Abstract

This article includes similar readings on educational assessment. Specifically, it includes relevant reading papers on the essence of the assessment, its intent, and the various evaluation models and their advocates. It also provides similar readings on a separate assessment model, the CIPP (Context Input Process Product) model. Justifying the reasoning for the use of the CIPP model, this involves readings on the context, emphasis, strengths and shortcomings of the CIPP and its proponent. It also provides literature on the approaches used to gather soft data, such as questionnaires, interviews and the focus group debate

Abstract

This study investigated students' perceptions of speaking activities in XI Grade of SMA Negeri 19 Maluku Barat Daya. The data was obtained by a survey conducted from September 23rd to October 25th, 2021. The number of respondents who participated in this study were 33 students who provided information regarding their perception toward English speaking activities they conducted in the classroom. They responded to 15 statements from the questionnaire, which required their perception of speaking activities and types of speaking activities in English class. The study results revealed that the activities carried out in class XI were dominated by group discussions and teacher question and answer (Q &A) sessions. In addition, most respondents consider speaking activity an essential aspect that builds interaction with other people. In general, the respondents asserted that talking in English is fun. From the result of the current study, it is also suggested that there are many aspects that must be taught to students to master speaking skills.

Abstract

This Study investigates the students’ reading habits at the English Education Study Program of PSDKU Maluku Barat Daya which was done by conducting a survey from 05 October until 04 November 2021. The total number of respondents who participated in this research was 69 respondents by administering questionnaires with 20 questions. The findings showed that the majority of all respondents like reading but at the same time they just read for college purposes. Thus, reading is not a favourite activity they do without concrete reasons. However, the students have pretty good reading habits.

Abstract

This research aimed to learn how to implement the “PQRST Strategy” in English class successfully and to find out the responses of the tenth-grade students of SMA NEG 13 MBD toward implementing the PQRST strategy in English class. This study was action research and covered two cycles. Generally, both cycles consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In collecting the data, this study used quantitative and qualitative methods. The qualitative is related to the observation checklist and questionnaire. The qualitative data were acquired from the pre-test and post-test. The result of the research showed the PQRST strategy has an important role in increasing students’ reading comprehension in the tenth grade of SMA NEG 13 MBD. It can be said that this strategy was easier and helped students in the teaching-learning process of the English class activity. It could be proved by raising the students’ reading comprehension test scores. The average score on the pre-test was 16,87; on the post-test, it was 63,67, which became 77,91. The PQRST strategy in reading (narrative text) could increase students’ reading comprehension skills. Based on the results of the discussion above, it can be concluded that applying the PQRST strategy to the tenth-grade students could be improved. On the other hand, this strategy was effective and an alternative way for the students, even the local teacher, to add their strategy to the teaching-learning process because it interested students in learning and remembering what they learned. It could also be seen from the result after cycle I, which was 43,75%, and then cycle II, where 84,37% of students achieved KKM

Abstract

Think Pair And Share (TPS) is an effective technique in teaching reading in-class activity. The purpose of this research is to (1)How can the Think-Pair-Share technique improve students' reading skills in the first grade of SMA NEG 11 WETANG MBD? (2) What are students' responses about the Think-Pair-Share technique in reading skills at the first grade of SMA NEG 11 WETANG MBD? This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data for this research was the students' reading skills. The researcher used a test, Questioner and Observation, to collect the data. This research was done with an SMA Negeri 11 Wetang MBD English teacher. Based on the result and the discussion, it concluded that applying the Think-Pair-Share technique improved students' reading skills in the first grade of SMA NEG 11 WETANG MBD. The students were actively and enthusiastically involved in the teaching-learning process. It made it easier for the students to understand the material, so it could improve the student's reading comprehension ability. This could be seen from the result obtained of action on cycle I 60, where 00% of students reached KKM. Then, performance in cycle II increased to 90.00% of students who reached KKM.
