Abstract

Background: Optimal breast milk production meets infants’ nutritional needs, crucial in stunting prevention. Many postpartum mothers face insufficient milk production, which can affect infant weight gain and increase the risk of stunting. The innovation of combining oxytocin massage with Foxy Oil is expected to enhance breast milk volume, frequency of wet diapers, and infant weight gain—key indicators in stunting prevention. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with purposive sampling, involving 60 postpartum mothers: 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 26 for univariate and bivariate data. Data normality was tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and bivariate analysis with the Mann-Whitney test. Breastfeeding optimisation was assessed based on breast milk volume, number of wet diapers, and infant weight over one month in the working area of Tanjung Morawa Community Health Centre. The husband or a close family member performed an Oxytocin massage twice daily for 10–15 minutes. Results: Bivariate analysis after oxytocin massage showed significant effects on breast milk volume (p = 0.000), number of wet diapers (p = 0.000), and infant weight (p = 0.039). The analysis indicates that the combination of Foxy Oil and oxytocin massage positively affects breast milk production, frequency of wet diapers, and infant weight gain. Conclusion: Foxy Oil's innovation, combined with oxytocin massage, can be widely applied in midwifery practice to support successful exclusive breastfeeding and contribute to stunting prevention.

Abstract

Posyandu, as a form of community-based health efforts, plays a crucial role in improving maternal and child health. However, its implementation in the Mutiara Community Health Center (Puskesmas Mutiara) in Asahan Regency still faces various challenges, such as low cadre capacity, suboptimal service quality, and limited community participation. This community service activity aims to strengthen cadre capacity through Posyandu revitalization as an effort to improve the quality of basic health services. A total of 63 Posyandu cadres participated in the activities, which were implemented through counseling, education, and coaching using revised service standard guidelines. This program was implemented through four stages: preparation, implementation, analysis of results, and evaluation. Improvement in cadre knowledge was measured using pretests and posttests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the level of knowledge of cadres, as seen in the change in assessment categories from the majority being in the "poor" category during the pretest to "sufficient" and "good" in the posttest. This indicates that the education and coaching provided were effective in improving cadres' understanding and skills. Increasing cadre capacity is expected to improve the quality of Posyandu services, increase public trust, and support efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality in the Mutiara Community Health Center's work area. Cross-sector collaboration and ongoing mentoring are needed to maintain the sustainability of Posyandu revitalization.

Abstract

Kata kunci: ASI eksklusif; foxy oil; pijat oksitosin; pemberdayaan keluarga; stunting Abstract Low rates of exclusive breastfeeding are often triggered by maternal perceptions of insufficient milk supply, which poses a risk to infant growth and increases stunting rates. This community service program aims to implement the "Foxy Massage" innovation, a combination of oxytocin massage and the use of Foxy Oil (fennel-based oil/Foeniculum vulgare) to independently increase breast milk production. The program was conducted through intensive mentoring over one month for 30 postpartum mothers and their families in the Tanjung Morawa Health Center working area. The activities included education on lactation mechanisms, training in Foxy Oil production, and demonstrations of oxytocin massage techniques for husbands and families as primary support systems. The results showed a significant improvement in the families' skills to perform the intervention independently. Clinically, there was an increase in breast milk volume, followed by an ideal frequency of infant wet diapers (6-8 times per day) and a stable upward trend in infant weight gain. This innovation proved to be safe, economical, and effective in stimulating prolactin and oxytocin hormones. In conclusion, empowering families through the Foxy Massage technique serves as an applicable strategy to support exclusive breastfeeding success and accelerate the reduction of stunting at the community level. Keywords: exclusive breastfeeding; family empowerment; foxy oil; oxytocin massage; stunting.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding rate in Indonesia was 68%, which were also lower than the targeted national 80%. One such cause is unpreparedness of pregnant women for breastfeeding. In Batak culture, the Moumbasuri method during pregnancy month seven is regarded as a social, spiritual and psychosocial intervention to support pregnant women, but has not been adequately utilised to reinforce breastfeeding preparation. This type of local wisdom can be incorporated into digital media for better readiness toward exclusive breastfeeding among third trimester pregnant mothers. Objective: To develop and evaluate the Technology for Optimal Readiness (TUKKOT) ASI application, grounded in Mambosuri culture, as an educational tool to enhance readiness for exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: The used Research and Development (R&D) model was based on the structure of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE). It was composed by needs analysis, content design, validation with specialists and implementation (40 pregnant women on the third trimester) and evaluated using Wilcox test. Outcomes: The analysis showed that 57.5% of participants had low knowledge, while 47.5% demonstrated good readiness. The application featuring home, Mambosuri, readiness, and profile sections received an expert feasibility score of 88.9%. After a one month period, a user satisfaction level of 90.8% was achieved. Significant improvements were demonstrated through statistical analysis in knowledge (p-value<0.001), family support (p-value<0.005), and readiness for breastfeeding (p-value<0.001). Conclusion: An effective increase in knowledge, family support, and breastfeeding preparedness among women in the third trimester of pregnancy was achieved through the use of the Mambosuri based TUKKOT ASI application. Embedding local wisdom in digital media is one strategic method to support the success of Indonesia’s exclusive breastfeeding program.

Abstract

Background: Breast milk is the best life-giving fluid that is essential for babies up to 6 months of age because it has the most complete and ideal nutritional composition for the growth and development of babies, which can meet their nutritional needs during the first 6 months. However, only 39 percent of all babies in the world are exclusively breastfed. Breastfeeding is a natural process, but many mothers are still unable to breastfeed or stop breastfeeding early. Many reasons are cited by mothers who do not breastfeed their babies, including being busy with work, fear of gaining weight, and insufficient milk production (Damanik, 2020). A study proved that husband’s support was an important aspect of exclusive breastfeeding (DelCoreetal. 2018). Purpose: To determine correlation between husband’s support and exclusive breastfeeding mothers at Siti Hajar Clinic Medan Marelan. Methods: The type of research used was quantitative with a cross sectional approach. The study population consisted of 30 mothers who were breastfeeding their children aged 0-6 months at husband’s exclusive breastfeeding assistance center at Siti Hajar Clinic od Medan Marelan. Data analyisis using chi-square. Results: From a survey of 30 breastfeeding mothers, 83.3% of respondents were suppored by their husband’s and 16.7% were not supported by their husband’s. 100% of mothers brestfeed their babies exclusively. This, it means that the p-value = 0.000, p-value <0.05 between the husband’s support for exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: Based on the research, it can be seen that there was correlation between husband’s support for exclusive breastfeeding and the behavior of the husband’s to spport, encourage and support the practice of ecxlusive breastfeeding for mothers during breastfeeding.
