Abstract

This paper aims to demonstrate the existence of the phenomenon of commodification of religion in the management of tahfidz al-Qur'an educational institutions and the impacts it has. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method and uses field data which is located in Bone Regency. Data was collected, processed and analyzed using the sociology of religion approach. The findings of this study show that the phenomenon of commodification of religion in the management of tahfidz al-Qur'an educational institutions occurs in line with the desire of institutional managers to see tahfidz institutions as more advanced and more developed. From an administrative point of view, managers of tahfidz institutions tend to increase the financing related to the management of tahfidz education, even though from one side the community or stakeholders have not fully accepted that learning the Koran must incur high costs. Learning and teaching the Koran, according to him, does not have to be exchanged for expensive financing. Besides commodification found at the administrative level, symptoms of religious commodification are also found at the distribution level of hafidz in society. The community's need for hafidz al-Qur'an has been quite significant so far, especially for the benefit of events or events at various scales, for example Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an on local and national scales. The impact of the emergence of commodification in the management of tahfidz al-Qur'an indirectly weakens the sacredness of religion, especially the Koran and erodes social values, especially the attitude of helping each other. The use value of the Qur'an as a human moral guide shifts from theological to economic paradigm.

Abstract

This article discusses an interesting phenomenon in Gampong Lhok Pawoh, where the community continues to maintain and preserve the tradition of yasinan in the Rabu Abeh ritual despite the shifting or even extinction of many religious traditions in the modern era. This research employed qualitative methods (field research) and adopted Spradley's ethnography approach and the perspective of the living Qur'an. This study aims to describe how the Qur'an comes alive in the yasinan tradition of the Rabu Abeh ritual, which is still upheld by the community of Gampong Lhok Pawoh, as well as the significance of this tradition in their daily lives. The findings reveal that the yasinan tradition in the Rabu Abeh ritual is a tangible manifestation of the living Qur'an among the people of Gampong Lhok Pawoh in Aceh Barat Daya. This tradition is performed every year on the last Wednesday of Safar, as a plea for safety and protection from potential disasters on the day of Rabu Abeh. The community perceives the connection between verse 19 of Surah Al-Qamar/54, which depicts an unfortunate day, and the Rabu Abeh day; hence, they collectively recite Surah Yasin as a prayer and safeguard against potential calamities. The tradition holds strong spiritual and social meanings within the community, serving as an effort to seek salvation from Allah SWT, preserving cultural heritage, fostering social bonds, and cultivating excellent and respectful personalities. Moreover, the tradition reminds the community of the importance of maintaining harmonious relationships with nature while strengthening solidarity and preserving customs and culture

Abstract

This article aims to examine media coverage of COVID-19 and the resistance of the Indonesian people. This research is a legal sociology study that discusses the public's response to government policies regarding the Covid-19 vaccine with an Islamic legal approach. The data is analyzed using critical discourse analysis. This study concludes that community resistance to vaccines has a relationship with online media content. News content of victims who died after the vaccine, information about vaccines that impact the human body to become sick in the long term, and information about raw materials or contents of the Covid-19 vaccine that are not halal, indirectly have implications for the community resistance. This refusal was mainly due to information about victims who had been vaccinated experienced vaccine failures, especially from social media such as YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook, which are sometimes difficult to justify. According to Islamic law, people should be careful about content and news regarding Covid-19 because it may not be accurate. Therefore, the government needs to provide solutions in various ways. First, the government oversees all social media in conveying information so that all news related to the COVID-19 vaccine needs to be more careful and wisely not to worry the public. Second, the government needs to re-strengthen media regulations or news coverage that doesn’t seem to work optimally. Moreover, the government's vaccine policy aims to prevent the danger of the virus, which guarantees the safety of people's lives, and it is part of maqâshid al-syarī'ah. Likewise, the government has involved the MUI, which has authority in the field of religious fatwas, so that the certainty that the vaccine is halal can be accounted for in Islamic law.

Abstract

Sexual harassment is a violation of Islamic law and is inconsistent with the values of all religions and moral norms. The rise of sexual violence in educational institutions is concerning. This study aims to analyze and evaluate the demoralization that occurs in Indonesian educational institutions after the emergence of sexual harassment committed by caregivers or staff. Using a descriptive qualitative method analyzed through the tafsīr al-aḥkām approach, data was collected through interviews and literature studies. The findings indicate that sexual harassment in educational institutions is often done through coercion, using dogmatic methods or luring victims. This behavior undermines the maqāshid of the Qur'an, teachings of all religions, and moral norms. Teachers and caregivers are meant to be dignified and honorable people. Sexual harassment is a form of sexual violence that harms victims both physically and mentally. Interpretation scholars emphasize that every individual has the right to dignity and honor, which Islamic shari'a regulates. Therefore, Islamic law prohibits immoral acts, including sexual harassment, which is considered faḥsyā’ or fāḥisyah (abominable), as it can injure human glory and dignity. The demoralization that occurs will affect the degradation of the charisma of educational institutions and weaken the sacred relationship between caregivers and students.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the interpretation of the verses about the hijab, especially QS. al-Ahzab [33]: 59 and QS. an-Nūr [24]: 31 by comparing two interpretations, namely Musṭafa al-Marāgî in Tafsir al-Marāg and Hamka in Tafsir al-Azhar. The approach used is a qualitative approach through literature study by applying a descriptive analytical explanation system with a comparative interpretation method (muqāran). The results of this study indicate that there are differences in interpretation between Musṭafa al-Marāgî and Hamka regarding QS. al-Ahzab [33]: 59 and QS. an-Nūr [24]: 31, although both agree that the aurat is a part of the body that must be covered, however, they differ in giving the meaning of the veil, as well as in extending the veil. This research recommends to academics to develop it further. It is also expected to be additional information on the interpretations of scholars who are not contemporary, not as traditional and cultural, so that they are able to see a much more colorful variety of interpretations.
