Abstract

In this work, the imbalances in band gap energy between p-window layer and intrinsic layer (p/i interface) in p-i-n type solar cells to suppress charge recombination adopting with the addition of buffer layer, at p/i interface, namely solar cell structures without buffer (Cell A) and with buffer (Cell B). Using well-practiced AFORS-HET software, performances of Cell A and Cell B structures are evaluated and compared to experimental data. A good agreement between AFORS-HET modelling and experimental data was obtained for Cell A (error = 1.02%) and Cell B (error = 0.07%), respectively. The effects of dopant concentrations of the p-type and n-type were examined with respect to cell B for better performance by analysing the energy band diagram, the electric field distribution, the trapped hole density, the light J-V characteristics, and the external quantum efficiency. The simulated results of an optimised Cell B showed that the highest efficiency of 8.81% (VOC = 1042 mV, JSC = 10.08 mA/cm2, FF = 83.85%) has been obtained for the optimum dopant values of NA = 1.0 x 1019 cm-3 and ND = 1.0 x 1019 cm-3, respectively. A comparison between experimental data and simulation results for Cell B showed that the conversion efficiency can be enhanced from 5.61% to 8.81%, using the optimized values

Abstract

Using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), a mixed gas of silane (SiH4) and methane (CH4) was diluted with hydrogen (H2) to produce thin films of silicon nanocrystals embedded in a silicon carbide (SiC) matrix. This method prevents the co-deposition of SiH and SiC from high-temperature annealing procedures. This study experimentally explores the improvement of the electronic structure by adjusting two processing parameters according to classical nucleation theory (ratio of SiH4 to CH4 and working gas pressure). The deposited films were examined using ellipsometry spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and photoluminescence to determine grain size, crystal volume fraction, topography, and bond configurations. The results show that increasing the working gas pressure can increase the density of SiC, while increasing the ratio of SiH4 to CH4 can only produce larger grain sizes. This is consistent with how SiC works and grows. Without using a high-temperature annealing procedure, this technique can improve the electrical structure of SiC contained in the SiC matrix formed by PECVD.

Abstract

In this project, a tool that can explain phenomena involving the photoelectric effect at laboratory scales is being developed. The purpose of this tool is to help users understand that the photoelectric effect, which causes electrons to move from a source of a negative voltage to a source of positive voltage, is not affected by light intensity but rather by a light source's frequency and wavelength. A photodiode is employed in the creation of this device as a light sensor, and when exposed to light, it moves electrons from the cathode to the anode, causing an electric current to flow. The voltage is delivered to the cathode, which is where the electrons leave, to calculate the stopping voltage. A graph showing the connection between the ADC value and the sensor output voltage is produced from the ongoing data gathering. Our results show that each color spectrum has a distinct voltage supplied to the photodiode leg (cathode). Additionally, the output voltage measured for each distinct wavelength was decreased the lower the photodiode's light intensity was.

Abstract

Effective learning can be achieved by utilizing practical teaching aids that can challenge students to understand the material. This needs to be done to increase students' lack of learning motivation, as it will hurt learning achievement. Each student has a variety of learning styles, such as visual, audio, and kinesthetic. Therefore, teachers should try to create innovation by developing teaching aids in the form of a Pascal pressure model that can be implemented in learning experiments. The purpose of making this demonstration equipment is so students can understand the concept of Pascal pressure more concretely and in-depth, compared to relying on pictures as a visual tool. Apart from that, this innovation can also increase student motivation so that learning becomes more real and not just imagination and so that student learning outcomes can increase. The research method involves identifying old materials that can be used, designing creative and educational teaching aids, as well as testing the effectiveness of teaching aids in supporting science learning. The research results show that using used materials in natural science teaching aids can reduce negative environmental impacts by reducing waste and consuming new resources. The teaching aids developed can also facilitate understanding of science concepts visually and interactively. The trial of this teaching aid showed a positive response from students toward a more interesting and sustainable learning method.

Abstract

Malus' law asserts that the square of the cosine of the angle formed between two polarizers is directly proportional to the intensity of light after passing through them. In this study, we demonstrate this law using a straightforward configuration. Our method of measuring the polarizer's rotational angle while keeping the other polarizer stationary is innovative. It involves manually attaching a multi-turn potentiometer to one of the polarizers. The Arduino board is connected to the potentiometer and light sensor that is used to detect the intensity of transmitted light, allowing for the measurement of light intensity as a function of rotational angle. Additionally, we think that the configuration as it is now can be helpful in physics laboratory classes. It can also be demonstrated by using it during lectures
