Abstract

Di tengah masyarakat Indonesia kontemporer, standar kecantikan masih cenderung memihak pada kulit terang, memperkuat hierarki estetika yang berakar pada praktik colorism. Penelitian ini menyoroti bagaimana TikTok mulai menggeser narasi tersebut melalui representasi perempuan berkulit sawo matang. Meskipun warna kulit ini mencerminkan mayoritas populasi tropis Indonesia, ia masih kerap terpinggirkan dalam konstruksi kecantikan arus utama. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan menggunakan teori stratifikasi sosial Max Weber, studi ini mengeksplorasi peran TikTok sebagai ruang digital yang memungkinkan perlawanan simbolik terhadap dominasi warna kulit tertentu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan sawo matang memanfaatkan TikTok untuk membangun narasi tandingan dan mengekspresikan penerimaan diri, terutama melalui tagar seperti #day1merusakstandarkecantikanindonesia. Media sosial berfungsi sebagai alat kultural untuk mendekonstruksi bias estetika dan memperluas wacana publik mengenai identitas dan keberagaman kecantikan. In contemporary Indonesian society, beauty standards continue to privilege light skin, reinforcing longstanding hierarchies rooted in colorism. This study investigates how TikTok is reshaping those norms by spotlighting the experiences of medium-brown-skinned (sawo matang) women. Although their skin tone reflects the majority of Indonesia’s population, it remains underrepresented or undervalued in mainstream aesthetics. Through a qualitative approach and guided by Max Weber’s theory of social stratification, this research explores TikTok’s role in contesting color-based social hierarchies. The findings indicate that women with sawo matang skin tone utilize TikTok not only to express self-acceptance but also to construct counter-narratives that challenge dominant beauty ideals. Hashtags such as #day1merusakstandarkecantikanindonesia serve as digital tools for disrupting aesthetic bias. Ultimately, the study highlights how digital platforms provide space for symbolic resistance and broaden public discourse around beauty, identity, and diversity.

Abstract

Advances in information technology today make financial transactions easier, faster, and varied. The use of electronic-based payments will create a phenomenon called a cashless society. The formation of a cashless society that is full of conveniences and advantages can lead to consumptive behavior in society, especially in the net generation in the upper middle class because of the availability of facilities and infrastructure in urban areas such as the city of Surabaya. The focus of this research is twofold, namely how the consumptive behavior of the upper middle class net generation women who make cashless transactions in the city of Surabaya. and how can cashless transaction behavior change the consumptive lifestyle of women, especially the upper middle class net generation in the city of Surabaya. The method used in this study is a qualitative research using the theory of consumption society from Jean Baudrilard who sees the consumption process in modern society not only looking for use value but also on the value of the symbols in the goods or services. This study conducted in- depth interviews using the snowball technique to 14 informants, 9 people as subject informants, and 5 people as non-subject informants. Interviews were conducted using interview guidelines and resulted in the finding that several factors that became the background of changes in the types of payment transactions were the desire to always look up to date, the convenience and practicality of cashless payments, and the many benefits obtained during non-cash payments. Meanwhile, there are two categories of cashless behavior in the upper-middle class Net Generation women in Surabaya, namely the upper- middle class net generation who transact in full cashless and the second category is the upper- middle-class net generation who transact cashless according to profit. With the convenience and practicality, the Net Generation women in the middle-upper class Surabaya City easily behave more consumptively than using cash payments. They consider that cashless payments are a symbol of a modern lifestyle. Keywords: Cashless, Consumerism, Net Generation, Middle and High Class Society

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji fenomena stratifikasi sosial di kalangan pemain game Mobile Legends yang ada di Warkop Telo, Desa Gununggangsir Pasuruan. Metode penelitian kualitatif dan teori stratifikasi sosial Marx Weber penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana penggunaan skin dan kemampuan bermain terhadap struktur hierarki sosial dalam komunitas pemain. Data didapatkan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi yang memungkinkan peneliti untuk mempelajari interksi sosial serta dinamika yang terjadi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemain tidak hanya berlomba - lomba untuk meningkatkan level permainan, tetapi juga untuk memperoleh pengakuan status di dalam komuitas. Keterampilan dan kemampuan finansial untuk membeli skin menjadi salah satu indikator utama dalam stratifikasi sosial yang dapat menyebabkan perasaan alineasi utama dalam stratifikasi sosial bagi pemain yang tidak mampu. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan adanya tekanan sosial untuk meraih prestise nantinya dapat menciptakan interaksi yang bersifat lebih kompetitif daripada bekerjasama.
