-test only control group design, the samples were 30 male rats divided into 3 treatment groups (K0, K1, and K2). The process of treating anemia in rats using sodium nitrite (NaNO2) at a dose of 125 mg / KgBB. K0 group is a group that is not treated. K1 group is a group that was given NaNO2 for 18 days without dieting Sargassum duplicatum. The K2 group was the group that was given NaNO2 for 18 days and received the Sargassum duplicatum diet at a dose of 2.45 g/kgBB for 14 days.Result: From this research it can be seen that K0 has an average hemoglobin level of 12,71 g/dL, K1 has an average hemoglobin level of 11.96 g / dL, and K2 has an average hemoglobin level of 12,99 g/dL which shows that descriptively there is a difference between groups K1 and K2. Based on the KruskalWallis statistical test, a value of 0,290 was obtained so that p > 0.05 showed that H0 was accepted, which means there was no difference in the administration of Sargassum duplicatum in increasing blood hemoglobin levels in anemic rats. Conclusion: From the results of this research, the conclusion in descriptively there was an increase in the blood hemoglobin level of white rats in the group receiving Sargassum duplicatum extract therapy but it was not statistically significant.

Abstract

Background : The COVID-19 pandemic induced a challenge of the importance of diagnostic evaluation. This includes understanding signs and symptoms in diagnosing the probability of infection. The amount of clinical symptoms from the confirmed COVID-19 patient is the same as the other respiratory diseases, which makes it hard to diagnose at the beginning. The gold standard examination of COVID-19 is RT-PCR test and additional examination that usually done is radiology examination. The most used radiology examination is chest X-ray to identify any anomaly in patient's lungs and to evaluate the disease progress. The purpose of this research is to understand the existence of correlation between chest X-ray imaging and severity degree of COVID-19 patients that are treated in RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya from November 2020-January 2021. Methods : The type of research is analytical observational study with case control design using 44 samples obtained from medical history of inpatients and outpatients that are confirmed positive of COVID-19 treated in RSPAL dr. Ramelan Surabaya in span of November 2020-January 2021. Bivariate analysis was performed using Spearman's test Results : From the result of bivariate analysis using Spearman's test appears significance score (p) = 0.0001 which <0.05 that shows the significant existence of connection between chest X-ray image and severity degree of COVID-19 patients. It is also found that the coefficient correlation score (r ) = 0.985 shows a positive correlation with strong correlation power. Conclusion : There is a connection between chest X-ray images and severity degree of COVID-19 patients. The more severe the clinical symptoms of a patient, the worse that patient's chest X-ray result will be. Keywords : COVID-19, Chest x-ray imaging, Severity degree.

Abstract

The prevalence of infectious diseases in Indonesia is still relatively high, for example Infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Indonesia has many traditional plants that can be used for herbal treatments containing tannins, flavonoids, and essential oils which have relatively high antibacterial activity by forming inhibitory zones in the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria which are the cause of skin infections food poisoning to systemic infections. Thereforekencur can be used as an alternative medicine. This study was intented to determine the effect of giving kencur extract (Kaempferia galanga L.) In inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study was experimental laboratory used plate diffusion method of “Postest Ony Control Group Design” design. There were 7 groups, 5 treatment groups and 2 control groups. The concentration of treatment group was 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25% while for positive control using amoxicillin 25μg and aquadest as negative control. The bacterial used were Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that kencur extract (Kaempferia galanga L.) had an antibacterial effect in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. With a value of p = 0.001 or p <α. kencur extract (Kaempferia galanga L.) has an antibacterial effect in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
