Abstract

Abstract

Homonym and polysemy features can influence some errors in translation from a source language to another target language, for example, from Indonesian to English. A lemma or a morphology factor can cause the configuration of Indonesian homonym features. For example, the word beruang can mean an animal beruang (bear) and can mean a verb alternation ber+uang (has/have money). The Indonesian polysemy feature can also impact an error in the translation process because it can have a literal meaning and a symbolic meaning. For example, the terms bunga melati (jasmine flower) and bunga hati (lover), where bunga does not only mean flower. Therefore, the development machine translation (MT) method needs to capture homonym and polysemy features in the form of a word or a phrase. This research proposes homonym and polysemy approaches with morphology extraction in weighting terms for Indonesian to English MT. First, this research uses morphology extraction to detect sentences that contain prefixes, lemma, and suffixes. Then, the word similarity measurement functions to extract homonym and polysemy in the form of uni-gram and bi-gram using bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) embedding, named entity recognition (NER), synonym-based term expansion, and semantic similarity. This research uses neural machine translation for the translation process.

Abstract

The different types of implicit reviews should be well understood so that the developed extraction technique can solve all problems in implicit reviews and produce precise terms of aspects and opinions. We propose an aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) method with natural language understanding for implicit reviews based on sentence and word structure. We built a text extraction method using a machine learning algorithm rule with a deep understanding of different types of sentences and words. Furthermore, the aspect category of each review is determined by measuring the word similarity between the aspect terms contained in each review and aspect keywords extracted from Wikipedia. Bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) embedding and semantic similarity are used to measure the word similarity value. Moreover, the proposed ABSA method uses BERT, a hybrid lexicon, and manual weighting of opinion terms. The purpose of the hybrid lexicon and the manual weighting of opinion terms is to update the existing lexicon and solve the problem of weighting words and phrases of opinion terms. The evaluation results were very good, with average F1-scores of 93.84% for aspect categorization and 92.42% for ABSA.

Abstract

Teachers as mentors and facilitators of students have limited teaching hours so they cannot act as widely as possible, especially in teaching writing skills. On the other hand, students or college graduates must have good writing skills. However, most students feel less motivated to be ready to learn independently in order to improve their writing skills. The lack of student learning motivation to improve these skills is the focus of the problem in this community service agenda. This community service aims to increase student learning motivation through the socialization of journal writing to improve students' learning readiness and writing skills. The objects used were STIESIA Surabaya Semester 6 Class SMX students because most students still did not understand the concept of journal writing. The socialization event was carried out in two sessions, formally and informally, with the aim of arousing learning motivation according to students' desires and learning patterns. Session 1 was carried out formally with material provided around journal writing. Meanwhile, Session 2 was carried out informally using the one-on-one consultation method so that students could better understand their shortcomings in writing journals. The results obtained based on the guidance sheets and journal drafts collected by students showed that the socialization of journal writing could increase students' learning motivation to be more ready to learn and more skilled in writing

Abstract

Yosowilangun Village, located in Gresik Regency, is currently classified as an independent village, indicating the prosperity of its residents. However, there are still challenges in identifying and optimizing the village’s potential, particularly in recognizing its strengths and addressing weaknesses. Without a systematic approach to these issues, there is a risk of a decline in the village development index, potentially resulting in a downgrade of its status. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework offers a strategic pathway for achieving balanced and sustainable growth, with its core pillars emphasizing humanity, the environment, prosperity, peace, and partnerships. In collaboration with the officials of Yosowilangun Village, Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Indonesia (STIESIA) Surabaya implemented a pilot project aimed at mapping and analyzing the village's potential. This project identified underutilized land, which has typically been used for cultural and artistic activities, as a valuable resource for local economic empowerment. By transforming this land into a venue for Small, and Medium Enterprise (SME) events, such as craft and culinary exhibitions, the village can create sustainable economic opportunities. The project also revealed that village officials allocate a significant portion of their financial resources to community empowerment programs. Their openness and willingness to collaborate facilitated constructive discussions, although their understanding of the SDGs framework remains limited. To bridge this gap, further data collection and analysis are required, focusing on key factors affecting land utilization based on SDGs principles. Moving forward, mentoring sessions aimed at formulating relevant policy recommendations and fostering stronger collaboration between the project team and village officials will be prioritized. These steps are essential to ensuring the success of the initiative and maintaining Yosowilangun's alignment with SDGs, while enhancing its development index.
