Abstract

This systematic literature review explores the role of social media in digital activism and its significance in mobilizing and raising awareness of social and political issues. By analyzing 26 relevant studies published between 2020 and 2024, this review highlights how social media platforms empower individuals and groups particularly youth to disseminate information, build collective awareness, and engage in public discourse. The findings indicate that digital activism has transformative potential in democratizing communication and amplifying marginalized voices. However, several challenges remain, such as the spread of misinformation, the hijacking of activism for conspiratorial agendas, and the difficulty in measuring the tangible impact of online actions on real-world social and policy change. The study also identifies the most frequently used theories (e.g., Social Movement Theory, Framing Theory, Connective Action), common research methods (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods), and thematic contexts such as racial justice, feminism, environmental activism, and misinformation. Most studies rely heavily on Twitter (X) as the primary platform, suggesting a need for cross-platform analysis in future research. This review concludes that while social media is an essential tool for digital activism, further research is required to develop effective communication strategies, assess long-term impacts, and explore activism in the Global South. Ultimately, this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on media and communication by emphasizing the complex, dynamic, and evolving nature of digital activism in shaping sustainable social change.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the phenomenon of syncretism in the Rambu Solo ceremony in Tana Toraja, focusing on the chronotope of communication in the syncretism process bound by the dimensions of space and time. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a communication ethnography design, which involves data collection through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD). The data obtained were analyzed using thematic and narrative analysis techniques to identify the main themes that emerged in the social and cultural interactions of the Toraja people. This approach allowsresearchers to explore in depth the meaning and process of symbol negotiation in the Rambu Solo ritual. The results of this study, Chronotope plays an important role as a concept that binds space and time in the Rambu Solo ceremony, a death ritual that becomes a dialogical arena combining various aspects of social and religious life. This shows a real manifestation of kinship ties that arebound in space and time with ancestors that are passed down from generation to generation, as well as religious ties to divine power, both of which encourage cultural and religious syncretism. The syncretism that occurs is dynamic and dialogical, not a meaningless unification, but rather a process of interaction that maintains cultural identity rooted in the local religion of aluk todolo in dialectic with religious teachings as the official discourse of the state. This study emphasizes the importance of a dialogical and interdisciplinary approach in understanding complex cultural phenomena, especially those involving the dimensions of space, time, and religiosity in the contextof indigenous communities. Abstract

The development of digital technology and social media has changed the way Generation Y and Z interact, work, and interpret their daily lives. Amidst the rapid flow of information, a phenomenon known as technostress has emerged, which is psychological pressure arising from the intensity and complexity of technology use. This study aims to analyze the effect of technostress arising from social media use on the productivity levels of Generation Y and Z in Indonesia. The method used is quantitative with 400 respondents analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) through SmartPLS 4.0. The research instrument was compiled based on technostress and productivity indicators with a 1–4 Likert scale. The results show that digital pressure is not always negative. On the contrary, in certain contexts, technostress can encourage individuals to adapt more quickly, filter information more selectively, and form effective work strategies. These findings reinforce the concept of techno-eustress, which is a form of positive stress that can trigger increased focus, motivation, and work performance. Thus, social media is not merely a source of distraction but can also be a trigger for productivity when managed wisely. This study contributes theoretically to expanding the understanding of social media-based technostress and emphasizes the importance of digital literacy and awareness of digital health. With the ability to manage digital pressure, individuals can transform stress into productive energy that supports performance in the modern era.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan perkembangan global studipengambilan keputusan berita melalui analisis bibliometrik terhadap 746 artikelterindeks Scopus periode tahun 2019-2024. Dengan menggunakan pendekatankuantitatif dan pemetaan ilmiah berbasis VOSviewer, penelitian ini menganalisisdinamika produksi pengetahuan yang mencakup tren publikasi, jaringan kolaborasipenulis, kontribusi institusi dan negara serta struktur tematik yang membentukdiskursus newsroom decision making. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan terjadipeningkatan yang signifikan pada publikasi dalam dua tahun terakhir, yangmengindikasikan tingginya perhatian ilmiah terhadap perubahan pola kerja redaksipada era digital. Dominasi kontribusi dari negara-negara dengan ekosistem risetyang mumpuni seperti Amerika Serikat dan India juga mengonfirmasi produksipengetahuan pada studi jurnalisme yang dipengaruhi oleh ekonomi politikakademik. Analisis jaringan kata kunci sebagaimana yang diidentifikasi dalampenelitian ini mengungkap bahwa diskursus pengambilan keputusan beritasebagian besar bergerak ke arah integrasi teknologi, terutama machine learning,big data, news recommendation system, dan deteksi misinformasi. Tetapi, padabeberapa area seperti etika jurnalistik, penilaian editorial, dan nilai profesionaljustru terlihat lemah dalam jejaring konseptual, yang menunjukkan adanya celahpenting dalam literatur. Temuan penelitian ini juga menegaskan bahwa meskipun teknologi membentuk praktik newsroom modern, tetapi proses pengambilankeputusan tetap merupakan aktivitas sosial yang melibatkan pertimbanganmanusia, nilai-nilai profesional serta konteks organisasi. Studi ini memberikankontribusi teoritis dengan menawarkan pemetaan komprehensif mengenai arahperkembangan studi newsroom decision making, serta mendorong agenda risetyang lebih seimbang antara faktor teknologi dan human agency. Studi inimerekomendasikan pengembangan kerangka teoritis baru yang mampumenggambarkan interaksi antara algoritma, praktik redaksi, dan nilai etis dalamekosistem media digital.
