Abstract

Critical thinking is an active process because it involves question and answer activities. This skill is important for students to have as one of the 21st Century skills that can support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). The objectives of this world program need to be instilled from an early age so that students have an attitude of concern for environmental sustainability. The importance of understanding the SDGs can be taught in schools. The problem raised focuses on the unavailability of handouts that integrate local potential in science material and explore student activities in critical thinking as one of the skills of the 21st century. The role of this teaching material can be to train critical thinking skills in learning to achieve the SDGs goal of protecting terrestrial ecosystems. The aim of the research is to produce a handout on the local potential of the SDGs and determine whether there is an increase in students' critical thinking after using the handout. The method used by Research and Development (RD) refers to 4D. Critical thinking data measured from description tests were obtained before and after the treatment designed to include students' abilities in providing explanations, building skills, designing strategies and tactics, explaining further and concluding. The results of the research show an increase in critical thinking skills of 0.60 as indicated by the N-gain and positive student responses after using the development product. These results are in line with the research objective of integrating SDGS-oriented local potential into teaching materials. The involvement of a teacher in designing teaching materials containing local SDGs-oriented potential is very necessary as one of the efforts that can be carried out in the education sector. Conclusion the science learning process on plant structure material and its use in technology was effective after using the SDGs-based local potential handout.

Abstract

Purpose: The community service aims to enhance Natural Science teachers’ knowledge related to learning assessment and their skills in processing data using Rasch analysis. Methodology/approach: The community service runs as hybrid training (offline and online) for a teacher community called a Natural Science MGMP, which included 34 Junior High School Natural Science Teachers in the Sumenep Regency. This activity was carried out as training and mentoring for two days, where participants learned Rasch analysis based on theory and practice. They were then required to fill in the pretest and post-test to obtain data regarding participants’ knowledge and skills related to this training. Results: The results of the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using the paired t-test for the knowledge aspect. There was a significant increase after being given Rasch analysis material, since the standard deviation of the post-test was higher than that of the pre-test. On the other hand, the skill aspect also showed a significant increase after Rasch analysis, with a higher standard deviation after treatment. Furthermore, the N-Gain Score was used to determine the extent to which participants’ knowledge and skills differed after training in the Rasch analysis. Limitations: This community service has several limitations including technical problems and participants. Some participants found it difficult to install and operate Ministep/Winstep because such software is not compatible with their device or new software. Moreover, several teachers did not fill in the pre-test and post-test; hence, it was difficult to assess their progress after the training. Contribution: This program can contribute to improving Natural Science teachers’ knowledge and skills in learning assessment, especially for teachers in Sumenep Regency.

Abstract

Abstract

Stunting in children, pregnancy complications, and osteoporosis in the elderly remain prevalent in Indonesia, often linked to protein deficiency. This issue is particularly common among lower socio-economic groups, where limited purchasing power reduces protein consumption. The availability of protein sources is further threatened by climate change and declining environmental quality. Conventional protein sources also contribute to environmental degradation. Hence, there is a pressing need for sustainable, affordable, and environmentally friendly protein alternatives. The FAO has recognized edible insects as a viable future protein source. This study focuses on evaluating the nutritional content and food safety of three types of edible insects: mealworms, superworms, and Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL). The research uses a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: species (S) and larval condition (K). Six treatments are tested, each with three replications. Nutritional parameters assessed include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins, while food safety is evaluated through microbial contamination and heavy metal analysis. Edible insects, such as mealworms, superworms, and BSFL, offer a varied nutritional profile, including protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamin E, and antioxidants, making them a promising alternative protein source.
