Abstract

This paper tries to provide a simple and communicative model of business English materials that can be applied in the classroom. In this regard, the language skill taught is speaking with the targeted micro-skills of business vocabulary and function-based language focus (grammar). A communicative approach is used in the development of the materials in order to facilitate the learners to use the language in various social contexts with interlocutors. Accordingly, the method of instruction is a role-play.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru-guru Sekolah Dasar di wilayah Majenang, Cilacap, dalam menciptakan media pembelajaran berbasis Artificial Intelligence (AI). Rendahnya literasi teknologi serta kurangnya pelatihan dalam pengembangan media ajar mendorong tim pengabdi untuk menyelenggarakan pelatihan praktis dan aplikatif. Kegiatan pelatihan yang berlangsung di SDN 01 Palugon ini melibatkan 24 peserta dari berbagai sekolah, dan mencakup pengenalan serta praktik penggunaan aplikasi AI seperti ChatGPT, Copilot, VoiceOver, LeiaPix, dan Capcut. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan antusiasme dan kemampuan peserta dalam membuat media ajar berbentuk video animasi. Selain itu, umpan balik melalui kuesioner menunjukkan efektivitas metode dan materi pelatihan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan serta keterampilan peserta. Dengan metode praktik langsung, pendampingan melalui grup WhatsApp, serta evaluasi pasca kegiatan, pelatihan ini memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam mendorong inovasi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi di sekolah dasar. Abstract

Needs analysis (NA) is a vital process in designing effective curriculum and instructional materials, particularly in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) settings. This study explores the implementation of NA in the context of ESP course design for Hotel Management students. The research applies a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing data from classroom-based documentation and lecturer-led curriculum planning. Findings reveal that incorporating NA allows for better alignment between learners' target needs, learning preferences, and instructional goals. Key tools such as questionnaires, interviews, placement tests, and focus group discussions were used to gather data from learners and stakeholders. The study highlights how NA supports learner-centred instruction, improves motivation, and leads to more contextually relevant teaching materials. The article concludes by emphasizing the role of NA as a foundational step in curriculum and material development, especially in professional and vocational English settings.

Abstract

This training program was designed to improve the competence of elementary school teachers in creating visual-based instructional media using the Canva application. Held for teachers in Majenang District, Cilacap Regency, the training combined theoretical lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on practice to ensure comprehensive understanding and skill acquisition. At the outset, a pre-test was conducted to assess the participants’ initial knowledge and digital design skills. The results showed an average score of 58.3, indicating limited experience with design tools and low literacy in visual media creation. Following the training, a significant improvement was observed. A total of 90% of the participants successfully produced at least two educational media products, such as posters, infographics, and activity cards. The post-test results revealed an average score of 86.7, demonstrating a substantial increase in understanding and practical ability. Additionally, the satisfaction survey showed that 92% of participants were very satisfied with the content, delivery method, and technical assistance provided during the sessions. This outcome highlights the effectiveness of the training in empowering teachers to utilize Canva for innovative and engaging learning materials. The participants are now better equipped to apply these skills in their classrooms, contributing to a more visually appealing and interactive learning environment.
