Abstract

Changes in land use, namely from cultivated land to closed land or settlements, make the water demand in the area increase, if the water that comes out is not balanced with the water that enters the ground, it will cause a decrease in the ground water level. Another problem that arises due to changes in land use is runoff, where runoff occurs due to rainfall exceeding the suction power or infiltration of the soil, so that over time the runoff becomes a puddle and can even cause flooding. One way to overcome these problems is to apply infiltration wells. This case study takes place in the Hang Tuah Cipta Residence Housing Area, Pekanbaru. From the results of field research and Hydrological data analysis revealed that the main existing drainage channel discharge with a discharge capacity of 0.923 m³/s is unable to accommodate the discharge that occurs at 1.19 m³/s. Segment or secondary drainage channels Q12 and Q13 are also unable to accommodate the discharge that occurs at 0.085 m³/s with a capacity of 0.06 m³/s. Based on the analysis results it is planned that the infiltration well with a radius of 0.5 m and a depth of 9 m which has a capacity of 0.0022 m³/s. After the planned discharge infiltration well comes out to be 0.88 m³/s, it means that the discharge does not exceed drainage capacity of 0.923m³/s.

Abstract

The availability of water from a water source needs to be known so that it can be used as needed. The main use of river water is as raw water whose management is carried out by a Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM), which is a Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD) which is engaged in drinking water services. The obstacle that is always experienced by PDAM users is that the service has not been maximized, both in quality and quantity. The purpose of this study was to determine the availability of water from the Siak watershed as a water source for PDAM Tirta Siak in order to meet the clean water needs of the people of Pekanbaru city. The stage of this research is to collect secondary data in the form of rainfall data and climatological data as well as a map of the Siak watershed. Data analysis was carried out by calculating 90% reliable discharge for raw water sources, calculating the clean water needs of the people of Pekanbaru city based on city categories for the population in 2021. The results of calculating the availability of the Siak watershed of 90% reliable flow were obtained at 12.65 m3/s. While the results of the calculation of the clean water needs of the people of Pekanbaru City for residents in 2021 are 1.73 m3/s. Compared to the production capacity of PDAM Tirta Siak which is only 0.08 m3/s, the amount of water available from the Siak Watershed is much larger than the current production capacity requirement of PDAM Tirta Siak.

Abstract

Duflow surface water hydrodynamic model aims to describe the behaviour of rivers in theirnatural conditions or state. As in all natural conditions inhomogenities and inconsistencies doprevail, thus proving difficult to integrate all sub systems making up a single system. Despitethat, Duflow within its limits generate results that can be applied in real life situations such asplanning and construction of engineering structures, decision-making, and environmentalconservation and wetlands management. The objective of this case study was to establish adesign flood recommendable for mitigation by using duflow surface hydrodynamic model.Various design flows are simulated against the different proposed structures hence, the optimalstructure is finally recommended when economical, social and environmental constraints areconsidered in the decision making process. The measure of building a green-storage is the bestand optimal structure for flood mitigation.

Abstract

Duflow surface water hydrodynamic model has been applied using a case study from Nyando catchment in the western part of Kenya in Africa to simulate various extreme flood behaviours and their retardation levels by using selected structural measures as flood mitigation techniques. The objective of this case study was to establish a design flood recommendable for mitigation, and to identify the most cost effective flood mitigation structure. Various design flows are simulated against the different proposed structures hence, the optimal structure can be recommended when economical, social and environmental constraints are considered in the decision making process. The proposed four flood mitigation structures flood plain extension, embankment (dykes), channel by-pass, and green-storage were simulated for 20-year recurrence interval flood to determine their individual responses in storing excess water. The result shows that building a green-storage is the best and optimal structure for flood mitigation.

Abstract

One of the efforts to overcome the clean water crisis in the archipelago, one of them is Merbau Island, is to make a simple technology that is used to accommodate excess water during the rainy season and next, the water can be utilized for various purposes when it has been needed. The technology is rainwater storage building (PAH). This community service activity was conducted by making a model of PAH building at one of the residents’ houses and conducting a counselling activity to residents in relation to both of calculation and planning of the PAH building, and also the importance of consuming clean water. The purposes of this community service are to give an understanding and increasing knowledge about the needed for rainwater harvesting technology so that daily clean water needs will be fulfilled by basic infrastructure of the ideal PAH system based on independent-communities. The volume of this rainwater reservoir is needed at 3 m3 (3,000 litres) from the roof area of 36 m2. This rainwater is used to meet the needs of drinking, cooking and washing of 15 litres/person/day. The number of residents in the house is 5 people. The results obtained from this activity are the construction of rainwater reservoirs with a volume of 1,000 litres with good and correct rainwater harvesting system equipment. Thus the lack of 2,000 litres of rainwater storage must be managed independently by the homeowner.

Abstract

The habit of littering is carried out in almost all circles of society, not only the poor, even those with higher education do it. Organic waste and plastic waste are the largest waste generated by households. Processing organic waste into compost and utilizing plastic waste into ecobricks are service activities that have been carried out at Putri Tujuh II Housing Estate, Pekanbaru. This service activity aims to provide understanding and application to residents in managing household waste, so it is hoped that there will be awareness of the importance of waste processing in reducing waste generation in Final Disposal Sites (TPA). The method used is socialization, field practice which is continuously accompanied by the implementing team until the end of the service period. The result of this activity is an increase in public knowledge about processing waste into compost and ecobricks that can be used at home, but there is a decrease in the level of awareness at the end of the activity. This is because residents are no longer assisted in carrying out waste processing activities, so it can be concluded that continuous team assistance is needed until there is a commercial container to accommodate the results of waste processing carried out by residents
