Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is essential for human infants' physical and mental development. However, breastfeeding problems can hamper this low quantity of breast milk. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of Marmet breast massage for increasing the amount of breast milk in post-partum mothers. This is an experimental study design. The subjects of 100 breastfeeding mothers were randomly assigned to two groups; a control group (which received standard breast care massage) and the treatment group (who received the Marmet technique breast massage). Although there were no significant differences in the rate of change over time between the Marmet technique group and the control group (p-value>0.05), there was an increase in breastfeeding fluency scores in the Marmet technique group. The Marmet breast massage technique increased milk production in term infants at a rate comparable to usual breast massage. Therefore, this technique could be used to improve exclusive breastfeeding rates, including for mothers with nipple abnormalities.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Nipple pain during breastfeeding significantly impacts the emotional well-being, daily activities, and sleep patterns of mothers, increasing the risk of early breastfeeding cessation and postpartum depression. Previous studies have reported high prevalence rates of nipple pain among breastfeeding mothers in various countries. This study aims to identify the factors contributing to nipple pain, utilizing a cross-sectional design and Shomers's statistical test. Nipple pain severity was assessed using visual analog scores, with nipple lesions, latch-on techniques, nipple shape, and maternal parity as independent variables. The results demonstrate strong positive associations between nipple pain and nipple lesions (P value 0.000, r = 0.866), latch-on techniques (P value 0.000, r = 0.629), and nipple shape (P value 0.001, r = 0.341). However, there is no significant correlation (P value 0.132) between nipple pain and maternal parity (r = -0.182). To promote successful breastfeeding, healthcare facilities should prioritize the provision of education on proper breastfeeding techniques, pain prevention and management strategies, and solutions to address the unique challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers. Abstract

Pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum are a series of events that significantly change a mother's life and are often accompanied by various physical and emotional challenges and problems. This review of this study was to analyze the trends and effectiveness of hypnotherapy interventions in pregnancy and childbirth nationally and internationally through electronic databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies. Article quality assessment uses Critical Appraisal Tools for Systematic review. The results of the literature review show that hypnotherapy interventions provide promising results in reducing labor pain, relieving anxiety, reducing symptoms of nausea and vomiting, increasing maternal satisfaction and improving the overall labor experience. Hypnotherapy can be used as one of the complementary interventions in the field of obstetrics and maternity care. Further research needs to focus on the establishment of standard protocols, experiments with random sampling methods on larger subjects and exploring the long-term effects and cost-effectiveness of hypnotherapy interventions in various obstetric treatments.

Abstract

Infant massage is a touch stimulation that has many benefits for the health and growth of infants, including increased weight gain, sleep quality, and emotional bonding between mother and baby. Based on a preliminary study in Bunder Village, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, it was found that most mothers do not have adequate knowledge and skills regarding correct and safe infant massage techniques. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide practical knowledge and skills to mothers in Bunder Village about infant massage. The implementation method includes interactive counseling, demonstrations, and direct practice of infant massage guided by expert speakers. This activity was carried out on [Implementation Date, e.g.: August 18, 2024] at [Implementation Location, e.g.: Bunder Village Community Hall] involving [Number of Participants, e.g.: 35] mothers. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in mothers' understanding and skills regarding infant massage. Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health issue due to its long-term effects on child development, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This study aims to explore the impact of stunting on multiple developmental domains, including gross motor skills, fine motor skills, speech and language, socialization, and overall child development, using the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) as a developmental assessment tool. We hypothesized that children with stunting would exhibit significantly lower developmental scores across all domains compared to non-stunted children, even after controlling for age and number of siblings. A comparative cross-sectional design was employed, and data were analyzed using independent t-tests, Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA), and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). MANCOVA revealed significant effects of both stunting and age on most developmental domains, with stunting having a powerful impact on fine motor skills (F=6.424, p=0.018, η²=0.211), speech and language skills (F=11.924, p=0.002, η²=0.332), and overall KPSP scores (F=46.874, p<0.001, η²=0.661). ANCOVA confirmed the unique effect of stunting after adjusting for age. These findings underscore the critical need for early nutritional interventions, as stunting not only affects physical growth but also hampers essential developmental milestones. Addressing stunting could significantly improve long-term developmental outcomes and reduce health disparities among children in affected populations.
