Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out whether or not video blog can improve the speaking ability of the students of English Education Department of FTK UINAM in academic year 2017/2018.  The researcher applied pre-experimental method, with one group pretest and posttest design which employed speaking test to find out the students’ speaking performance in terms of accuracy. The sample consisted of 20 students used purposive sampling technique taken from the population of the second semester students of Sulawesi Flight. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was significant difference of students’ speaking performance before and after being trained through video blog. It is proved by result of statistical analysis of the level significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) =  N-1 = 20-1 = 19 which indicated that t-test value of final score I speaking ability (13.309) was greater than t-table (2.093). Therefore, video blog can improve speaking performance of the students.

Abstract

This research is aimed at developing English materials for students of the seventh grade especially in basic competencies 3.7 & 4.7 and 3.8 & 4.8 at MTs Madani Pao-pao based on 2013 curriculum supported by using inquiry learning model and using HOTS characteristic in indicators achieved. The research design used in this study was Research and Development (R&D). The development model used was ADDIE model. It consists of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The procedures included analyzing materials needed by spreading questionnaire to the students and analyzing the basic competencies used, designing a blueprint of materials which include indicators, HOTS characteristic and inquiry learning model, developing the English materials through ADDIE model. Types of data obtained in this study are quantitative and qualitative data. The instruments used in this research were the syllabus including basic competency, questionnaire, table of basic competency analysis, a blueprint of material design and validation checklist for expert. Therefore, the result indicated that based on experts’ judgment as well as product development result, the developed basic competency 3.7& 4.7 and basic competency 3.8 & 4.8 were applicable to be taught at the seventh grade students of Junior High School as topics in English for them.

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to develop English language materials for early young learners. This research was conducted at PAUD Terpadu Joy Kids Makassar. This research developed "Occupation" material with the sub-theme of "firefighter." The Research and Development model implemented in this study was ADDIE model in developing the material. The preliminary study results in this study show that English is not a compulsory subject but only an interlude. Therefore, researchers developed English language material following the applicable curriculum. The development of material in this study emphasized vocabulary recognition. Teachers and students can use the products that researchers would produce to carry out English learning activities.

Abstract

This research aimed at improving the students' reading comprehension of the first grade at Wahdah Islamiyah Makassar junior high school, which contains 25 students used a learning model called the interactive compensatory model. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle consists of steps to planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data had collected by the form of quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data obtained by analyzing the observation checklist result, while quantitative data obtained through score processing used a particular formula. This research’s findings proved that applied the instructional model called the interactive compensatory model successfully improved students' learning abilities, especially in reading comprehension. The test results in the first cycle, was 1,660 or 66,4% and increased to 2,120 or 84,8%. In the first cycle, 14 students (56%) out of 25 students got the point under the minimum standard score (KKM), while those who reached the minimum standard (KKM) score were only 44%. However, after being given treatment in the second cycle, it was seen that 100% of the students exceed the minimum standard (KKM) score. The observation checklist results showed that students’ participation in the first Cycle increased in the second cycle. They became more active and dared to expressed their opinion.

Abstract

This research aims to design an English syllabus for Diniyah Program at Al-Qur'an Babussalam Islamic Boarding School Selayar. The research design used in this research was Research and Development (R&D) by Richey and Klein. Types of data obtained in this research were qualitative and quantitative. The researchers used a questionnaire and interview guidance as the instrument to obtain the data. This research showed that 1) speaking skill is the priority for the students: In linguistic needs, students' learning abilities are fair in vocabulary and pronunciation but less in grammar. While vocabulary is the priority, then pronunciation, and the last is grammar. There are twelve real-life topics for learning vocabulary, and pronunciation and basic grammar become integral parts of each lesson. In learning needs, vocabulary learning preferences are memorizing, communicating, listening, and repeating. While learning by imitating, from the dictionary and the recording are the pronunciation learning preferences. In terms of learning style, talking to friends in English, talking in pairs, and role play are the three highest. 2) The design syllabus is based on students' needs. 3) The syllabus validation by the experts' judgment clarified that the syllabus had been designed can be used with a bit of revision.

Abstract

This research is aimed at students' perception in using YouTube video in Learning speaking at UIN Alauddin Makassar. In the modern era, there are a lot of online learning platforms. New technologies developed to make learning process easier. One of the examples of online learning platforms is using YouTube video. This research started with designing blue print questionnaire for students and validation checklist for experts. This research employed a quantitative research and design is survey,where the data obtained from the questionnaires and interview. The questionnaires by the researcher with using theories from some experts. There are Theory motivation by (Kreisen, 2009, p. 3); Theory of Attitude by (Latchanna, and Dagnew 2009); and theory of Interest by (Stempleski, 2002). The subject of this research was 85 students of English Education Department academic year 2019 at UIN Alauddin Makassar.The data was analyzed by using the frequencies of Likert Scale and mean score. The mean score of students’ perception on using YouTube video in Learning speaking was 4.4. Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher proposed to provided recommendation especially for the Head of English Education Department to apply using YouTube video in Learning speaking in English Education Department.

Abstract

This study aims at finding out the problems and the factors causing the problems faced by the students of English Education Department in carrying out online presentations. The subject of this research were 6 students of English Education Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar who enrolled in Speaking for Academic Purpose course. The samples were selected purposively. This study uses qualitative descriptive and the data were taken from observations through the Google Meet application and interview. The findings showed that the students had linguistic and non-linguistic problems. The linguistic problems faced are lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar and poor pronunciation; while, the non-linguistic problems are fear of making mistakes, feelings of shame, lack of self-confidence, network problems and disturbances that occur around students' homes.
